08/09 800 recall...

hone

They must be waiting for a cylinder hone. You just scuff the cylinders with a 280 -320 grit stone to give it some light crosshatch. Pistons are stock size.

Just dropped mine off at the dealer for the update, and I opted to get the flatlander silencer ($125) for my D8 RMK. The dealer was unable to answer if it is the SLP aftermarket can that I will be recieving, or the big ole suitcase style. From what he said, SLP and Polaris make the stock suitcase style..

Does anyone know what I will be getting?

So do all dealers have to purchase this ($600) hone from polaris or can they half-a$$ it and still tell the customers it's fixed correctly????

......Some dealers aren't as customer oriented as others.

An owner on another forum indicated that the updated silencer he got WASN'T an SLP aftermarket one, but one typical of what Polaris has used on other sleds. Someone else claimed the part number for the replacement silencer came up as something used for the 700 Dragon (which looks completely different from the original 800 silencer), but I can't confirm that personally.

Mine is at dealers shop now waiting.....they evidently recieved one kit in the original shipment and they had already installed that on one of their own sleds. Mine is next in line when more kits arrive. Was told today they do not show them on back order from Polaris so they think they are waiting to ship a bunch at one time for whatever reason. So I will wait. That is why I decided to take it in early instead of waiting......want it ready for when the snow flies.

Crossing my fingers that the issue has been resolved

Got my 3rd time rebuilt sled back from my dealer on Monday. New cylinders as well, cause mine were too scored to repair. Still waiting on the fuel filter, on back order from Polaris until Oct 9. Never did see a letter from Poo, just the copy that came with the service b that my dealer provided. Hope my sled stays running this year, as I lost 3 months plus of riding last season with two blown engines. All we need now is snow! And lots of it!!!

Correct.

The "replacement silencer" is the 2007 DRAGON silencer, which BTW is the 2010 D-8 silencer, interesting, huh??

Interesting... So now, I am thinking I should just tell my dealer to not order the $125 '07 Dragon silencer and go buy a aftermarket SLP.

The SLP silencer is availble thru June 2010 for $125 from your dealer and is recommended for the update... also does not void the warranty.

Just wondering if everyone has got their letter from polaris already. I havent got one. maybe i should just take it in, too bad i live in portland and my sled is in spokane right now:confused:

Was just at my dealer today and he is saying that the SLP is about $350 CDN and the POlaris version, the typical suitcase, is $125 CDN. He also said that this is not the can from the 700. SO many conflicting bits of info here. Having said that, what is wrong aside from sound and weight with running the suitcase? Nothing imho. The only thing you get for that extra $225 is audible bling! Which is cool but is it worth it?

the dealer is suppose to but who knows if they all will, i would ask what hone they are going to use cause the polaris hone is a ammco hone for the nik cylinders.

dealers

AKCOOP I dont trust most of the dealers. i am sure there are some good ones with good mechanics but i think most hire cheap labour and hope for the best.

Not sure how "interesting" it is. A silencer is just that - made to make the sled quieter and create a suitable amount of backpressure so the motor will run correctly. It isn't unusual at all for Polaris to use the same silencer over several models and at times several model years, even though the pipes change. If Polaris already had something that would work in their "parts bin", why not use it. The "new" silencer is smaller and lighter than the "stock" 800 one, so it's an improvement in more ways than one.

That said, I'll have my sled in for update in a week and I've got an '07 D7 silencer in the shop, so I'll be able to compare to see if it is the same, has the same part number, etc. It's also possible that the "update" silencer isn't actually what was used on the D7, but rather the new "service replacement" for the D7.
