they gave me a strainer to piss in but have not recoverd the stone yet? i have no idea what im even looking for.

I haven't but, I heard my uncle pass out in the bathroom trying to pass one. I don't think that is something I would want to look forward to. Sorry Guy:eek:

That's funny you posted this topic. I passed one on july 25,2008 it dropped me to my knees, not fun. Months later (Feb) went for a follow up c-scan yep there another one. So went to the Dr.'s on tuesday and they put me on the table and put a scope up you know what to locate the stone and used a laser to blow it up. So here i am waiting to pass the friendly sand particles, at least they gave me some good pills :p I just hope i'm better for the form ride, atleast take it easy.

Been there! I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. First you're afraid you're going to die then you're afraid you're not.

you are dead on on that one!!!!!

my pain came on slow then just got worse was not a bam to the knees thing. told the doc to make my left testical quit trying to run away!!!!! he said yep thats kidney stones right there!!!

Bet it still hurts passing the particals to though.

Don't know what's worse...

I was planning on heading to Guatemala for 10 days in May this year when about 3 weeks before I got one. Bad pain...went to the ER...gave me some good drugs, but no pass. They told me to pee in a strainer and it will pass. Two days later, back in the ER with terrible pain...still no pass.

Urologist gives me the choice...we can either go in and get it (and there's only one way in there!!) or they can strap you to a picnic table in the middle of the jungle...which would you prefer.

So, I am in the hospital prepping for surgery when the nurse starts talking about the tube they are going to leave in. I'm like, WHAT?? "Oh, the doctor didn't tell you?" she says.

Anyway, when they surgically remove kidney stones that get stuck, they are afraid your tube will close off and you won't be able to go pee, so they leave a piece of flexible tubing in there...with a string attached for later extrication :face-icon-small-blu

So, don't know what's worse...the pain associated with passing one, the surgery to have one removed, peeing for two weeks with a string hanging out your **** or the follow up visit where the doc pulls on the string to pull out the tube!!!

Sorry for the details, but I would say pass it natural if you can!!

I was on my way to the hospital for a scheduled surgery. On the way in it hit me while driving. I had to pull over on the side of the road, because the pain was so bad. My wife drove me into the hospital not knowing what it was. The pain kept getting worse and worse. She told me to buck up and not be so nervous about the surgery. Anyways I went to check in for surgery by this time I am sweating and not looking so good. I take my pager and hobble to the ER. I passed out in the waiting room of the er, woke up in the back, where they finally told me I had a kidney stone. Trust me I hold this over my wifes head all the time. It is the worst pain I have ever felt, it is like passing a bowling ball. When you do pass the stone it usually breaks up if you are lucky, and will look like little grains of sand in the filter. Funny how small they are and how much pain it causes. I hope and prey I never get another one.

All I recall is the morphine they gave me when it was blocking.....good stuff!
I didn't feel a thing when it passed several weeks later....I guess it just depends how big it is :beer;;) .......the stone that is.

I have had them around 6 or 7 different times. This last time my doctor gave me a bunch (60 tablets) of oxycotin to use for the pain. I guess I am lucky, they don't usually hurt to pass them, what hurts me is when they are moving in the kidney.

The last time I had a bout that ended in the hospital, the Doctor told me that passing kidney stones is the worst pain you will feel. Followed by gallbladder stones and then giving birth.

A lady I was talking to once told me she would rather give birth again than pass kidney stones again.

Okay, I have a pretty personal question.

A couple of years ago we took our yearly trip to Lake Powell. Mind you, we boat in about 50 miles, set up tents and live on the beach for the week we are there. Anyway, after the bouncy trip in we got all the tents set up and had dinner and settled in for the night (the kids in their tent and anchormom and I in the other). After a failed attempt at "sharing the same part of the air mattress" I started to get this ache down (and I mean really down) in my abdomen. It was annoying at first, but in short order I was on my knees with tears rolling down my cheeks.

I couldn't lay down, sit or stand up. It was knees or die. I couldn't talk and I just kept thinking, "how are we going to get Life-Flight in here to get me out and how is my wife going to drive the boat out of here and get it on the trailer?" I made a couple of trips to the porta-potty tent and said lots of prayers. A few hours later it began subsiding and by morning I was fine.

I figured I had done one of two things: 1 - I twisted the twins up with all the bumpy water and the loose fitting swimsuit, or 2 - I had a stone. Is what I went through what you guys are feeling?

Is there anything that those of us that haven't had this pleasure and don't care to have it can do to prevent it? I still can hear a guy scream because of 1..

Passed one, two still lodged solid in the Kidney. Painful until it gets to the bladder, then you just pee it out. Hope the next two don't decide to come loose while in the back country.
Back pain and my nuts were killing me.

Toridal (sp) IV Works wonders. Oxycotin until it's out.

Hope you're feeling better soon! At least they give you good drugs. :D

I've never had a kidney stone and hope I never have the pleasure. Gall stones were bad enough this last July. Ugh.:eek:

i passed one many years ago and thought i was dying--thought it was the size of a basket ball :eek:ended up about as big around as 1/2 the size of # 8 shotgun shot or a little smaller---:confused:
