Which backpack to buy?

I'm in need of a new backpack. I use to keep my shovel in my sled (let's here it guys) but I ordered a new cat seat for my M7 and now need to hide my shovel in a backpack.

The one I have now is a very small camelback pack that I love, but a shovel will not fit. My husband has a dakine heli pro. I am 5'4" and it is too big for me with length being the biggest issue. I am wanting to keep it small but also store my shovel. Pics are worth a thousand words.

Thanks,
Steph

new bca abs pack

The Heli pro is only 20L, I find it VERY hard to believe you can put all the needed survival gear in there. I have the Guide that is 49L and I nearly fill it. I would find a way to get ATLEAST a 20L. Or your taking a big risk on not having survival stuff when you might need it....

I like my True North Adventures backpack. No blatter though if you like that sorta thing. Next will be a ABS bag of some sort.

Only picture I had of my wonderful backside.

I like my HMK. It holds most of me esentials while not being too bulky. It does have a hydration pack option and places for a shovel blade, handle and probe. Thay also come in pink if that's your thing.:D

to answer you question on a small pack that has hydration and holds a shovel this a the pack that i use it is actually a vest the ogio flack jackethttp://ogio.com/product.php?product=68
just enough storage for the basics extra gloves, goggles, radios, gps a few other things i use
its nice cuz you can access things in the front without taking off your pack
great if your not going with abs
abs are nice but pricey
a little backcountry experience, knowledge of snowpack and slope awareness go a long way to stay out of harms way if you cant afford abs or just not going to use them like myself

I would hit some of the snow board shops and find something that is comfortable or if your liking the camel back stuff they make one that will accept a shovel and probe. I forget which model but idsledhead has one and it works great. that being said I would wait to see the new avalanche pack coming or go dakine for a ladies frame :beer;

I bought a Klim backpack....came with hydro pack as well. Nice and small and light. It was about $120.00CDN

Check out Klim. I bought their small one last year....came with hydro pack as well. Nice and small and light. It was about $120.00CDN

Ogio makes some great packs for really reasonable prices. Been using one for 3 years with no problems. Got an ABS Escape 30 for this season. Should have doen that a long time ago but better late than never.

'nother vote for the ogio flak jacket. lots of pockets/storage, place for shovel-handle-probe, hydration, and it comes in a SMALL!

been using the vest for 3 years and it rocks!!!

I have to put in another vote for the Klim pack....it has great little storage compartments, and it does hold your shovel, it's small, light and easy to wear. :D
