White Mnts Snow Repot

Took a trip into the whites on Monday. Conditions from the wickersham dome trail head through to lees and moose creek cabins are good; roughly 16" of soft stuff in most areas with it being a tad deeper in some areas. However there is not enough snow past moose creek cabin to ride. A momemtary lapse of sanity put my riding partner and myself a few miles past crowberry where the snow depth was barely deep enough to x/c ski let alone ride a sled.

Promptly hit a stump that smashed my RMK's front end and dislocated and broke my left arms radius. Fresh out of surgery; thousands and thousands of dollars later; And a destroyed RMK; I figured I better take the time to let everyone know that the whites are ok as long as u stay close to Lees. Dont go past moose creek until we get another 6".

While in the ER I was informed that someone else came in with a shattered knee from the whites. When in doubt play it smart guys. I just ruined my sled and the next 3 months of riding because I didn't use some common sense. Live and learn... this one just happened to be a expensive hard lesson.

Thanks to Evan for making sure i got back to my wife ok.

Sorry about your accident and thanks for the update. Did you have insurance? What year RMK? I might have some parts to help you out if you're rebuilding it out of pocket.

Appreciate the report & sorry to hear about your accident.

Hope you have a quick recovery and back on your sled soon.

Christian, good to hear you are out of surgery and all that. I can help you rebuild your RMK if you want, I like wrenching on sleds. Next time I am out near that cabin I will be sure to put some ace bandages and stuff in their first aid kit.

BTW, wish there was more i could have done, that sucked:(

Let me know if there is anything i can do to help

take it easy

I rode on the Steese side of the Whites, Nome Creak, and there was not enough snow. I fried my new skies and then proceeded to complain like a little girl. If you stay on the trail you might be OK but whats the point of that.
I might try Murphy Dome and the Chatanika river this weekend.

We went into the Colorado Creek Cabin from 57 mile Eliott Hwy last weekend. The trail in was rough but had enough snow. Right behind the cabin, there was an endless field of deep stuff! It was kinda set up and wind-blown in places but overall it was a great trip. It was freakin cold though, 35 below when we left the truck, and it wouldn't start when we got back...
