Yamafest Pictures!!!

Well now where to begin...... What a week of awsome shreds, high fives, double cheers, and double knuckles!!! And way too many Pink drinks!!!!

Yammafest was something I can say was one of the greatest experiances I have ever done... Watching you boys ride and I mean ride! No pointin and shootin.. and how you make it look so easy is beyond me.. After riding Lairds monster aka: "Peetster" for a few days I swear at times those things have a mind of their own so it's no walk in the park. You boyz amaze me how you can read the snow and every bump, crack, and inch (centimeter for you canadians) as your flyin at HWY speed is truley an art (insert not worthy smiley guy here). And no one can have a true appreciation for the chit you guys climb till your standin at the top looking down at your insane lines!!!!:) All the while being just a great group of classy stand up guys!!!! :beer;

Capt. Ron Thanks for being my wingman on Saturday and the nature hike to the gash.. I'm officially in shape for packing pipe this summer now. Thanks for the tour around turtle, and to you and Jane for the awsome supper on Sunday night... Jane's Garlic toast is the best ever!!!! :D

Veedy man what a ride on Monday.... Following you and Lairdo boonshmockin it up through the lakes was the best ride of the year for me, possibly one of my best rides ever!!! :D

Scoots.... Thanks for the non stop giggles at the top of Monster... Render I'll keep your pink necklace safe and sound till next year, and I guess you can take Laird as your date to the BBQ this weekend, If you really wanna win him over put on some CMT for a roll in the sheets.....I just don't wanna hear about it. :p

Yammaha Canada - What a Great event, the food and presentation was stellar!!! Thanks!!

Your all very welcome for the tasty Buddy Light Limes.... It was no easy task hiding the second half rack from Laird for the whole week, I think he had the first one gone in the first two nights. I wish I could air Mail you all a palet full for the BBQ.

Here are a few picts from the previous weekend and the week...

Some one should fix it with photoshop... he should be holding on with the right hand and giving us all the thumbs up with the left....

So sad that we didn't make it this year,:(We will have to definitely make it up next year.
Any dates set yet?

Just a quick reminder... The Monster Chute was climbed MANY times before most people even knew it existed!!! Long before it was a "catch-phrase" on this forum!! By turbo 2-strokes, big-bores and yes, even a stock Rev. Dave Knight, Dan Davidoff, Don Lenz, etc. etc. Swenson pulled it the first year the RX1 came out. Granted, all these guys went up it with no tracks. I can see it being 1000x tougher with the huge ruts up there!! Regardless, Anyone who conquers this awe-inspiring chute (Don Lenz was the first to go over it. Two people tried before him. One burned his motor down (it was a PSI 990), the other got right to the top on a D&D 1010 and rolled all the way down) deserves kudos. It truly is a crazy pull. EXPECIALLY when the snow is deep!!!!

BTW, Yamafest was amazing. What a great time!!! Randy and the Yamaha staff are great people!!! Good to see old friends and make new ones!!! AWESOME TIMES!!!

Watching the guys pull the Arm and the Gash and both of them (*almost) at the same time, WOW!!!!! Even the show in the Monster was worth the 11 hour drive. Very cool and tons of amazing sleds and great riders!! Great job to all who rode, attended and put on this fun-filled show!

JIM :D

Hey Jim,
Glad you had fun in Revy. Ive only been sledding that mountain for the past (almost) 25 years, and my father has been pioneering that mountain for the past 45+. But I guess monster chute was never known until these people came along. Is there any video of those climbs ? that would be cool to see. What time of year did they climb it ? is there any chutes in the USA that compare to that climb ? I would like to come down there and check out the territory, I guess ive never been there, so it's hard to imagine.
This years Yamafest was off the hook. Not only were there awesome riders, but great weather and stable snow conditions. Couldnt have timed it any better.

Hey guys, I ask a simple question. I did not ask it in a threatening way and I did not take away from anything accomplished at Yamafest. It's not everyday stock sleds climb these chutes. I simply wanted to find out how they were doing it this year.

This did not get ugly until Lapper made the condescending comment "you keep watching the videos and well keep making them" I thought it was a disrespectful comment given the fact that we ride just as good, build sleds just as big, and climb chutes just as bad. I have never been to Canada riding, but I do ride with several guys who have. I ride with guys who have seen these chutes up close and personal. I know how they compare to the chutes we are climbing here. I have also rode with great riders from Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. Fact is, chutes just as bad as those in Canada were getting pulled by riders all over the country last weekend. If Lapper and the guys think there doing something that is exclusive to Yamafest it's time for a reality check. I respect every attempt made on any chute at Yamafest, but I also realize there are a lot of pulls being made in other parts of the country that deserve the same respect.

well, I will step into the mess here...I ride Bozeman area a lot...there are some incredible pulls to be had...but I also ride BC every chance I get...the two areas are completely different and the differences make both enjoyable to ride...

One of the things that makes BC so shocking to me...is the path in to the locales...which is not something generally filmed (Eagles dropping a 1500' nearly vertical chute to get to the chutes to play on)...whereas in MT, most of the locales we get to play the big pulls and chutes...those areas are, relatively speaking, not nearly as difficult...

it is impossible to fully describe the differences...but just getting into areas like turtle, and eagles pass can be hairy...whereas Cooke, Teepee, Portal, etc. etc. are not nearly as limiting on who can get in there...

