XP 866 VS. m1000

My thoughts are the XP866 will prob take the "07" M 1000. that 1000 was a tank and had major fueling issues! On the other hand do some dieting to it and put the 09 fuel map into it with a a few minor mods and the XP will stay over in the doo section.........

I think your 07 would hand it to a 866.

I am a bigtime cat guy but that 866 will beat you up in deep powder, heck I have seen stock xp's beat up on stock M1000's in the deep stuff. Get the powerclaw track and the slp or speedwerx pipe setup with some good clutching and you will fare much better but in stock form I am not impressed with the 07 or 08 M1000.

I have a 09 modded m1000, not worried about any xp's and still looking for one that will make me work for it. The only thing that is comparable is another 09 m1000 with same mods. The sled I was referring to is a heavily modded 07 done by Rkt.

For the record I love my M1000, and would never switch to an XP. That being said there are too many variables to this question. I bought my 07 stock and wasn't impressed. PC track, HPS can, updated 3 post, diff. helix, boss seat, BDX bumper, venting, other small changes to lighten it up and I'm now very happy. My next steps will be BDX lightweight diamond drive, and then prob. the timbersled goodies. As my sled is right now it runs great and I know I can beat the XP's that are running well, but up against those that are modded, especially the BB's I don't think I could beat them. I know I could stay close, but if the snow is deep they'll prob. win. In good hookup base snow I'd say I'd have it. I will say though that there is way more potential in a 1000 than the XP's.
As for the statements that stock XP's, or even mods for that matter beating turbos... if they are the turbos are not running right, or it's a 600 on low boost. I ride with many turbos and when they are running well, none of the rest of us can touch them, even a full mod king cat with 40 hp nos, not even close.
My suggestion, set up your new sled just how you want it, some guys will beat you, you will beat many others, but just have a good time.

the key will be if your engine mods are fueled correctly, and not over-fueled the way most are....equally important is the clutch set-up, especially the driven.....my 1000 is well set-up and i've ridden with 2 different 860 xps....i could beat either of them convincingly (i.e., even they admitted that i was the only 1000 that had beat them)...but if you're not dialed, they will take you..

This is one guy you should listen too. His M1000 is a screamer. :D

let us know the outcome. i'm hoping for the cat:D just because i got one also:beer; dont sugar coat it either:rolleyes: i'm pullin for ya:D

I'll let you guys know, The only problem is it will be 2 months, Im still building the sled and our trip is in the end of FEB........I cant wait When My build is complete I will post it with pics.

I haven't ever seen an 866 XP. I have rode with an 860 Dragon that really ran well. I have an '09 1000 with full SLP pipe setup. I was riding in Alpine Wyoming last year and this guy on the 860 asked to race me up a steep, short tracked hill. He beat me good in a race up a packed track. Probably 4 or 5 sled lengths. I was running the stock 36 degree helix at the time and the BD box. We also raced in powder up a longer pull and the Cat did better off the line and really started to pull away. The Cat pulled the whole hill and the 860 pulled out. (I really think this was related to the track, not the power difference). While riding that day, the highmarks on the hill were taken by the cat. But I have to admit that the 860 was like being shot out of a cannon out of the hole. This was a Saturday. The following Wednesday, we were back for another ride, but I had switched to a Power Commander and a 44/36 Helix from SLP. We never did race again up a tracked hill, but the difference out of the hole for the Cat was night and day. We raced up a few longer pulls and there was no question that the 1000 had every advantage. On the hill there was an even bigger advantage for the Cat. But, there honestly should be an advantage for the Cat. 866 vs 1000. When set up right, that 1000 is like a diesel and just pulls forever up the steepest climbs.

Depending on what you are doing, you could have your hands full in a race. If it's climbing, I think the Power Claw track is really key. And you'd have to pick a big hill. Don't race it in a packed track though, you may get your butt kicked!!! (but racing in a packed track is dumb anyway).

Well just to throw in my .02 cents....

I'm on an 09 154 XP with a hi-comp head, clutch mods, can, 1 tooth gearing drop and some suspension work.

Buddy is on an 09' M1000 bone stock cept for an obnopxious arse MBRP can.

We line up at the bottom of a 50 Yard hill with a few feet of snow? I can beat him by about 1 sled to the top as I kill him outta the hole with better traction. Mine hooks up where his spins the track like a top fuel dragster in the staging area.

More than 50 yards?

That big 1000 hooks up and comes by me like a frieght train!! When it gets steep at high altitude that 1000 simply dosent lose any RPM it just keeps on truckin. That sled runs like my chipped turbo Cummins' ram!! STOCK!

That being said....And if anyone was at Grand lake yesterday up at those bowls you would have seen me and my buddy at what I assume may have been Chicken Hill?

There were also a few dudes there on newer 800 Dragons.

I had no chance in the battle of the highmarks and bowed out early. I'm a rookie and there were some big ugly sled killin' rocks on the hill.

Buddy on a stock M1000 with a can? After a nice battle highmarked the two dudes who were better riders than he is on the Dragons.....

The thing that makes the deal interesting? Is that my buddy rides that M1K sitting on his fatass only standing up at the last minute to turn out and then sitting right back down!

Flapper to the bars the fatkid sitting on his fatbutt on an M1000 simply makes more track speed and dosent lose RPM's compared to the 800's. That thing cam climb skill or not. All it takes on the M1000 is a big ballsack!!

My buddy is bigheaded now.....I'm hoping somebody can take him out so I dont hafta hear his crazy ranting and raving about how great him and "Trenchy" can climb.... Stopped by powerworld and called out old Clint Bobo the sales mgr that rides a new 2010 M8....Suddenly even Bobo started talking that "I'm more of a Boondocker talk".

M1000's aint no joke. Them sumsa*****es make big power and hold track speed on the long and steep even with a fat lazy bastage at the helm!!

Buddy picked up a PC111 and is getting his full SLP kit this week that big trencher is gonna make what a buck ninety?....Its all over for me on my XP unless I can kill him in the deep powder or outfinesse him through the trees.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAHHHAAA Chaz thats some funny chit. Your buddy named his M1 Trenchy. Thats awesome. :D:D

LOL, Why do you gotta pick on the fat kid?

Ha! We are both in the 230+ club. Thing is that derned M1000 is more proportioned to big dudes than the 800's are....I have seen it over and over again. That 1000 aint no joke. On anything short of 5 foot of fresh powder that thing holds more track speed in the steepness than a non-turbo 800 could ever hope for.

My buddy likes to think he is a badass....Yeah he aint skeered but by all rights he simply sits down on the big pig, holds the flapper to the bars, and ruins those skinny pretty boys thoughts of having a highmark!

Dude....If you only knew. I need Dragon 12 to back me up on this chit. Dude refers to his sled as a person...."It" lives in my garage and I get a call everynight "Is Trenchy OK", "Make sure Trenchy has oil", "Be good to Trenchy".

He talks about that derned sled like its his kid! Trenchy had fun today, Trenchy ruled the hill, Trenchy got stuck.... Its bordering....Errr not bordering it is sickening!!

I'll put out an Amber alert on my Buddy....This is Trenchy. If you see Trenchy up at Grand Lake, Corona Pass, or Cottonwoood? Please Highmark his funky-Butt in any bowl or anywhere just to shut him up for a day!!!
