whats your worst accident

May 31st this year, snotty spring snow. Went to climb out our normal shortcut and got sideways somehow.... and out over the rocks I went. Fell 15' onto a snow pillow and then fell another 15' into a crack/ crevass. The damage to the sled was amazingly minimal, about $500 and lots of "moving parts back". Broke a bone in my right hand and ended up with a piece of bone being pulled from my left elbow. Not that bad of injuries but I was a pile of POOOOOO for a while. lol

Had to dig a 4' chunk out to get my sled out.

The sled following me came over a hill on trail, right after I lost it on that hill, took his front bumper into my full face helmet as I was getting up. Broke my skull above bridge of my nose, crushed right eye socket, nose & roof of my mouth. Broke my collar bone & left thumb also. Ambulance, life flight & several weeks in hospital later all turned out pretty o.k. That was in 95, didn't get back on a sled again till 98. I ride just as hard (or harder) as ever, but I'm always the last sled in the line now.

Here's mine. 08 m1000 nightfire with only 400 miles on it:( Was sidehilling when i got sucked into a tree well. Hit some branches and knocked me off and at the same time the branches spun the throttle block around on the bars leaving the sled at 3/4 throttle. Sled shot up out of the tree well, did a big arch up and then down the hill and hit the only boulder in the valley at about 50 mph. Sled was a total loss

I'm not braggin' about it. I'm not proud of it. Just stating the facts here, but when you have the skills that have... you just don't crash at all:D:D:D

The funniest wreck I've ever seen...

3 of us were riding dirt bikes, I was on an old YZ250 trasher bike, Luke was on a nice KX250 and my friend Eric was on an old hashed out RM125

We were riding in a state owned gravel pit where they pile up large piles of gravel according to size etc

Luke and I were climbing the largest pile of gravel, we'd have to approach the pile in 2nd gear and pop the front end up a bit then slam the throttle to do the climb, because the angle was steep and the pile of gravel very soft..

Eric however couldn't climb it, his 125 didn't have the power and his rear shock was blasted out so it pogo'd everywhere he rode.

Well after much heckling and berating him for not being able to climb that large pile of gravel he finally snapped and lost all common sence.

Luke and I were parked and BS'in, letting the bikes cool a bit when Eric goes way, way back from the pile..he does the staredown for a bit (Luke and I give eachother a look like wtf??) then he pins the throttle!!

He's grabbin gears and heading in a straight line for that gravel pile, Luke and I start waving our arms frantically at him trying to get him to stop the madness...were like is he really going to do what we think he's gonna do??

Sure enough, he hits that gravel pile going as fast as that stupid little 125 could carry him, and magically the bike did not climb the pile as he musta been thinking it would. Instead the front tire dove deep into the soft gravel, the exhaust pipe then tried to dive into the pile as well but instead got smashed into the engine and sprayed gravel skyward in a tinny crash...

Eric did however manage to climb that pile, but first he managed to crush in the top of his fuel tank with his "boys" and bruise his thighs on the handle bars.

He layed in a fetal position 3/4 the way up the gravel pile for a good 20 minutes, I fell off my bike in gut wrenching laughter

funniest thing I've ever seen, just wish my words would do it justice.

He would later go to the doctor, as his "boys" were now the size of a pair of grapefruits...2 weeks on ice would follow.

Brutal!! Glad you're okay!

I am not sure which accident was worse....my head on collision doing about 120 KM per hour or falling into a 70 foot deep ice crevasse and almost killing myself. On both occasions my sleds were write offs. I think the crevasse had to be worse, just because when you are by yourself, in the pitch black for over 2 hours, 70 feet in a hole, in ice cold water, it is not a good feeling.
Can you say hypothermia!?! Even though is was August long weekend and hot up top, the water at 70 feet down was ice COLD!

Luckily never had any bad injuries but have had a few lingering ones. Several years back we were headed to the grill for lunch and picked up fresh groomed trail for the last 5 miles. My bibs had gotten a little damp from exertion and so I had the sides unzipped and was standing up doing 60 + mph. I got a ways ahead of everyone else so I decided to wait. I eased over to the edge of the trail where the "slop" from the groomer was and grabbed brake. The slop had frozen and I stopped way faster than expected. I end up flopping onto the hood and can't seem to let go of the brake lever. I then slide down the hood and into the snow, wrenching my shoulder something fierce. I thought I had gotten away with it but one of the guys saw it. My shoulder hurt for 2 years after that.
Also had a dislocated wrist from whacking a rock and taking out a trailing arm ( same sled)

april fools day 2008.. a bad day to ride!

Went for the "last ride of the season" on April fools day last year. Rode were we always ride at rabbit ears. The day was perfect, new snow, birght sun & dark goggles! By the end of the day the clouds rolled in, I was tired & light was flat. Tried to side hill around a creek a different way & stuffed the dragon in the creek/ravine. Next thing I know I wake up face up in the snow. My son helps me up, I go to turn my head straight & here a crunching/grinding sound in my neck. My head is now facing straight ahead & but will not turn or move at all. I ride the sled back about 5-8 miles to the truck, ride back to Boulder. 3-4 hours later I walk into Boulder community hospital. They figure I am some dumb *** with a stiff neck! The doc hears my story about a crunchy sound, slaps on neck brace on & orders a cat scan. Turns out I broke my C-2 Vertebrae all the way through. I should have been dead or a quadrapleagic. (I was a dumb *** all right). My head had whip lashed so far forward that my helmet broke the upper buckle on my Klim togwotwee bibs as it slammed into my chest! The whole left side of my chest was purple from the helmet impact. I am 55 & don't flex that well! I Spent 11 dys in a halo, then had surgury with c-1, c-2, c-3 fused together with titainium strips & screws. The bad news is I lost about 50% of my side to side movement in my neck forever. The good news is by the end of the summer I was back on my dirt & road bikes. I went riding last friday at the "ears" and skied Copper sat & sun. Now on my dirt bike & sled I wear a Leatt brace. I am convinced if I would have had the Leatt on I would not of broken my neck. I also now carry a Spot emergency locator.
