XP Review - BRP: PLEASE Build these RIGHT the First time!

I think 7 years waiting for a relaible 800cc motor is patience enuf, Don't You????????????

Absolutely NO insult intended but that is why a big company loves to hear Don't worry they will still buy it....Sorry to hear about all the issues:face-icon-small-sad

Dang!!! Thats sucks guys. Slim I don't think all four have that many issues, Ski Doo seems to be number one every year.

Does Ski Doo cover any belts? 300 miles and on the third belt!!! I will pass, epically when the belts are $140+ each

How does Yamaha's belts hold up for 2000+ miles on a turbo with 300hp??? Dang we should blow belts every ride lol

Glad someone brought up the Yamaha 8DN belt.

A 900 Cat based twin fits in the old Rev chassis with not a whole bunch of work. I set the center to center up on mine to run the 8DN Yammy belt and I'm still on the original.

Carppy deal on the engine Slim...

I'll let you ride my little Poolaris Slim. Took her out for the maiden voyage today and it was great. I hope they get the issues worked out with the motors and clutches for you guys. Most of you have hung in longer than I would have. I'm not much for brand loyalty. Different strokes for different folks.

Just a thought........

Correct me if I'm wrong... but doesn't bunches of blown belts lead to crank issues??? (In high HP sleds it'll twist one out of phaze) .

Not sure how many of you XP guys are letting the belts get to that point....

We'll see how BRP handles a bunch of crank failures due to their ignoring the belt/ clutching issue.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Good point, if I blow a belt under boost in my M7 it will bend it like balsa wood

But keep in Mind.........XP800's dont produce alot of torque or HP, so blow away boys :D

I think I read that ski-doo sells more sleds than the other players... I wonder what the problem per sled ratio is for all the major manufactures. My RMK 700 leaks oil when you fill it up (recalled sensor), has recalled hand warmers, bends rear bumpers when you pick it up, buddy's 600RMK has an intermittent display, leaked chaincase oil out of the seal, same recalls (they should pay for all the oil over our brand new trailer)... Saw a lady with a 600RMK with 10 miles on it limping back to the trailer with coolant leaking everywhere. I too love my sled, but what the hell? For a vehicle that is supposed to be used to travel through extreme winter conditions they are sure built like $500 parts store dirt bikes!

Knock on wood, our RMK's haven't had to be towed anywhere... Yet.

I feel your pain!!

I, just as others, hate to see someones sled burn down, or in Doos case GRENADE!! I own a shop and repair all makes and models of sleds, atvs, etc. etc. I have done several polaris 800 cranks, but usually you do a crank, maybe a cylinder, generally one piston and probably the head, and you can generally plan on around 2500 to 3k miles. Now the doo 800 on the other hand is a bomb waiting to go off! When it does, plan on buying a new motor, cause it explodes! I am a hawk dealer, and when they put the 800 in I was excited for the power increase over the 600, but always worried if I would be towed out that day. Well my new hawk in 07 lasted 20 minutes, brp took a month and a half to except there problem, that we have seen since 01. They told Boivin that they don't have problems with there 800 motors. Boivin didn't want to replace it for me. I bought my own motor from a local doo dealer, and it took a month and a half to get reimbursed from Boivin for it. Bull$hit if you ask me. Then today, one year since I blew the last motor, I take my hawk out for the first time this year, and got 30 min. out of the pos, and blows a hole thru the block!! I can't wait for my new 08 dragon 700 motor to get here, it should be here any day. Glad I planned ahead, won't have the long down time again. My experience has shown me that if you take all the brands, and ride them for 3 yrs, you will put less money into a polaris than any other. The parts are less expensive also! New ride this year same old 07 Hawk with 144, powered by 08 dragon 700 efi!! I am stoked, same rated HP, but ten times more reliable. PERIOD. Sorry for the epilogue, but when the 07 doo motor came out I asked the doo reps if they were going to blow up too, and they told me no. I asked will you gaurantee they won't, he said no! I won't ever by a SKI DOON'T

:(

None taken, excellent point, I appreciate your input. What are we to DOO?

The answer is take just one o off of doo Used to be a cat fan but too many recalls then went over to yami other than not enough power pretty bullitproof...Hope you get it sorted out and soon Terry:confused:

Why do you guys complain so much about recalls? Hilly's M-1000 has had two or three, but it's has never blown up or left him stranded. The last recall was to relace the whole motor after a great last season. Now he has a new motor and another full warantee. How the he11 can that be in the same league as the Doo 800? Recalls can be a good thing, if it fixes a problem before it gets to you.

Sounds like just some bad luck to me. The dragon 700 motor has only one season under their belt... 10 times the reliability>>?? guess you have to wait and see.

