Wolves removed from Endangered Species list

And a Nate says:

Alot of Idaho revenue is from Sportsmen that visit our state to hunt. Without the quality of hunting our reputation has created to bring this income in, economically we would suffer as well. Money lost.

Certainly wouldn't hurt my feelers to lose the revenue if we could lose the visiters as well.

Agreed, but if the herds are gone even the locals will stop buying and it will all continue to decline because of lack of money to manage and police. Thus the greenie's win in the long run!:(

Maybe we could teach the wolves to eat out-of-staters? :beer;

Wolves just took out a pet German Shepard on the outskirts of the town of Centerville here in Idaho yesterday. Townsfolks are feeling pretty uneasy!

Buck50,

And why do you feel there is a need to let the over population of wolves(due to federal protection) desimate the ungulate population to the point of extinction thus causing starvation of the wolf population, to bring the numbers of both species to a natural existance? If management can reduce the number of wolves to the point that the existing food source can support the existance, why not take the steps now instead of forcing all other species to fight back to a recovery state.
Idaho does not have the vast expance of wilderness land that Canada has and can only support a certain amount of seclusion for the wolf to roam freely so why do you take offense to managing them with a hunting season? I am sure you can go shoot a wolf up there so whay can we not do the same?

You do not know the situation down here yet you take a negative stance to management???? Personally, I would prefer you mind your own business! It is people such as yourself that forced this preditor on those of us that didn't want it in the first place. Now we have to deal with it, not you!

funny you say that cause in my post right above yours i believe i said pretty much the same thing:

i can totally see the ranchers point of view, as i've said all along. i really don't have a problem with culling the wolves a bit, but some on here seem h3ll bent on totally destroying them, just for sh1ts and giggles, ie buddy that likes to run over coyotes

never said don't cull them and manage them, just don't see the need to totally destroy them. and no, we can't just go shooting wolves whenever we want up here. and i never forced jacksh1t on you, so stop talking out your arse. and if you think people here don't have some of the same issues, maybe YOU should do some more research. we have ranchers too jackazz

Thats right, we dont want to destroy them, just thin the herd a little bit. If we completely destroy them we are taking away the chance for our kids to see them and understand

Same thing with the cromagnum men killing all the saber tooth tigers :face-icon-small-dis bunch of dicks  I wanted to stone one

The men, the tigers or the bunch of dicks?;)

"never said don't cull them and manage them"

Bullsh1t!!

Go back and read your posts ..... "hunters are just boohoo, they are eating my elk"

Get you story straight! Yea, there are a couple ignorant statements but your's is just as ignorant if you believe that us sportsmen aren't concerned about managing our resource properly and protecting it for the future of our sport!

I'm sure you won't mind giving up your riding areas too, if they want to close it to allow more undisturbed wolf habitat. It's easy to critic until it starts affecting you.

Nice name calling by the way, fits your character.

I'm going to get nailed for this ............but

I understand ranchers wanting to protect livestock against predators.

I want to play Devils Advocate here...

If ranchers don't wan't their investments to fall prey to predators, maybe they shouldn't have ranches in wolf country.

I would certainly hope that running over a wolf on a snowmobile is a joke and simply trying to needle the enviros on what the enviros perceive as a threat.

:mad:Running the wolf over on a sled was a joke. I have never seen anything like that. Just stirring the pot. But a serious note, they are dogs, dogs that do nothing but kill. Why do they get treatment over people? The rancher that has wolves should be able to wipe them out anytime they are near his place. I just don't see how you so called pro public land can defend the wolves. Soon it will be illegal to ride in the mountain because of the wolves are being disturbed.

You just trying to cause trouble :)

The ranches were here long before the eastern liberals decided to scream and hollar about "introducing" the wolves on top of them a few years ago.
So now we give up raising beef to feed the nation so the mighty wolf can roam freely????

You sure your not greenie in disquise?:)

All I can say is I do my part...... everytime they are in the cross-hairs.. :D.. haha.

129 pounder killed last week by buelah,wy.. but couldnt tell you who shot it

It is not only that, but a hunting season will make them more weary of coming close to ranches and peoples houses. Right now in central Idaho, they are just like Yellowstone Park animals. Almost no fear of humans. A hunting season would change that in a hurry.

Right now, my parents have had 5 or 6 elk killed within a 1/4 mile of their house this year. The elk just move closer to population to try to get away from the wolves and then they end up tearing up fences, eating all of your trees and bushes, as well as becoming a hazard to traffic.

For the last couple of years, my parents have been keeping a photo log to document all of the dead elk where you can see their house in the background. After the spring melt, it looks like a boneyard.

If I were a greenie, I could say that the wolf was here long before European settlement and the introduction of livestock.

Seriously...

Not trying to stir the pot as much as trying to look at it from a different angle. I have alot of family in the ranching business and I have nothing but the utmost respect for them. They work hard and of course they should protect their investment.

I don't think anyone here is advocating total eradication of this species. I certainly believe that a hunting season to maintain a viable and healthy population is justified and necessary.

To some degree, there has to be acceptance of so-called wildlife intrusion on private land when we continue to develop in certain species' habitats.

In the lower 48 years ago there was a breed of wolf that roamed the land. However it was not the Canadian Wolf whick is a bigger more aggressive animal that kills for sport, unlike the smaller breed that was more prone to staying remote and only killing for food.

That is absolutely ALL we are trying to fight for, the right to manage them so that all species maintain healthy herds. Why is that so hard for some people to understand?

Raff, I can tell you do.

10 mile stretch of riding on sunday and found 15 wolf kills all on the main road. 6 elk and 9 deer. Imagine what you would find if you actually hiked. Here's a few
