XP 866 VS. m1000

Ok so I bought this 07 m1000 162 and started on the diet. I am also adding some other little do dads to make it better. Well since I bought it all of my ski doo buds have been on my case that this XP with an 866 motor will walk all over me. There are bets placed and lots of trash talk. I dont think that I have anything to worry about. What do you guys think?

on highmark my bets on the doo if it has a 162+ track honestly i havnt seen a 1000 impress me now ive been around some 174 xps that would give turbo sleds a run for there money

and the guys that ive been around have big heads from owning them so they just kinda sit at the bottom and tell everybody they could beat the mark

Depends on your riding ability, the Doo rider's ability, your/their weight, the track you're running....if it is still the stock Challenger track, then good luck...and how you hold your head. I've owned three M-1000s. None of them in stock form has impressed me; however, with a different track (PowerClaw), some weight loss, venting, engine mods, and clutch work to match, now you have something to hold your head up about.

If you are both close in weight and riding ability, then the doo may edge you out. With the above mentioned mods, set up correctly, you will own him, most of the time. And this, from a Cat guy.

My third M-1000 is equiped with an altitude compensating system....game over!:)

the key will be if your engine mods are fueled correctly, and not over-fueled the way most are....equally important is the clutch set-up, especially the driven.....my 1000 is well set-up and i've ridden with 2 different 860 xps....i could beat either of them convincingly (i.e., even they admitted that i was the only 1000 that had beat them)...but if you're not dialed, they will take you..

depends on how well setup each sled is. In deep dry powder a stock xp will beat an 07 m1000. I think a 09 m1000 with full pipe setup right will beat it but anything less might be questionable. You will at least need to make it like an 09 and add a slp or SW full Pipe. If you ride on heavier snow and have a full pipe the m1000 is hard to beat when setup. I had a 07 piped that ripped and never got beat by any 08 xp's but never road with on in dry deep pow. a 866 is a lot diff. never had any doo touch the 09. would like to see what a good 860 would do.

Clutching depends on elevation and how much power your getting. A Power Claw is the best mod you can do on a m1000.

the xp that gives turbo sleds run for there money is a very and i mean very well setup xp hes a 3-5time jackson hole champ "cant remember how many" and he knows his stuff, didnt say he would beat them but come close.

and i was talking the guys i know with big heads are the 1000 owners, i ride a polaris i dont care what sled is better just from what ive seen the 1000s just were not that impressive iam sure there are some out there that are. you could post this in the skidoo section and iam sure you would get the opposite opinion, alot of guys buy what they have seen spank there sleds or other peoples sleds.

where do you ride?

Last year there was kid on a 09 163 xp that would run right next to my 09 m1000 both sleds stock. He weighed 135lbs though and I'm about 210lbs. and the snow had good traction. I think in the fluff he might of got me, due to overall weigh. my 09 stock beat my modded 07 so you have some work to do. I've beat rg turbos on my 09, and bean beat by pg turbos, doesn't mean anything.

I'd say get a powerclaw, slp pipe set, power commander3, and bdx intake. Should get the job done. The 1000 runs hard, you just have to put a little money and time into it.

I think adding motor mounts is a must as well. the 09 tunnel make more of a difference than you would think.