My thoughts are, if you continue to buy these machines that are continually
breaking, or poorly designed or whatever term you want to use, they will keep building them. Doo has been the #1 seller for a few years now, why? You keep buying them, even though they have issues year in - year out. You
would think, like Slim stated, after 7 years they could build a 800 or a clutch
set-up to run it. They where the second design with "A" arms, you would think after 4 years they could design a "A" arm that bends rather than the
bulkhead (S module or Nun). I'm not saying buy a Yami, Cat or Pol, you like Doo, then ride Doo, just quit buying new ones every year until they build you the sled you are paying for. They all have their issues out of the factory however, after so many years and the same problems arise means they are flat laughing all the way to the bank!

`Bin waiting for series 4 from Doo since `04. Hate walking home in the snow. Hate being told there isn`t an issue.

`Bin on Cat since. The assembly line people should be paid more or they need more pride, the wiring harnesses must be made by GM, and there has been cutbacks on final R&D. BUT, I`ve never walked home.
After lots of miles and 4 AC sleds I think the laydown Suzuki motors are the most dependable 2-strokes made today. The old 670 (had more than a couple) was great and will not debate against them, but will not say they were better either.
I`d rather fix the little things and laugh at the crudeness on the Cat`s than walk.

Not trying to sell a Cat, I think they`re all junk really ( ya, Yamaha too, they have more than just steel in Japan). Just my reason for not jumping on an XP and 8 yrs of engine issues is just toooo much.

I'm with ya slim!

i hear ya..

i still have the 99x and it runs GOOD... still running on the original pistons.

slim .. you were there when my 800 motors [3] either punched a hole thru the case, lost a piston ring locator pin or a crank bearing..

the 800R scares me even more... that's why i didn;t buy one this year.

good luck and i think the idea we talked about on the phone is a pretty sound one.

what happened to the motor?

doo better get their chit together on the xp b4 tryin to put 880/1000 in a xp chasis.

ill enjoy my H.O til things are figured out. its gonna be aftermarket tweaks/parts and not a brp fix cause they arent helping a whole lot.

My brother just bought an 08 Dragon 163. I have one bad *** 600 H.O. SDI that is a great sled but have been trying to decide what 800 I will buy in the spring. I was SOLD on the XP. Its light, good looking and a ski-doo that Im partial too.

BUT NOW-- so far after riding an XP and then my bro's Dragon I am leaning towards a Dragon. Its silly to spent 10k on a sled and then have to add 2 thousand in mods to get it to run right when the Dragon is mountain ready our of the box.

I hate to say it, but its alot of the consumers who are screwing the market up. Too many people are willing to buy new sleds every year and mod this or mod that just to have the latest thing. If people would sit back hold their money and expect the manufacturers to deliver a good product it would do everyone some good.

So far the Dragon is my #1. If Ski-Doo can get their head out of their asses then maybe they will get me $$$$$ but NOT NOW.

friend of mine has about 400 miles on his XP 163. i dont think hes messed with any part of it other than adding a LOT of vents to both side panels and other vents all over. It still looks really good.

Still on the original belt after 400 miles. i looked at the belt when i took the sled for a day and the belt looked great.

Oh, and Boondock can attest that this guy rides his sled hard. Im impressed that he has no belt issues.

Sorry to hear about the engine Slim, and all the other problems the XP is having.

2156 miles on my 07 RMK 600, original belt. :)

I guess the Doo guys need to keep thinking this as they are buying new belts by the case, and worried about the motor blowing: IT SURE IS LIGHT HUH? LOL.

I don't know about everybody else, but my XP has NO BELT ISSUES! This sled flat out rips! I wish I didn't have to replace the s-module after a 15 mph rock encounter, but hey, it's a snowmobile not a rock crawler. That same rock encounter also broke my thumb. That being said, my '06 REV took a ton of ski hits that didn't bend the nun. Those hits also never broke my thumb. So I'll chalk that encounter up as a gooder;) If POO builds a sled lighter than the XP next year, I'll buy it. If AC builds one lighter, I'll buy it. If Yamaha builds one lighter.......well:D. I don't know about the rest of you, but I ride in the MOUNTAINS! Guess what works best in the mountains? A light sled. Period. My '06 left me hanging once when the chain broke. I got towed out. Big deal. I'll take one every couple of years, especially when you buddies ride Yammys: you are guaranteed to get towed. You will take a rash of crap, but so what. Doo's aren't perfect. But I love the XP's riding position and lack of weight. If it starts giving me "fits" every couple of rides, I'll sell it. Now then, go find a good Ski Doo dealer that knows how to set-up a clutch, by an XP, and go RIDE:beer;
