Wolves!

Isn't he a piece of work:rolleyes: I cannot believe some of the stuff he spouts, but what's worse is SOME people BELIEVE it:eek:

I would call myself an avid hunter as well as an environmentalist but i am disgusted about the lack of understanding that the pro wolf group have about the consequences of introducing (not reintroducing because the canadian wolf is totally different from the native timber wolf) the canadian wolf into the yellowstone area.

Many of the pro wolvers around Bozeman are oblivious to the fact that there have been many instances of wolves coming right into town. For example, my girlfriend had one get into her families garage and do a fair bit of damage. She doesn't live way out in the boonies, but on the outscirts of city limits. Also, many might say that there aren't really any wolves even near Bozeman but that is also false. I enjoy ice fishing on hyalite resivoir at night and numerous times we have heard the pack begin to howl. I don't know if any of you have heard them howl but it is about the creepiest thing one could hear in the dead of night.

I was only 5 years old when the first wolves were set into the wild but my family and i have been very involved in the outdoors with snowmobiling motorcycling hunting fishing etc. for as long as i can remember. I have hunted elk and deer since i was the legal age of twelve and wish to continue doing so until the day i die. The Northern yellowstone elk herd population peaked in 1993 at 19,359 and is currently 6,279. A decrease by 67.6% in 15 years can be attributed to... oh yeah, what was the variable that was changed in 1995?? This massive decrease in population of elk can not be related to tough winters for the animals because these lates winters have been milder that they have been when the herd was thriving. Not only is the herd dying, but the average age of elk has increased substantially. "Recent analysis shows that the average age of elk harvested in 2005 during the Gardiner late season elk hunt hit record highs — 8.2-years old for cows, and 9.1-years old for bulls. Ten years ago, the average was 6.2 and 5.9 years of age respectively." ESPN Hunting (Now there is NO Gardiner late season hunt, the former widely given tag is totally deceased due to LACK OF ELK) Why is that? Wolves really like the tast of those fresh little calves, and they are so easy to kill for a 150 pound wolf that can run 30-40 mph. "Here again, the Northern Yellowstone elk are struggling. Aerial surveys indicate that, for the past four years, only 12-14 calves per 100 cow elk survived the first year of life and joined the herd. Recruitment of about 30 calves per 100 cows is required to maintain herd population" ESPN Hunting

Hate to rant, but this is an issue that is near and dear to my heart as hunting is a huge part of my life and one of the ways my family spends time together. Lets get the wolves regulated, there population is exploding and we have no way to keep them in check. Something has to be done, we have to fix this mess that has been created by reintroducing a monster into a smorgesboard of primarily elk.

Most people are just so in the dark about this issue that they think everything is hunkey dorey, NEWSFALSH!! things are not copasetic!

Lets get something going for controlling these animals!!!! or things will get way worse way faster than anyone has ever thought.

If I wasn't so "computer retarded" I'd create a web page titled "Ashley Judd's Save the Wolves Site." I'd post Sawyer's pix and Skogen's pic of the poor cow with her butt ripped open (Those pictures stay imprinted in your mind!) and say "wolves are not humane when they kill and maim for sport." And give some of the other stats you guys posted.

Then maybe just a few of all the mindless drones like her who believe her hate speech TV commercial rant against Governor Palin for shooting wolves (and how mean Gov Palin is to the poor little wolves) will go on the site thinking it's a pro PETA site and get a dose of reality.

from the Idaho section....doesn't look like they are too afraid of man to me.....eating next to a highway and a set of RR tracks.

Wolves are sooooooo dangerous!!!
Since 1900 there have been 80 incidents out of all those incidents six yes six attacks were bad. There has NEVER been a wolf fatality recorded in BC or Alsaka in over 25 years. You whiners that are so scared of the bush should stay out of it. Yes they do kill farmers livestock etc but for chr*sts sake packing pistols because youre scared of the big bad wolf give me a break go back to watching ferry tails of the big bad wolf blowing youre house down.

I think you have some reading comprehension issues. Where did he say anyting about being danerous? He said that they don't have much of a fear of humans. One does not equal the other.

The wolves down here don't have much of a fear of humans, becasue they don't have much of a reason to be. Are the elk and deer in Jellystone scared of us? No, because they have no reason to be. The wolves are protected just as much as the wildlife in Yellowstone (at least from a legal standpoint). That will change once we get a season on them.

mOdD, Alaska has WAY more open space than we do...and the predators spend a LOT more time getting hear civilization...and you don't have big elk herds that are disappearing at alarming rates...AND your predator/prey balance is far more near a balance than ours is.

Got this in an email yesterday

Here are pictures of the cougar that was apparently killed this morning in Parker Gulch. It was reported to me around 9 am. I took these pictures after my meeting at City Hall. It is in the first little draw to the left after the end of the cul de sac on Parker Gulch Road just below an elk caucus.
This was just a 1/4 mile out of the City Limits out Parker. There was a cow elk carcass about 50 yds. uphill that probably attracted both the wolves and the cat to the area. it is not officially confirmed yet but looked to F&G as if the wolves had killed the cat. This was the same cat that was on Lon Stickney's porch at NY's and F&G took to Little Wood Reservoir and turned loose.
The F&G officers stopped by today to tell me about the cougar autopsy. The wolves had mauled it on the back, rump, and they believe the kill bite was on the windpipe-neck area. The stomach ripping was after it was down.
We were watching the Wolf Pack (8 black wolves) today through a spotting scope. They were about a mile away on top of a ridge between Fairway Rd. & Elkhorn ..

We have more open space, but we have more critters as well. The wolves are controlled here, because they attack Moose and Caribou the same as they attack your ELK.:face-icon-small-sad

And in some areas the wolves wipeout the moose populations. I've been in areas riding where there are NO signs of moose for miles around because of a pack of wolves in the area. Predator control is a must if you want a healthy moose, caribou, elk, deer population. And there are those that do not understand that.

That's nuts. I have a buddy with a place at Elkhorn.
I sent this to him. Waiting to hear what he says.

Try living and working in a area where the wolves not only eat the elk, but your cattle also. And you cannot do a DAMN thing about it.

Following pictures are some of my bred heifers from 2007.

I say if the tree huggers want them, they can have them in THEIR state. Not ours. If I personally impacted somebodys way of life and living like they do mine, I would be in jail. And if you come and say that this is nature's doing, you are a FOOL! It is nothing more then piss poor management by our local FWP.

I hope you gave that heifer a lead injection shorty after the pic..
