XP Review - BRP: PLEASE Build these RIGHT the First time!

happy new year slim.

I have been sick for the last 4 days and we have epically deep powder. I guess this is saving me $400 bucks. a belt a day. I might sell the xp and get a m1000 i don't have any brand loyalty to anyone. And i hate to tinker with a passion. I want a stock sled that can hold up to me.

yes it is true

The 670 was the best 2 stroke motor in history... but it would not fit properly in a Rev chassis. There was a guy who was on ther forum, from Alberta who put one in (Ralphy helped him). He had to modify steering and a whole bunch of other crap to jam it in. The motor has to sit too high, in a vertical state to operate properly. Those dang carbs were in the way.

Perhaps throwing it in backwards, or use a watercraft rotary....

I was unaware that the Rotax 800's were blowing up all over(exept when the 800r came out first). I know of someone who has 12000 KM on his 2001, and it is still going strong. Heck, my old zx prolly has 5000+ on it.

Tell me why would the manufacturers make a 2 stroke last longer than a few years anyways? They make all their money on parts these days...

Summitboy, if you want to sell your junk XP.. I will buy it. I won't pay you more than 7000$ for it, but I am sure to you it is not worth that much...;)

Being a heavy rider I wanted to belive in the XP and I had my dealer friend find me one. After reading the pages and pages of issues on this sled I backed out at the last minute and bought a Dragon 8. It cost me some bad feelings with my buddy but on a sled standpoint it WAS an EXCELLENT decision. I already have one ski doo in my trailer that I cant give away didnt need 2. Sold my '07 7 Dragon for 8k, cant dump the '07 8 Rev for 7k. I rode one and it vibrated like an RMK900 and rattled like a 30 year old VW. Saw the clutch compartment was full of belt debris and skid marks. The Dragon 8 is close in hill performance, better in some situations and so far is as close to perfect as a first year sled can get. BRP does not care about those who buy a new sled every year, if there is a prob they will take their own damn sweet time to fix it. It doesnt matter how much technology is in a sled, if its got this many problems out of the gate I dont want it.

375 miles on two belts, just installed belt #3......the secondary is really pissing me off, too much margin for error, adjusting belt deflection each time to remove t he belt is silly!!!! Got a 44/33 helix on order as the stock helix seems to not snap in an upshift or downshift as my 06 summit does.

The sled came stock wothn hollow pins, I replaced these 11g pins with some 19g pins, and 10K ele on clicker 6 seems to run a little better now, 8150ish RPM

Freakin book says the 163 comes with a 19 top gear, my sled has a fuggin 21…….WTF!!

None the less, this sled rocks!!!!! And is hella easy to get unstuck

Dang!!! Thats sucks guys. Slim I don't think all four have that many issues, Ski Doo seems to be number one every year.

Does Ski Doo cover any belts? 300 miles and on the third belt!!! I will pass, epically when the belts are $140+ each

How does Yamaha's belts hold up for 2000+ miles on a turbo with 300hp??? Dang we should blow belts every ride lol

sorry to hear bout your sled!
i've been good with engines on all my Doo's that i ever had! my new xp is the best performer i've ever owned..and i'm mostly happy with it so far(only 120 miles on it)!

one of the big things that kept me with Doo was "user friendly"..and somehow thats disappearing!:( (my 96 summ was more user friendly)!Has the learning curve stopped??
Reliability?? well..all maufactures are probably in the same boat in one way or another..imo! (Doo has a big market share)
Clutching??...this has been a Doo weakness! maybe this would be good snowcheck promo..personalized clutching!:) And i would really wish they would bring down those stupid price's of those belts:mad:! if ultimax can sell theirs at a lower price and still profit,,why cant Doo!!
Aftermarket's love Doo!:lips:

i've ridden Poo..Cat..Yami......Doo is still my choice ride:rolleyes:

For you guys lamenting the 670 motor going away.

I still have my 99'X, and I cannot conceive of getting rid of it. Yep the throttle pull is aweful, yep yopu cannot park it with it pointed downhill, but given those limitations, it is one of the best sidehillers I have ever ridden on.

It is not totally stock, it had a skid relo, punched the track to a 151, did some gearing, put mag arms in it, newer style outer have driven, it is fantastic in the deep..... and boondocks extremely well.

Will it hang with the bigger sleds, nope, not for getting the highmark, but I am at a point in my sledding where my pe(ker size is not determined from how high on the hill I can get...........

Long live the 670 HO motor!

And they rave about the 800cc making 151 HP, Horsepuckey!!

Back in 98' we dyno'd my 670X at 143.6hp with just a carbon fiber rotary valve, UFO's, head cut & HPS can........ Boy have we improved eh!!:(:mad:

I say take that 670X, apply today's technology, make it work and shove it in the XP, walla, a 400 lb machine with 150 hp that LASTS for 5000 + miles.

Idaho Slim---I am in on this as well--Have been looking for a REV chassis for my ole moddy 670 motor--still running great and dynoed it at 157 HP--full moddy but dependable as the day is long--it always runs with no issues--wish they could build a quality motor like this today. I had my 1000 blow with about 1600 mi on it last year--hoping the new motor will hold together longer.

How about a 800 rotory valve motor??!!

And don't talk about the angle the motor has to be mounted--it can all be worked around!!! I know someone will say something like that.

H20SKE...

The XP design is almost perfect as a consept , I would guess. I wish Cat had made it. I like the Cat motors. I've never blown one yet, While I've seen inside engine parts from most of by 800 Doo buddies, some more than once. That's wrong. The XP with a old 900 Cat motor would be mint. I like that motor. I like it bore to a 1000 better. I don't much care for the new 1000.

All I can say is none of the manufactures are out to make a bad product, but when they are competing against three others sometimes it is difficult to put out a product without sufficient specifications. Keep in mind though that a first year product usually has it's issues unfortunatly. They talk up there product and it makes us all want to jump on it and sometimes it lets us down, but for the most part when there is an issue at hand the manufacturer will stand behind thier product. Be patient... some of the time the consumer is the test pilot in order to deal with sometimes altitude type of problems and or other issues that may come up. I agree it is hard to believe that a multi million and or billion dollar industry cannot produce a product that is worthy of all its hype. Although it may be frustrating you still bought a first year sled that sometimes has to be changed in order to meet certain criteria without able to test. The car industry has the same issues, right? Don't get a bitter taste in your mouth. It usually and always works itself out. If you have any dought then buy a Polaris or Yama and deffinatly not a AC. jk there all the same.

um................

I think 7 years waiting for a relaible 800cc motor is patience enuf, Don't You????????????

Even with issues I love this sled, may buy a 163 X tomorrow and let my wife ride the 163.We rode today and had a blast again, this sled is a freakin riot to ride.Doo needs better quality control but there is no sled on the market I would even consider giving up my Xp for!

not bad... but I am on my FIFTH BELT at 150 miles... sled is going to the dealer and can stay there

My 04 Summit had a total melt down 1 month after the warr ran out, Cost me 3500 WITH the motor exchange. Never buy a Doo again. Period, end of story.
