whats your worst accident

I experienced the worst day of my life on the hill ever. Happened this afternoon. I watched one of my best friends climb hill and as he crested the top he got a little air and tapped his brake to get the nose down a little. BEFORE !!! any one questions he has been riding for the past 25 years and is one of the best riders I know. The snow was soft and when he landed the force flipped the sled and it landed upside down throttle was pinned and his arm got sucked into the track. Before we could get the sled shut off the damage was done. We had to unbolt the suspension to free what was left of his arm. He was shoulder deep into the tunnel. We performed immediate first aid to stop the bleeding until the helicopter arrived. He was life lighted today to SLC. I just received a text that he lost his arm from the elbow down. Machinery can be fixed ...... Please be careful. I know that accidents can happen. After seeing the fear in my wifes eyes tonight. Not sure when I am going out again ... If ever...

Powderhound- prayers for your buddy. That is sad news indeed.

My only story is pale in comparison, but ranks as one of my worst days ever. Last January we were riding an area that was wind packed and the trail was whooped out. Visibility was crap, the wind was blowing like a mutha, and it was snowing. My companions were riding faster than I was comfortable with, and I should have backed off. But I had a guy behind me and I didn't want to slow him down so I was riding faster than I should have on whoops- I'm not good on whoops. I hit one that was off camber and it threw my sled up on it's side- I supermanned off at 30+MPH and hit the rock hard trail. Broke 2 ribs- through my Tek Vest- and busted the visor on my helmet. I knew my options were Lifeflight or ride. I opted to ride. It's hard to ride with broken ribs- I couldn't use the arm on that side, so my steering was really compromised. There were areas in the trail that were narrow and I couldn't turn. My fiance had to come back and help multiple times. Or my sled would overheat but I was in no shape to go off trail and so I'd shut it down and wait for him to come back for me and he'd ride it through the snow to get it cooled back down. I don't think we ever got over 10MPH, it was about all I could do. I don't know how long it took to get back to the truck but it was the longest most miserable ride of my life- I was freezing to death from the high winds plus I was shocky, and it felt like a burning hot poker was shoved into my ribs. It took 9 weeks to heal enough to ride again. I'm more careful now, and can't imagine having some of the injuries posted up here. Makes a couple cracked ribs sound minor.

Well a couple of years ago we went down to stanley idaho to ride with himark rec. It was spring time and we were parked right off the highway, well i was the first one ready to go. So i was out in a field jumping a rode gap. Well about the third time i hit it i decided to grab a big hand full. The snow was as hard as concrete so we i came off the jump i ended up flyin through the air straight up and down. I tried smashing the brake in the air to bring the nose down but that didn't work so I bailed. I over cleared the landing by about 50 feet. The sled landed right one the back of the tunnel and started flipping and ended up upside down in the creek. Well while the sled was crashing into the creek i was slidding on my butt across the snow and guess where I ended up. IN THE VERY COLD CREEK. So I walked back to the trucks which were only 100 yards away. I told the guys my sled is in the creek, at first they didn't believe me and I said look at me i'm dripping wet. Well we got it out and the rails and tunnel were folded and the steering post was smashed into the gas tank. Thank good for insurance. Well come to find out the only person that seen it happen was a park ranger driving down the highway. If anyone has danger zone 2 there is a segiment in the extra's called ryan's creek and you can watch my dumb asre in the creek. Funny ****.

Hahahaha! That segment was hilarious, I laugh just thinking about it.

Thank you for posting...I proves to all us all respect is always in order. These things CAN hurt us or kill us. Prayers for your friend and his family. He is lucky to be alive considering the remote areas we ride.

Damn, I hope his rehabilitation goes well. I've played out a scenario like that in my head before.

Did he not have a tether?

I am still a little messed up. I will post the story tomorrow. Look in general section... It will be titled thether

Hey guys theres some good ones up here. So last winter we rode all day having a blast hitting drops jumping hills etc.... soo we got pretty tired. I decided to make a jump before a drop, it turned out well me an my friend hit it several times, However he has a yamaha apex so hit landing marks were huge, i got more reckless and tried clearing all of them an going too the left of his landing mark but i landed directly half in and double bounced side ways for about 10 ft. i decided too bail but i snapped the reverse leaver in my leg and cartwheeled 30 ft down the mtn.

Once i stopped i flung both my legs down and layed upright on the hill, my friend came by an asked if i was ok, i pulled up my right pant leg and my knee was bleeding pretty good but it was stitch able so no biggie, i said ah im ok , then i pulled up my left and i had a 1.5'' wide hole in my knee and it was poring blood. ended up wrapping it up and sitting down to ride my sled out .... it was about 70km of riding back too the trucks and then 2 hours too the hospital. i was busted up for 2 months.
