Why do people bail on sledding?

Like it says, some guy's are all for the ride and then when it comes time to go all you get is a list of" I can't go" excuses.
List some of the best excuses you've heard, example:
The cats litter box needs cleaning!;)

well, I blew mine up and with 4 kids, can't justify spending the cash on this 2-$troke. I have to buy window to replace the plywood in our new house:rolleyes: yep, about the same price:eek:

No excuses here! Mine blew up this weekend 10 minutes into the day. Loaded up, took it to the dealer, said "fix it" and I'll pay extra to have it done ASAP! And I have a kid too.

As important as riding is to me, I respect someone putting his families welfare
higher on his priorities than his own recreating.
Hold your head high!

for me, it's all about time... my kids are 7, 5 1/2, and 3, the two boys are getting involved in sports and other stuff (guitar lessons, archery leagues, basketball, football, soccer, baseball, skiing, shooting, and etc.) and guess what, it all happens on weekends, they come first, period, as they get older I'm probably gonna have to bail for a couple seasons at least, not sure how much longer i can divide up my time. priorities are a-changin...

Bonz:

We are living the same life bud!

But you know what? I suspect, like you, I would not change any of it though. Yep the years of getting a new sled every year are over, but that is ok, the kids' stuff will end at some point and then I can spend a few bucks on ME again............

Most of the time it's because my P____Y friends can't handle the shots from the night before. A little puke in the helmet never hurt!:face-icon-small-sho

yup, I've got no problem with it, i love my kids and want them to experience everything i can, i'm in the business of making memories right now, if I have to forgo a few of my own, so what... if I have to bail on sledding for a while I'm getting a bike since I can commute to work on it in the nice months and short weekend jaunts with the wife are easily done... lookin at gettin an HD Electra Glide Classic or maybe a Street Glide with some options in the meantime between my sledding adventures... we'll see how it works out...

lets see..... couple weeks ago a riding bud said "dude.... i did way to much cola  last night/ this morning, havent slept tonight and i just aint gonna make it"......... of course he was the dude with the crew cab pickup, the four place trailer, and the one who got this ride organized ( until this point and time).... there were three of us waiting for him at his shop @ 9:00 ( when we were supposed to leave at 8)when he broke the news... we just stand there and say WTF!!!!!!! we just about put the woop A$$ on this guy

lets see:

got to clean my house
got to go to church
sleds broke
and have to work...

thats about the only ones i have ever used

I'm sleepy, didn't sleep until 2 last night.
It's too cold out(last week it was -32*F out).
. . . Sometimes I think I need new buddies.

Money, vacation, work, wife/gf, it's not a vacation because I have to work getting unstuck, it's not warm enough, it's too close to this day or that day, the running boards fill with snow, the sled uses gas, belts and oil, it's dangerous, the drive out and back is too long.

These are some I have heard at various times from various people. Some are legit but then again some guys just don't put their heart and soul into it like some of us do.

For your group make it where if reservations are made and people are commited to going, they need to pay their share up front to the person that has made the reservations. If they back out and it now costs the other people "X" amount more to go, that person is responsible for that difference. Meaning the full amount.

It's not fair to anyone to make reservation based on a certain amount of people going. If we have 3 people going it becomes a lot more expensive to go then if 5 or 6 were going. It's happened too many times in our group and from this season on it's a pay up front of don't plan on going. That way everyone knows what they are in for.

Now if something comes up where it's life or death, well then it's a different story but 9 out of 10 times it's purely BS excuses.

Yup usually B.S excuses and I hear it every year, same old same old and they are the guy's who always say we should do this more !
Then again maybe trying to find new people to ride with would be easier.
Any one from Fort Mac like to hit the hills or are you happy riding the Snye?

With that picture think how fast or how long it would take to get the helmet off when you have the first indications of that happening. With me I was able to get the helmet off in time but it was close.

my favorite Springsteen line.

"some people just give up livin' and start dying little by little, piece by piece
some guys come home from work at night and go racin in the streets"

I think this is what happens in some cases.

Sad.

Explosive diarrhea, it's a real thing.

The 12.9 grueling miles you have to ride on ungroomed trails to get to some of the best riding in the world. That's 25.8 miles of 4 foot whoops to get to the riding... and the 60miles home with nobody in your truck, 120 miles roundtrip.

Once again, explosive diarrhea.
