WTF kind of deal is THIS??

Buddy and I go to the snow show....Ski-Doo dealer offers my buddy a leftover XP for $8695 out the door. We'll think about it, we say....

We leave the snow show and stop at another dealer on the way home to pick up some parts. My buddy is sitting on another XP and is approached by a salesman. Buddy tells salesman about the snow show offer and the salesman agrees to match it. He writes the agreed to price on one of his cards. We'll think about it, we say.......

Buddy decides that he wants sled.....I agree to help him through the process, as he hasn't bought a new ANYTHING in 30 years. He is going to pay cash.

Two days later, we call the salesman and agree to the 08 XP 154 (with all updates) for $8695 out the door. Salesman takes $500 deposit on credit card and says he'll call when the update is done.

Salesman calls and says that the sled is ready. Buddy informs salesman of his promotion choices.

Off we go to pick up the sled. I leave buddy to do paperwork and head over to the parts counter to get some stuff for my sleds. I return just as the paperwork is being finished, and ask buddy if he made sure that they got his promotional choices correct. Lady doing paperwork says that she just spent 10 minutes finding out about the warranty, and it's 1 year B to B, and 2 extra years of engine coverage. I explain that the promotional material I remember said 3 years free B to B on all eligible Summit models. Nope, says the lady, I must have been mistaken.

Once home, I went onto BRP's website and looked up the promo.....

Choose and TWO of the following options:

1) 3 year B to B warranty on summit.

2) Special financing......(not needed- paid cash)

3) $200 in accessories.

ALSO on the site is ANOTHER promo where you get a $250 gas card if you buy before November 9, 2008.

I call dealer this morning and explain my concerns......Salesman says that in order to match the other dealer's price, they had to take the 3 year B to B warranty. What about the $200? (Salesman doesn't seem to understand that buyers get to choose TWO items, I had to explain it to him) Salesman says that they took the $200 as well.

THEN I throw out the $250 gas card. (Salesman doesn't seem to know about it). Salesman says that they took THIS TOO.

I don't know what the $$ difference between 2 year engine only coverage and the 3 year B to B is, but the $200 in accessories and the $250 gas card bring the total price of the 08 XP to $9145 PLUS the value difference of the 3 year b to b. An 09 XP 154 is 10,299 MSRP.

I explain that when we struck the deal, (OR DURING THE TRANSACTION) it was NEVER mentioned that the promotions would be taken away......Salesman says "you didn't ask". (You have to ASK if your warranty is going to be cut by 2/3??) He claims that they GAVE us an extra 2 years engine only warranty, and that that makes it an EXTRA GOOD DEAL. Salesman tells me that it's the engine I need to worry about anyway.......LOL

Even better is the fact that the two identical items that I ordered and paid for at the parts counter were a whopping 38% OVER Ski Doo's retail price.

Since I wasn't getting anywhere with the salesman, I asked to be transferred to the parts counter. I explain that I was charged more than msrp for my parts. I also explain that the dealers OWN WEBSITE lists these parts for $39.99 (which ironically is Ski Doo MSRP). Parts guy says that that's the MAIL ORDER PRICE and that the in-store price is more due to the fact that someone (in the parts department) is involved. WTF?? He finally agreed to credit my Visa for the difference, but warned that it was only for "this time".

I understand that the dealer needs to make a living....My family ran a similar business for 35 years. 38% mark-up OVER MSRP???

I'm going to contact them one more time and give them a chance to make it right.

Anyway, I have a few questions for my fellow snowesters:

1) Can they actually take your promotional warranty away??

2) Should I call BRP to complain, or would I be wasting my time??

3) Does the B.B.B. in Washington State have any teeth??

4) Should I post the Dealer's name??

My thoughts are that you should still get the 3 year warranty. The cash back probably went out the window with the show pricing as well as the gas card.
Problem you made here is that it should have all been discussed before the transaction was made, your bad:(

thats a load of bull when i bought my fusion used with 1700 miles i got a free pair of gloves a full tank of gas and i even got the dealer to give me 10 doallers cash out of his own pocket lol. and warrenty didnt end till this year he covered everything. and let me do all the updates myself just gave me the parts cause i dont have much time to be movin sleds around he may be a little more expensive then dealers around but he treats me right and thats why i will keep going back to him.

