2010/11 Snow conditions Snowy Range

Frisco sweet deal !!

How you been , Hope alot of riders get your post and head out this season . When your out let me know we need to plan a ride , show me where to go.

Great report especially the pics thanks guys. Been duck hunting and deer hunting so its starting to feel like the season is upon us. Another month of this and I will really be getting the itch. Anyone from the Omaha, Lincoln, or surrounding area that wants to get together for a meet and greet let me know, it would be great to have a list of names and numbers to reach out to share travel expences or just to fill a group to ride with. Anyway if anyone wants to we could start another thread and move this forward.

Start another thread. We have a good group of guys from Wahoo and were always looking for some new people to ride with

First trip to the Snowies

Heading to the Snowies in January, I've been looking at google Earth and topo maps trying to get a "feel" for the area. If you guys could post up picks of certain landmarks with their name, that will help me also. I have seen pics of "seven fools" hill, and have figured out where it is on google earth. Are there certain areas we should avoid? I have read that the French creek area is not a place for newbies.

Thanks in advance guys.

Skiwiz need all the help he can get directionally:)

Yeah I've heard French Creek can be a little tricky.

In on a get together. The Omaha snowmobile Club (which desparately needs more mtn riders) meets the first Wed of every month (Oct - April) at Don Carmelos in Elkhorn from 7-8:00.

Yah that was a friend of mine that was not familiar with the area.
And i think there was another two guys that spent the night down near french creek and tried to walk out the next morning. One dude collapsed from exhaustion and the other kept going on. Eventually Cody from the snowy range tours found em and even went back and recovered there sleds. There used to be a thread on here about it.
Firecat guy thinks its funny, but its a serious situation.

French creek can be a good area to ride in, but if you go to far down to the bottom you may not get back out.
I ride the snowies alot and familiar with the area. If any of you guys want to go out and ride some hidden stashes, i would be willing to show a few of you. And im always looking for new sledding buddies.

your right its not funny if someone gets stuck out all night!!!BUT maybe charlie just maybe I know the two guys who spent the night and also know the story of their adventure!!!!:hippie:

What time in January are you heading to the Snowies? What side are you staying on? What is your riding ability? Me and a couple of my friends will be out there in January.

Thanks for the pics guys cant wait to be back out. cant talk the wife into moving.....Keep em comin

I like riding down in French creek. Many guys dont like going down there but realy theres only one spot that can get a guy in trouble. Thats going down off the water fall and then the next 100 yards after that. If any one wants me to take them down into French creek I will be happy to show them around.
I took a 1996 polaris ultra all the way down in there last year. I have some cool video of it climbing out of the creek just south of the water fall.
Heres some pics from last year if you want to check them out.

I'm pretty sure you can go anywhere on snow that hard big shooter. Try it in early Jan when there is 8' of fresh snow with no base then you can brag about owning Frech Creek.

Thats alot of fresh snow, you should be proud of your accomplishment. Talk to me when you drop in to the creek and lose sight of your sled Skippy :llama:

This summer we hiked French Creek all the way from Tipple trailhead down to the FS road that comes off of the road between Albany and Ryan Park. Past where Tog & Newmy set up shop(looks as bad in the summer) through 7 fools and all the way down to the bottom trailhead, it's about a 6 mile hike. To be honest I was scoping for ways to ride out the bottom, tell ya what there are some flat a$$ NASTY areas the farther down you go. Skiwhiz says he can get me through,I don't know, guess we'll see.

BTW ya'll need to work on your snow dance, we missed the one yesterday and when I flew over the mtn last week 130 was pretty much bare all the way. S'posed to snow tonight through tomorrow, get your dancing shoes on.
