Why is Klim so expensive?

Same reason a divorce is so expensive............Its worth it! haha

The klim bibs and coat are worth every penny. The rest of their stuff is overpriced and not that great of quality IMO.

Simple economics: People will pay it.

Their stuff is hands down the best gear you can buy and you pay accordingly. Keep in mind that genuine GoreTex is a lot more expensive than knockoffs. Thier prices are in line with any other top shelf GoreTex XCR outwear for skiing, mountaineering, etc. Look at any Arcteryx, Mountain hardware, etc and its all in the 400+ range per piece.

There are a lot of cheaper alternatives that are perfectly fine, but only one can be the best.

Deaner, beat me by 2 minute to the punch line:o...I am leaving mine out there anyway:)...I like the way you are thinking.;)

Some of there gloves have some issues but the outer wear is worth every cent. I like staying dry. wet bawls make for a long day

Well im just debating dropping a $1000 on a suit. i sweat my bag off all day and NOTHING can keep me dry and i mean nothing. im just scared im gonna buy it all and still drip sweat all day long, mainly in the arm area.

i had klim gloves last year, they were great untill i touched the pipe for a millisecond and they melted like crack in a pipe.

I paid $1200 for a North Face expidition suit back in 96 and wore it till 02 when I quit sledding. Back then $1200 was like spending 2K on a suit today, but I too wanted something that was guaranteed freekin waterproof and the NFace suit was, 3 layer gortex with taped seems in every layer but it was still $1200 and I questioned that , till I wore it , and this year I'm dragging it out of storage and giving it a wash and gunna wear it again.

Good Deal?

Not to pirate the thread, but what do people consider a good deal on Klim gear? Is 10% off retail and free shipping and handling a good deal or are there better ones out there to be found? Call me a tighty, but when I am going to drop big cash on stuff like this, I like to find the best deal out there. If people have found better deals then the above mentioned deal, let us poor saps know! Thanks! As for the original thread, Klim is the best and that is why I and many others are willing to spend the cash.:D

just wear a few layers so when you get hot you can take a few off. then you have $1000 extra to go on a few more long riding trips.

I don't care for their gloves or boots but the coats and pants are worth every penny

Thats a pretty dang good deal. Klim regulates what the dealers sell it at. No dealer is supposed to say any current year clothing online under retail. They can only sell current year clothing at 10% off at the shows. Non current product can be marked down by 15%. These are all outlined in their dealer agreement. So if you are finding 10% off and free shipping online then you have basically the best deal Klim allows.

Its like in school when there were always the group of kids who needed the "cool" clothes. I can buy Castle at 1/4 of the price and it keeps me warm and dry. It doesn't say Klim, but who am I out to impress??? In two years some other name will be claimed as the best. Most people make around 15$/hour after taxes & 401k. $800 for a set of klim wear on sale is equal to 53+ hours of work. That is 6+ days of work to buy Klim wear. I can think of better stuff to spend 53 hours of work pay on. Just my $0.02.

Yes it is the best. But, why? Let me tell you.
You are paying for Gore-Tex. The only true waterproof and breathable membrane.
You are paying for the best warranty in the industry.
You are paying for countless hours of R&D into product development. Which is why everything performs as stated.
You are paying for quality workmanship. Each item must pass rigorous standards before it can meet both Klim and Gore-tex approval.