" he may be a little more expensive then dealers around but he treats me right"

that's the point - if you pay for those kinds of things then OK, but if you wheel n deal the price down to cheap you better have it all layed out.

im sorry i dont understand what your getting at? what do i have to lay out i sriously think i lack common sense sometimes cause im just plain old confused

I haven't checked but I always thought the promo was for buying 2009 models (current year model) at retail. Is that the miscommunication?

Nope, that's not only for the 09s. If you go to Ski Doo's website, you can view the promo. The eligible sleds are 2006 to 2008......The Summits get 3 year bumper to bumper warranty, PLUS one other choice from the two items left.

The gal who was doing up the paperwork said that the PROMOTION was 1 year b to b and 2 years engine only. (THIS is for the NON Summit models.)

She did NOT say "in order to match the other dealer's price, we took the warranty and all other promotional items". NOBODY said it.

If they were going to do this, why not be upfront about?? Could it be that nobody would buy a 2008 XP WITHOUT a 3 year warranty??

In my experience you usually need to pay the full hit to get the promotion goodies. I'd rather have the knocked off price than what they typically offer. As a consumer we always want the best possible deal but remember the dealers still need to pay the light bill.

Sounds like it might be more of a misunderstanding rather than somebody trying to pull a fast one. Ultimately, your friend has a nice sled and should be pretty happy.

They HAVE to disclose the details with you. You need to check your paperwork because that is what creates the contract. Unfortunately, they probably slipped it in the contract and your buddy didn't look it over. If they didn't...take the sled back and demand a refund and show them your paperwork. Good luck.

As far as the BBB is concerned they are a private company and have no jurisdiction at all. They swing a big bat as far as consumer info and what not. But they cannot enforce or punish anyone to do anything. Good luck.

putting the steal in stealership

I like many of the local dealers but I always keep one hand over my wallet and make sure I still have my watch on when I leave.

the fine print on the website says..

Summit models receive up to 3 years BRP limited warranty.
"up to".they got ya by the balls

I guess..........

The fine print also says:

Offer may not be assigned, traded, sold or combined with any other offer unless expressly stated herein.

If the promotional items were taken in lieu of actual dollars off the price, wouldn't that be considered "sold" or "traded"?

summit

buddy just bought 2 for 8900 ea. w/ all but didnt know about gas card you shouldnt have to read fine print if people treat you right they know where you can be led wrong. The diff. is if they can look down the road a little ways and know they will get more than 200 back.give them 1 more chance to make it right then post their name.If you pay less than is fair maybe ............

Yep.....I'm going to give them a chance to make it right......Maybe if they cough up the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty, we'll let 'em keep the other chit.

Sounds like you bought the thing @ a used car lot, that or your salesman used to be one. That sucks for your buddy, seems to me when you deal in a smaller market like snowmobiles, atvs, dirtbikes it's generally a "different" buyer-seller encounter. I like to deal w/dealerships where the people there also ride kinda place you can hang out and bs when their not busy, just my opinion, hope it works out for you buddy.

Thanks.... My Dad had a customer that moved 300 miles away, but would make a yearly pilgrimage so Dad could get his machine ready for the season. He refused to let anyone else touch his machinery. Dad wasn't the cheapest person to buy parts from or get your machine serviced, but he was always up front with folks, and the service was done right.

in this day and age that's what it comes to , watch your back, when i bought my cat new in 05 , i made the salemanager put the deal on paper , in his writing and had him sign it before i gave him my pre season $300.00. when the factory warranty was expired and i was on the extended which he told me mirrored the factory cat warranty at the time of sale, i took my sled in for some warranty repairs , hood had some issues , seat stitching was comming apart, he told me that the exteded didn't cover this stuff, i went home got the contract and showed him where he had written it , bumper to bumper 3 years , factory mirror warranty for last two.he had no choice but to replace everything that was warrantable for the bext two years, he just cringed everytime i mentioned that contract. Now after all that we are the best of freinds even though i don't think he'll ever want to sell me another sled.
