Would you buy a used 09-10 800??

As I have been researching a new machine I went over to Carls Cycle the other day to talk to them about brand new machines and also used. The seemed pretty honest about everything.

They said the 2010 and up motors are doing better than the earlier 800s on the dragons. They said they had issues with around 4-5% of the motors on the old machines which they did consider to be high and they are seeing much lower rates on the current motors.

I still do not have a new machine yet, I am looking at pro's d8's and m8's. My first pick would be a pro but money is tight, the D8s seem to be a lot of machine for the money and I like the m8s but I can not find a good deal on the m8.

I snowchecked an 09 D800 and rode it trouble free for 1550 miles before trading up to a Pro.D800 was a great fun sled.I had the motor update done with 450 miles on it.I always used 91 nonethanol fuel and VES gold.Sealed up around my headlite and headlite adjuster to keep water from entering the airbox.Never lugged along @6500RPM always mountain rode and varied the throttle. It did have the occasional bog but i just lived with it as it was only on the trail going down usually.I took a beating on the trade from all the negative publicity. My biggest issue would be that 2-3 yrs down the road it may be worthless if you have to invest in rebuilds.I bought my wife a low mileage 09 RMK700 to keep long term as they are reliable except they too have bad VR

I bought my 09 d8 two years ago with 600 miles on it. They guy I bought it from said he did the update for the engine. I went and did the most current reflash at the time and have never looked back. I now have 1700 miles on it and have not had to do a single thing to it. I also do not have a mid range bog either. I love the sled it handles amazing just lacked some power compared to other 800 brands. I added a turbo this year and still so far really good. I would be a lil hesitant on buying another one cuz they are really hit and miss if you get a really bad one or a somewhat decent one. The best advice I got with this sled is drive it like a mod sled. NEVER keep a constant throttle. Even going down the trail just vary the rpms. Hope this helps you out!
