well they do have those high speed servers now.

Ads are spammed throughout forums to pay for the service provided to the customer free of charge. Now that you are charging is there still a need for paid advertising? or is that just beer money? Sever sites out there have a free program and once you pay the ads go away.
If I am paying truthfully the flashing ads are annoying.
Is that easy enough to understand
It also takes up valuable real estate on the page when you are reading the site from your phone.......
I'm trying to keep an open mind to this paying thing but honestly instead of a treadmil I would rather be able to shut the adds off. If you have ever seen idiocracy you would get it about the flashing advertisments. Advertisers were a neccesity to keep the site running, they shouldnt be any longer...right?
I like how you start with your insults right from the start. Makes it nice because now I know the person I'm dealing with.
But my original question has still not been answered. What I wanted to know is why the ads were interfering with your Snowest experience? Or is this just the fact that it's something that was thought about but has no real reason. Like you would rather have a blue background than a white type of thing. Since the ads don't pop up or interfere with you while you browse Snowest. Oh and don't use the "it's the principal of the matter speech" because that's not really an answer to the question.
But the reason I ask this is because unlike what you think. The moderators and admin staff do care what people think about what is going on here.

Some sites such as Thumpertalk.com do give you the option to close the ads if you become a paid member. If you remain a free member you still have access to the ENTIRE site but you deal with the ads.
Since I'm not a member on Thumpertalk (yet anyway) what else do you get with your paid membership and how much is it?
I paid........
After thinking about it nobody's time is free, including Christopher's. I dont like making everybody pay because I think it will be bad for the site but I wont work for free. So...it is what it is.
So can there be a way to shut the ads down as an option or better yet a "mobile" SW site?
Even if 10,000 member pay that is only 100k per year and 1 good full time Sysadmin will cost that in salary alone. That being said users will expect alot more that exuses whenever there is a problem.

funny, i read through this thread and my main thought was, gee, this thread pretty much defines the issue/conflict at hand. (bare with me, i'm generalizing)
1)someone asks a question. one that is pretty straight forward but clearly intend to highlight some of his frustrations, if not slightly rhetorical.
With the cutover to a pay site will we have the "feature" of turning off advertising.
2)a mod responds, missing the point, and wants to know what the issue is (with a bit of an attitude. fairly passive aggressive)
Are the ads in your way? It's not like we are talking about pop ups here, just the same ads located in the same spots they have been for years right? So what I'm I missing here guys, why do you want them turned off when they are not in your way?
3)the OP responds and expresses his frustration with an insult.

4)the mod responds, calling out the insult, issuing one of his own, and definitely popping an attitude. which continues to widen the gap between the mods and users, paying or not. and COMPLETELY missing the point. and yes it is the principle of the matter and if you don't understand that then you are too entrenched on your "side" of the issue.
Rprecision-
I'll take that as you don't have a answer to my question. Which is what I thought in the first place.
Boston Racing-
However I'm still interested to see your reason for wanting to shut the ads off.
Thanks,
Ben

Now this is what I wanted to see, thank you. It has also been brought up for the dial-up users as a way for the site to be faster for them. I'll ask the question and see what happens.
Thanks,
Ben

but i'm a nobody, non payer, at this point. i'm waiting for the dust to settle to see how things turn out. the biggest advantage i see with going to a pay site is it should get rid of the vast majority of the trolls (ie: hitman)

So to follow along with your post I added in all of the posts you referenced, just to make it clear.
Interesting take on the thread when you look at it in your context and read the posts with it. I wonder if Boston Racing feels that I insulted him like you stated. But I will agree with you that the gap between the Moderators and some of the members has become too large. But there are reasons for that that we don't need to drift this thread in order to cover that.

Could you really be so dense as to not notice that this is EXACTLY what has happened around here on a regular basis recently? You are one of the most obvious ones that I have seen, with a bit of attitude instead of an answer on a relatively regular basis. There are others that are noticeable, but I think his explanation was as spot on as you could possibly get.
I'm not calling you names, I'm not saying you're a bad guy, I'm just saying that this is just one example of what is creating a easy to identify barrier between the paid membership & some of us that just can't get over being treated the way that some of you treat us. Just like B.R. I'll surely admit to having an attitude in some posts, but being pissy & obstinate back sure doesn't help things.
