08 m1000 or 08 m8

Can't decide what to buy guys. Let me know your oprinions.

I'm riding an 05 m7 now, I like to Climb, Boondock, Carve, and Sidehill...Lemme know what you think.

Thanks,
mtnclimber

You buying new or used?
Supposedly, the 09 M8 stocker was outclimbing the 08 M1k stocker. The 09 was a proto, but I don't think anything was changed that would make it worse.

Beware of the 08 M8, in it's stock form it was a real pos that would get spanked by your M7. I am only reffering to deep snow and highmarking. I ran into a couple last year and felt really bad for the owners because in the deep snow they would not climb, it was shocking how bad they were. I hear that they are good sleds with mods but I did not get to witness any.

Edit: I am not 100% positive they were actually 08's but the guys riding said they were new sleds last year so I was assuming they were 08's.

Thats funny,From what i seen the 08 m8 was a great sled good all around ridding and would out climb the m7 rather easy in the deep and was normally ahead of the other new sleds in its class. Three of my buddys had the 1000 and they spent alot of time in the shop. They all blew up and had wiring issues.Two of those guys went out and bought another sled to ride,because of down time .One was a m8 other was a apex. Im sure there is guys with the 1000 that had 0 problems." maybe we got a bad batch" If i had to chose i think i would get the m8. If your looking for a used sled two out of the three guys i know are selling there 1000. One has a fresh 1200 kit and other has a new motor wiring harness and is mint.:beer;

From what I've seen the m1000's are very reliable. We have about eight
1000's in our group with no serious problems. A few minor things like leaking seals on the dd, a few guys burning up belts, a couple of electrical updates, but in general the M1000 is a very tough sled. Do a little clutching, maybe a y - pipe and the 1000 is a tough sled to beat. The m8 is good also, it just lacks the grunt that the 1000 has. Well worth the extra weight penalty IMHO.

m8

If you like boondocking and are coming off the m7 I think the m8 would be a good choice. The 1000 definitly feels heavier in the nose than the 8 and if you liked the "light" feel of 7 you'll like the 8 and you can easily drop a good bit of weight off any m sled. I went from a 7 to an 8 and the tourque difference was BIG. The choice isn't right or wrong ,both are great, just don't get to hung up on the hp difference. I found with a few key mods, the m8 is a blast. my .02

Which key mods would those be?? I'm still torn between the 08 m8, 08 m1000, and 07 m1000.( I can pick up an 07 m1k for the same price as the 08 m8). Let me know what you guys think. I got the sleds located...I just don't know which one to pull the trigger on. Thanks again,
Ethan

Your weight, you could probley go 153" track.

I have yet to see a great 1000, I think I would go 800 with all the new changes should be a good sled.

I went from a m7 to a m8 to a m1000. I love the m1000 and would not go back to m8. If you hear that m1000 does not run i have seen alot of stock sleds from dealers that were not setup right. The 08 M1000 is a great sled but with a little clutching, intake, and exhaust it runs even better. The weight between the m8 and 1000 is not alot i can throw either one on its side really easy. We have all 4 brands that ride with our group and for power the m1000 is the torquemonster.

I think I would hold out for an 09. A lot of improvements, including the electronic reverse, new track and lighter weight. I have not heard good things about the older M8s, so I am hesitant to buy one.

I'm in the market for a new M8 or Dragon 8. Tough decision.

I came off an 06 M7 which I loved, but could use some more power.

FYI, if you do want an 08 M8, there are left over 08s for $7700-7800 on ebay.

I really liked my 162 M7. I would go 162 again, but not sure if would go 155 or 163 on the Dragon.

I like the handling of the M-chassis better, but like the extra power the Polaris has.

Snowtech has dyno tuning the 800 Dragon this month. 154 hp is what it made stock.

M8 is supposively 145ish?

dynotech just did a big session. stock hp was 145.7 average. they were getting more but that meant mods. personally i would be pissed if i ordered a 154 claimed hp sled and its only 145. fraud in my eyes.

ya but the d8 only has 145hp. remember the claims of 154 from polaris. i wonder how good that sled actually is. probably not to great.

i would take a m8 over a 1000 but thats personal preference.

You should go and look at the new snowtech. Took it to work but i think the #'s were around 153-154 STOCK on the dyno.

I have yet to see a m8 make much over 140 hp.

You can really tell the difference when you ride these 2 sleds. The d8 simply put, pulls alot harder!
