Wolves!

Yep. And there is hardly a day that goes by that I don't wish I was back there. If you like to hunt, fish, or sled (or just mabe hiding out from the federales) there is not a better place on earth.

just give them a belly ache and let them run off and die somewhere else. i know alot of ranchers do that here so they dont die on their property. shoot shouvle and shut up!

Ragin;

If you give em a belly ache and they run off somewhere and die, how ya supposed to shovel?

Lol

Make it one clean shot, cause we don't want the poor worms to starve

No way!! LOL Everytime I drive through there, I feel like all 6 residents are staring at me. I think they put the speed zone there just so they have something to look at when the traffic goes by. LOL I'll bet everyone knows everyone in Clayton. BUT I'll also bet that those locals in Clayton know the good spots to go get away though. Not many folks pull off the road in Clayton.

Aww, just tell Anderson and Madole and Ellis that you hate wolves and like to snowmobile and the entire bar will end up buying you a beer or 4. Actually, his son, Derek Ellis is not too bad at snowcross (http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/Snowmobiles/Racing/Racers/Snocross/DerekEllis.htm).

In all reality, Clayton can be a load of fun, especially the 4th of July. 4 free kegs set out after the 10:00 parade just to get things kicked off right. They fed well over 1,000 folks (pit roasted beef) about 6 years ago and it continues to have one of the most competitive horseshoe tounaments around. They usually have an entertaining water fight between the forest service pumper and the Clayton volunteer FD (the more female firefighers, the more entertaining), a mellodrama, a dunk tank that the sherriff sits in for about an hour (very popular and usually pays for all of the fireworks), a street shoot out, and the night is usually capped off by a pretty impressive firework display. Not too bad for a town of 26 folks.

And they are not staring, they are just hoping that you will pull over and shoot the breeze. Unless you are still sporting your 5B Plate. Then you are definately getting glares.

/Ahhh, memories.

Well in April my Montana plates and the 2 sleds on the deck didn't draw glares then. LOL

I bet I've driven that road 50 times in the last 10 years.

Montana plates are always welcome in Custer County. Many of the high scool kids go to Western and hitting Missoula for shoping is not much further than IF or Boise, plus no sales tax. I spent 5 years in Billings and can't complain about the folks there. Nice area and nice people.

On your next trip through, just make sure to stop by the Old Sawmill and tell the Old Man and the Grandparents Hi.

This is a really sad story........................

Close encounter raises concerns about wolves
By Scott Richards - For the Idaho Press-Tribune

For as long as I can remember, when you were in the mountains for any reason, a dog by your side was a great defense to warn you of predators. I used to believe in this. But now a dog is nothing more than bait to lure wolves.
Recently, while cougar hunting, an associate of mine, who is a licensed guide like myself, had a wolf encounter. He was cougar hunting with a dog on a leash when three wolves charged up on him. With waving arms and a screaming voice, he was able to persuade them to leave, but what if they had been a little hungrier? Your natural instinct will be to defend your companion. I am not saying you should leave your friend at home, but be prepared.
Put a bell or a beeper on him or her so you know where they are at all times.
The most important thing, in my opinion, is to pack a firearm. I personally believe pepper spray will not work in
a pack attack. Keep your dogs quiet when you are walking — no barking. If they are tied up in camp, no barking. And don’t let your children play with your pets and have them barking while they’re playing.
My personal belief is that the war has been lost. It’s too late to save our big-game herds in my lifetime.
What I have loved to do for most of my life is over, so enjoy it while you still can. Be prepared. I pray you never encounter a pack of Canadian gray wolves.

From yesterday's email. We live 30 miles from Hamilton.

Can you please send this out to everyone on every list? We have a pack of six huge black wolves coming down on to our ranch, they killed my sister in laws six month old heifer (ate her hind end out while she was still alive and left her to die) and they come in to our yards, chase livestock and are getting bolder all the time. On top of that the deer and elk have no youngsters to speak of that make it to weaning.
Thanks,
Suzy Foss

I think I'm going to use Sawyer's pictures for when we go to the meetings to try to keep Senator Tester from turning our sledding areas into "Wilderness" to "protect the wildlife."

Found this today on a huntingwashington. as of when I voted it was 63% for hunting 35% against... can we make the margin WIDER?!

KPAX is running a survey to see if people support a wolf hunting season. WE ARE LOOSING. Pleas click the link go to the bottom of the page and vote yes we need a hunting season. Although not policy setting it does send a message to Malloy (district judge that will rule on the issue).

Let's see if a few thousand SWers can help Molloy (VERY pro-green) see what the majority of the people REALLY want. Let's see if he can get it right.

As of right now, it's 65/35/2 in favor of a wolf hunt. Let's MOVE that blue line WAY up.

Especially if those SWers have multiple computers with multiple browsers on each computer. Vote early, vote often! :D

I like this guy!

I just hope the greenies don't use it in their favor.

Good find. It is about time the F&G are finally admitting that hunters are fed up, although I am glad he did it in a way that should minimize the outcry from the enviros. It took a big hit in their pocketbook to really get them active, but they know what is going on.

A couple more years of unmanaged wolves will really put a big dent on the number of elk permits avaliable. For some reason, only the hunters and the wildlife managers seem to realize that the money from these permits and licenses are the primary source of funds for the vast majority of the state wildlife management programs.

I just coined a slogan.
Who will make up the bumper stickers?

Bumper sticker campaign:

Legalize Wolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets make em and get them out there.
