Who has cut their running boards?

Who has altered their stock running boards and cut bigger holes in them to allow snow to fall through? How did you do it? Please post a picture!

I have an '07 M8. I used a 2" hole saw to drill 3 holes in each running board. Sorry I don't have pics. This is totally redneck, but it works great and didn't cost me any money.

By the way...that's why I didn't use a set of aftermarkets...money...

I picked up a set of better boards from F-bomb and put those on.
Works great. Zero build up.

Back when I was poor...oh wait, I still am...I took an electrical hole punch and punched holes in my 2002 800 RMK running boards. They turned out pretty good for the most part. It was actually quite easy. You drill a hole from the bottom up then put one size smaller die in the top then in the bottom. By doing so it helped roll the edges up adding some traction. The stregnth of the board was still good. I think the whole cutting holes in the running boards would depend on what type of sled you have. Obviously the aftermarket inserts look better, and work better, but my way was free and it worked pretty well on this particular sled. I'll try and post some pics if you want.

Had my own made , I make a thin cardboard patter and took it to local metal shop that had computer plasma cutter and had them bend 2 inch lip up the tunnel, next time would of went around 4 inch for more strength, need to add something for boot traction down the center, cost $100 and are pretty long.

Holy crap,
I have seen some bad running boards before but man. Some of you talk about money. f.u. boards or snow eliminators are fairly cheap and they look great, and are easy to put in. and who uses a torch to cut the thin alum. in running boards, a retard? a sawzall or air cutter will do it in about 30 sec.

those are some nice looking home-ade running boards! i might think about making something like that sence i jabbed a whole in one side while sidehilling and hit a medal staked on the side of the road...thanks for the pics guys!

if i was to do it i'd use a cutting torch but why? why not install aftermarket boards designed for allowing snow to fall through

An acetylene torch will not cut aluminum, need a waterjet, plasma cutter or a hole saw, sawzall almost anything but a torch. All a torch will do is melt holes not cut.
