Glad it was at the end of the day and near the a HWY when my 12 POO 800 decided too lock up. Sled would have been there until spring if we were in a ravine when It stopped! HA. Only 650 miles.
-Power Addiction Head, Silencer and clutching- Stock in my eyes

Happy it is under warranty but not happy if Polaris is going to put the same Sh_T in!

Definitely going to go with RKT Big Bore this summer

2012 Pro Locked up

The bone stock 12 pro's I have tuned have had A/F ratios of 15.5 to 16.7 from about 5700 RPM to 6300 RPM, far leaner than the 14.7 they should be at in that RPM range. They were about 13.1 at 8000 RPM, which showed very little piston wash. The stock head design lets Polaris get away with that in order to make the EPA happy. Additional compression and a less forgiving head design (yes, makes more power) can cause problems like yours, especially if the eth plug is set to non eth and you happen to get some eth fuel. If your silencer is flowing more air than the stocker, it only makes things worse.

It's no longer under warranty if it has a head and a silencer on it.

Not only that but I heard Polaris is getting pickier with warranty claims. The dealer I use said they've been having to take more photos and a Polaris rep. comes out at times to check the warranty claim.

Hopefully you have a good dealer and you can get it warrantied!

in my eyes if you put it to stock them mums the word. and should be covered..

my opinon is that the sled manufactures today are making so much power and have strick emmisions that they are sacraficing longevity.the dont add evnough oil in to the fuel mix and they run em to lean..

if only someone would have a fuel map that was a good price that would replace the stock one so we all could run these stock/ semi modded for years and years

just my 2 cents

forgot to say i too had my motor go at 700 miles crank bearing went then slapped my piston around till it broke a piece of cylinder off and then a huge chunk of piston ring.. finally all this decided they wanted to place in the crank for a while..

now i put extra oil in every tank i am not screwing around with turning up my oiler.. i have a little more piece of mind knowing i am doing the mixxing

Easy. Put stock parts back on before taking it to the dealer. Takes all of an hour and it's covered.

Really.....and you feel that is being honest? A company tells you we will warranty our product under certain conditions that you are fully aware of, then modify it to your liking, aware you are voiding those conditions, and then feel if you make it appear that it was not modified so you can benefit from the warranty program, and this is okay? And some wonder why Polaris is sending reps and taking pictures. And some wonder why the sleds including a warranty cost so much? Just saying

I agree with what you're saying, but we all know it wouldn't be an issue with one of the other manufacturer motors. I think they start out on the ragged edge due to some piston clearance issues, and lean fueling conditions, etc. I don't like it either, but in the old days this kind of stuff didn't happen on as regular basis as they do now. I would probably do the "return to stock" thing too with that few of miles. :sorry:

I won't get into the honesty end of this conversation. That's between you and your conscience. However, what I did not see mentioned was any talk about modifications made to the oil consumption. Were you running the stock setting or did you increase it?

--Not all manufactures, just Polaris -- add to that poor design features of motor. Pro 800 does not make "so much more power", rather "so much less power".

I hear you, and would agree with you in older times. But say this to the Dragon owners after their stock engine failed for the 3rd time one week out of warranty.

How is that for fair?

Haha you kinda sound like an after school special. I say if you can pull one over on a manufacturer to get warranty do it. Manufacturers lie to us all the time and I'm sure they sleep at night.

These engines are going down with out modding them they are junk. A head and a can should not hurt them a lot of guys are changing out the pistons adding heads ,pipes and they run like they should .
Put it back to stock and get it fixed and sleep good at night .

Yes it will be covered :)

No I did not adjust the oil but had put a little in the tank.

Wish POO would get this issue resolved.....I know Im not the only one!

On a semi direct injection engine like the pol 800, how much help is the oil in the fuel that you are adding really helping:face-icon-small-con The fuel is injected into the transfer port, from there it travels into the combustion chamber and then burned. Adding oil to the fuel will lean out the fuel/air mixture. Just a thought.

I would be willing to bet you got the order of events wrong. I bet it started with your piston slapping around first, then.. "it broke a piece of cylinder off and then a huge chunk of piston ring.. finally all this decided they wanted to place in the crank for a while.." First thing you want to do to a Polaris is put a descend piston in that fits and is not rattling around! Doesn't matter how much you turn your oiler up, it not going to keep the piston/cyclinder skirt from breaking off when the piston has .009" clearance when its suppose to be .004"-.005" I too, am one of the lucky ones to have a hole through my case at 600 miles!

Man, all these new engine failure threads are really pushing me to do the drop in before the season ends......

Call it what you want, I already had 1 engine replaced under warranty...I don't want to do it again, with out warranty.
Hell, I'd even feel bad selling this pos Polaris engine to someone else.
I know Polaris doesn't need to have any morales about it, but I sure as hell wouldn't sell such a pocrap to anyone, let alone MASSES.

Stick to chassis stuff Polaris that you can do, let someone else build you an engine and electronics.
I don't care if a proper engine and associated electronics adds 10-20 pounds either.
Do it right already, you obviously have a horrible track record in the engine dept.
