Who all have had their 800 blow?

Marcuso

Slim, which sled had the big bore, the zx, or the Rev?? or both?

It was on the 01 ZX. 830 SHR Motor. Someone else was riding it in Cooke in 04 and midrange seized it - My fault, I had the Mag side needle to lean, I was dumb. Then I burnt it down in Cooke again the next season, Again my dumazz fault (Old fuel). Rebuilt final and sold it to my neighbor who loves it, I "De-tuned" it since hes a farmer and kinda cowboys things ;) He loves it and it has been extrmemly reliable and a screamer. Now about 1200 miles on the last build and still going strong.

Stock motors on the 06 & new XP.

Today out for a ride on my '07 Rev 800R. Not even 10 minutes into the ride and heard a funny zinging sound. Shut it off, thought it was seized, went slowly home did a compression test on it and only have 90 pounds both side??? Tick Tock KAAABOOOOOMMMMM???

04 stock 800ho 900 miles no issues
same sled ported. 975? miles stuck/seized due to putty lifting and got into the cylinder.
same motor reported and new pistons 1200? miles siezed once again.

RKT drop in piston setup and mild porting done. still running strong from what I know.

96 summit..modded..squeaked a piston...my fault(jetting)
98 summit 670,.........good sled
00 summit 700,.........got better
01 summit 800,.........even better
02 summit 800..one bud went through 2 engines(year of the bad cranks,gas pigs),.....getting worse
03 Vertical Escape RMK...biggest POS i've ever owned(serves me right for switchin to the dark side)....hit rock bottom
04 summit rev 800,.......got better
06 summit rev 800...best sled i've ever owned..not problem-free though..(solenoid went south),......got way better
08 XP...surpassing my 06 so far as performing,...yahoo

No engines problems ever..and i've been breaking them in hard since the 04!
The Lord has been watching over me:D

07 800r 9xx miles

let it warm up for 5-10 minutes, till rear cooler was nice and warm , then....siezed on me about a mile into the ride yesterday...full throttle, in the pow.

both cyls scored all the way around. not enough compression to run.

will take to dealer tomorrow.

stock motor/exhaust...20 pilots needles raised 1 full clip

05 mxzx800x powertech. 2000 mls .wouldnt start after filling up with gas. after just riding all day. with 360 miles for the day .draged home, pto side no compression ,had 1 day left on 1 year warenty. dealer said it was a 4 corner siezure.i then put egt, pipes, reeds, clutching, and found out this had a huge midrange lean. [the sled, from factory[, no wonder it was getting 15 mpg all day long. next year had 4000 miles on it, and had a major piston meltdown, same cylinder. took the crank bearings also. i put in a brand new shortblock and sold it to my best friends bro.who has so far 800 miles on this year trouble free.since then i bought my first yamaha[apex] and so far love it [i have put over 1000 miles on it in the last 2 weeks] even though it is a heavy tank, im not always wondering when the moter is going to blow up. like when i rode the skidoo.[which was always in my mind].the skidoo was alot better ride in bumpy trails though.

07 Lost on Sat.

Lost the motor on my 07 X on Sat. with 600 miles on it, not sure what went out, spark plug was smashed on he PTO side and coverd with lots of shinney stuff, changed the plug and rode her until the anti freeze came out of here. Strange they don't run on water worth a damn. No clue when I will get it back. Shop is not even open on Mondays

07 800 lost at about 1600miles mag side was wet but the pto side was bone dry. took it into the dealer and still waiting to findout what is going to happen

'04 800 summit. 3000 miles, christmas day. broke ring on pto side takes cylinder and piston. when going back to dealer found out it's had a new bottom end and top end with previous owner. putting it back together this week finally. sure hope it holds together this time.

99 summit X... ~5000 miles NO PROBLEMS what so ever.. "wish" is still riding it!

00 700HM .. good sled sold it after 1500 miles.. no problems..

01 800HM .. recalled piston changed.
broke piton skirt and punched it thru the case total loss.....
1200 miles
other "problems" on that sled were my fault [ mod sled]

03 800HO delaminated carb boot... lost piston/ cylinder. 2500 miles

04 800HO Rev.. lost piston locating ring in revy. ring snagged a port,... 3000 miles... took out a piston/cylinder

04 800Ho rev [ different rev] bought it at 1200 miles with new crank
pistons, because it lost a crank bearing. still running it..

SCARED TO DEATH TO RELY ON A 800R DEEP IN THE BACKCOUNTRY

06 800 threw a rod and blew a softball sized hole through the case/cylinder at about 700 miles last year. About 125 miles on new short block rebuild.

Jesus, you guys are scarring me!

01 800 (Now wife's sled) new pistons @ 600 miles from recall, now has about 2200 with now problems ever, just runs good every time out. MBRP can, jetting and clutching changes

04 800 HO - ran good stock then ported and thing can, jetting, clutching, then new chasis and oil injection delete, and ...... Ran strong until I sold she had about 1700 when I sold it. New owner hasn't called to ask me why it blew up so I'm assuming it's still running.

08 XP 800R - 180 miles, HPS can, ate a belt but we know that's a clutching/gearing problem that I may have fixed, will know next ride. Best sled I've ever owned, just hope the motor stays together like my other doos have.

Friends have three 00 700, two 01 800's, two 03 800 HO,03.5 800HO, 04 800HO, two 07 800R's and none of them have lost a motor.... maybe just lucky. Most of the guys that I know that have lost motors overheated their sleds or were tweaking with fuel and got bit by a lean condition.

truth is the few of us that have problems don't equate to a very large percentage of the sleds built. things happen, just really sucks when they go wrong. have had plenty of other doo's and ride with even more that have never had a motor apart. i doo think my next trail sled will be blue but i really like my summit. good luck everyone!!

1999 summit 670X lost a piston due to detenation (McBride fuel)
1999 Summit 670X seized both pistons (clearance issue on rebuild)
1999 Summit 670X ran strong
2001 ZX 800 broke crank and subsequently destroyed the engine
2003 800 ran strong
2007 XRS 800R lost mag side crank bearing at 597 miles.
2007 XRS 800R new 2008 spec. complete engine only 40 miles on her so far.

I just had my brand new RKT 827 burn a piston at a tad over 100 miles! Don't know why! Kelsey has the pistons and is checking them out to let me know what he thinks!

I had to put my stocker back in! Hope all is well now!

04 800 - 4200 miles, piston edge chipped, messed up head/cylinder
06 800 - 3200 miles, still going strong
08 800 - 680 miles, still going strong (belt eatin' son of a)

First (and only) Doo to date, was an 01 800 I bought used in 03. Had 2400 km's on it when I bought it. Lost the crank the first ride out. Dealer replaced under warranty. Rode very seldom the next few years, only put 800 km's on it, dropped a skirt and wiped the fugger out in Revy a few years back. (Rode Jeepers 670, thanks again man:beer;)
