xp throttle sticks

My throttle stuck on 2nd ride (4ft powder), luckily it happened after stopping for a minute, when I went to take off again a burped the throttle and thumb lever didn't return all the way. Hit kill switch and then worked throttle a couple times while smacking it with glove to work snow out of mechanism. Was more a snow build up freezing issue then cable problem. Haven't had any problems since

I had this happen Yesterday and twice before that on my XP. If the Thumb heater gets turned on HIGH and Powder is plentiful enough to get on and in everything a small "snowball" will gather between flipper and handlebar. The Heat and compression start forming a very consolidated "snowball" that builds itself around the wires and throttle cable on the inside of the flipper. I have not had it stick on full throttle yet but I have had it stop at half throttle. Good thing it Was NIPPLE Deep Powder that the XP could only walk through allowing me plenty of time to plan my next turn.

Well it sounds like this is happening to quite a few people... If the problem is due to the "snowball" (which I believe could be the issue) it is a separate problem than the one listed in the BRP recall.

From what I understand the recalled sleds have an issue with a lever that is binding.

So far it appears all XPs with stuck throttles were out when there was a LOT of new snow and during very cold temps.

throttle return springs were not modded in any way, first time it happened....first response to most situations like mine is to grab the brake,a natural reaction...time from problem to tree impact was less than 2-3 seconds...no time to analyze, just react..grabbing for the brake would probably be most peoples first response...there wasn't time for a second,,,i post this as a heads-up for other folks so maybe it helps somebody else...hitting the kill switch kills the engine, doesn't stop the sled going 40 mph in 2 seconds, and neither does the brake

quick up-date....one of the other local dealers had a sled wrecked due to stuck throttle on xp, talked with him and he said there have been several reports of stuck throttles on xps thru-out the ski-doo system....if anybody else has similar problems, tell us your experience, maybe ski-doo will step up to solve & fix problems/sleds

The throttle sticking issue was a Recall issued by BRP over 3 months ago....A responsible dealer shouldve called you and fixed the problem....As i understand it, it was a simple adjustment to the throttle cable bracket

Sorry to hear about your situation.....That really sucks!!

Mine Just stuck Sunday when loading onto deck, 1/4 throttle, fell of side bent bars and post, what to do?

mine has stuck too. To the point where i am now struggling to change it out. i think it was frozen up from very deep and dry fully pinned for 3 minute runs all day long. it did it so many times it has now pinched the cable in the flapper because it wouldn't return properly. i have had two near death experiences, and more then 30 throttle stickings in the last two weeks. Two scary for me. My kill switch has never worked from day one. now i wear dess cable but when your full pinned extra radical manoove leaning back theres no way to pull out without jumping off your machine.

Anyone have any experience putting a new cable in?
I have pipe off, black gaurd off, snipped tie strap on cable.
What comes off next? cooling system. this is not fun. cant see anything in there.
Currently looking at two days of pure bluebird sun + deep snow, and sled not ready! anyone changed a cable out yet?

i am 5 hours from my dealer. there is a dealer 3 hours away but he's new and i already have a good deal going with the guy 5 hrs away.
anyone know if coolant hoses and fuel pump must be removed in order to change cable out?

You dont need to take off the fuel pump or coolant hoses. There are seven ( or so ) torx head screws that hold the the head light Dash assymbly on, take it off and get it out of the way, the oil pump side of the cabe is hidden in some wire loom, you need to take the muffler off and the plastic panal behind the muffler. To get to the oil pump you have to remove the carbs. The oil pump is a Bltch to get to.

Hook up cable to oil pump first, then hook the cable to the carbs and put the carbs back on. The pump setting is 18.5 mm.

My cable broke! I was in West Yellowstone , dealer in town would not change it, he said it was too big of a job.I appreciated him for ruining my trip over a broken throttle cable. The oil pump is very hard to get to ,I was told you have to rock the engine forward to get to it. My dealer changed it in about 3 hours.

Where exactly did it break so the rest of can check ours and see if it is fraying

It broke right next to the throttle flipper at the end of the cable.I did notice it have a kink like someone else mentioned.Thats where it started to fray.

They should also report them to Transport Canada or US DOT and if they think it is requied they will tell BRP to do a recall.

I was in Cooke last week. After a day of powder we went back to the cabin to warm up and get ready to go into town. One pull on the rope and all hell broke loose!!!!!!!! Out of habit I always open the throttle when I pull the rope. The sled took off and headed for the side of a cabin at FULL THROTLE!!!! I lunged and just grabbed the mountain bar with one hand and desperately grabbing for the tether cord with the other. The sled drug me 40-50 feet before I got it shut down. Why not just hit the kill switch???? Because the kill switch quits working after a half day of powder. After composing myself, I looked back and and a mom and her little boy were walking between the cabins and walked right over my tracks !!!!!!!Had it been a moment sooner it would have been unthinkable...
