I hear ya on being the local, Veedy! It must have been an amazing thing to pioneer those mountains. You truly live in God's country. Re the Monster, I said it was unknown by
most people
I am sure there were people who had witnessed its glory (perhaps you or your father) and potential to be ascended. Yes, there is lots of videos of the early climbs up the Monster. I even know who named the chute
. I believe Thunderstruck 2 has some of the ascents in it. So does TS3, TS4 and TS5. I am sure it was spring snow conditions for most of the pulls but that was what we had when we we found it. So we did it. And tried it. The stock Rev climb is in one of the Extreme Team movies, cannot recall which.
There is truly tons of pulls like that down here. There is another "Turtle Mountain" down here somewhere where there are literally chutes everywhere. Huge, small, crazy, easy, skinny, etc. Utah also has some of the biggest pulls I've ever seen. Wes Little has done one over 3000 feet (The Monster is a bit over 1200 feet of vert if I remember correctly) of vertical before only 5 miles from his house. Farmington is his back yard, literally. We park at their house, in their driveway, and ride 3500 feet to the top. . . Cool stuff. Cooke City has some crazy stuff that to this day have still never been filmed. So does Idaho and Wyoming. 509 Tom posts pics of the Troy, Montana area that are amazing also and have never been pulled. If you'd like to come down I can show you around, anytime.
BTW Veedy, you have hundreds more "Monster" chutes in your backyard, but I am sure you know that. Turtle Mountain has over 25 major chute pulls within the first 2 miles of dropping over the saddle. . . And yes, most have been pulled
, but a few have not.............
We should do a Yamafest day on Turtle next year!! That would be fun!!!!