I LOVE riding up in Revy, Sicamous, etc. but riding here at home in MT, well we have some riders here who can hang with anyone anywhere...just different styles...

where I live now, if your not dodging tree limbs every 5 seconds, we get claustrophobic in places like BC above the tree line :)

I hear ya on being the local, Veedy! It must have been an amazing thing to pioneer those mountains. You truly live in God's country. Re the Monster, I said it was unknown by most people :) I am sure there were people who had witnessed its glory (perhaps you or your father) and potential to be ascended. Yes, there is lots of videos of the early climbs up the Monster. I even know who named the chute :D. I believe Thunderstruck 2 has some of the ascents in it. So does TS3, TS4 and TS5. I am sure it was spring snow conditions for most of the pulls but that was what we had when we we found it. So we did it. And tried it. The stock Rev climb is in one of the Extreme Team movies, cannot recall which.

There is truly tons of pulls like that down here. There is another "Turtle Mountain" down here somewhere where there are literally chutes everywhere. Huge, small, crazy, easy, skinny, etc. Utah also has some of the biggest pulls I've ever seen. Wes Little has done one over 3000 feet (The Monster is a bit over 1200 feet of vert if I remember correctly) of vertical before only 5 miles from his house. Farmington is his back yard, literally. We park at their house, in their driveway, and ride 3500 feet to the top. . . Cool stuff. Cooke City has some crazy stuff that to this day have still never been filmed. So does Idaho and Wyoming. 509 Tom posts pics of the Troy, Montana area that are amazing also and have never been pulled. If you'd like to come down I can show you around, anytime.

BTW Veedy, you have hundreds more "Monster" chutes in your backyard, but I am sure you know that. Turtle Mountain has over 25 major chute pulls within the first 2 miles of dropping over the saddle. . . And yes, most have been pulled :), but a few have not.............

We should do a Yamafest day on Turtle next year!! That would be fun!!!!

JIM

Yamafest at turtle would be sweet, I dont think you could ever take the crouds allong but we should plan a ride like that with just all the boys atleast! Allot of untapped potential in turtle and some pretty wild rock formations to contend with!

I also think we should plan a road trip for next year too, question is do we head south or do we do like we planned this year (before the terrible snow conditions) and go to stewart.... oooh, both please!

The chutes on Boulder and turtle have been observed for many years and always thought of as never never land, but within the last 8 or so years sled technology has put them on the " done " llist. I'm going to have to a little google earth " flying " and check out some of these huge pulls in Utah, we would love to get down there someday and check out some new stomping grounds. I know which chutes you are talking about in Turtle and some of them are downright dangerous. I'm not sure if I would like to see anyone put their life out on the limb like that, just for the sake of a video. Monster and some of the other climbs in this area are dangerous enough, things can go wrong in a hurry, but then thats just the worry wart in me speaking, most all the riders have the skills. I just sit back and crap my pants while filming.....

We should plan a " day after Yamafest " ride on Turtle, that would be a hoot.

'scuze me, i'm going to go flying around Farminton for a while.... :D

Yamafest was awesome as always and the perfect weather was sure a treat. Anybody who climbs ANY of these chutes gets my utmost respect. Seeing Randy's TS chute in turtle the next day really put things into perspective. I can't believe he even saw that line, let along put a sled through those rocks. Cool stuff and Turtle really puts the badassness level off the charts.

But the real question is, when is there going to be the "film makers shootout"? You know, gather all the film makers pass the cameras off to the riders and make them film us TRYING their chutes. Should be prime for some crumpled iron and good comic relief. Haha, sounds fun, lets do it. :beer;

Now your talking tom!!!!!

Tom, I know all the TS guys are just waiting for the day I roll my sled out of a chute!!! They will be in Heaven that day!!! :) I better start inflating my cajones though, what all the chute climbers do does the same thing to me that it does to Veedy. . . I just crap my pants!!!!! :)

Veedy, if you are Google earthing Utah you might want to go north a bit into SW Wyoming. . . Amazing stuff there. LOTS of unclimbed stuff. In fact, look for me waving at the satellites on top of one of those ridges, we are riding there the next several days!!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I sooooooooo wanna be there for that! :D

I was actually the first one to pioneer the monster chute back in febuary 12th 1986, it was a winter storm 4 feet of new fluff i seen a line between some rocks, so as it cleared up for 5 minutes i started up the skandic took off the beaver pelts on my rack, i tilted my pods 34 degrees to the left giving it that extra edge i needed for this climb and by giving the sled a full can of beer to really spice it up. as i climbed about 2/3 up the skandic was pulling like a freight train until i hit a moose, through me off course and launched the top with 60 feet of air....:face-icon-small-win:beer;

Hahaha I heard you were already practicing for that shootout this weekend.... :D Sounds like a plan to me... finally I would get to ride instead of sit behind a camera.

Hey Laird, check the fourth pic of you in the "Gash", ...you might want to check the lugs on your track, you appear to be missing one on the left side.....................

hahaha, ya that darn lug always shows!!! Thanks for pointing that out...

Veedy if you do the Film Makers Shootout ill film it for ya!!!!
