What's going on at Togwatee?

Is it better with Aramark or not?
Heard the previous kitchen manager is back, food should get better!:beer;
What about the guides? Parts and rentals?:face-icon-small-fro

First off...ive had nothing but great experiences at Togwotee...until this year. I went there last week completely aware of the snow conditions and i knew they werent gonna be as epic as last year this time. Anyways thats beyond the point because riding turned out to be awesome! It didnt help any that i was having sled issues the first day but i headed back to the rental shop to see if they had some parts for my sled, i knew they had a ton of parts layin around for cats last year...not the story this year...the new company that bought the lodge sold ALL the parts...so jackson or dubois was the closest which is nothing new to most people. Then the battle started i wanted to rent a sled because i was sick of dealin with mine so i went back again to the rental shop with intentions of renting the rest of the trip for a half day each day. Got it all set up then go back in the next morning ready to get the sled and was told by the same worker that i couldnt take the sled out with my buddies i had to go with a guide and pay more yet....i was like wtf...what are my other buddies supposed to do go ride on their own??? Of course the worker was like...well they can ride with you and the guide if they pay another fee since they are using their OWN sleds. So after about 10 mins of complaining that i just wanted to rent one and go with my buddies to the same areas we always play in they wanted nothing to do with me and said i could just cancel out of the sled....so there i sat with no sled. I spent the next day and a half runnin down to dubois tryin to find what i needed...got lucky and actually did (suprise for those of you who know how tiny the cat shop in dubois really is). So now that i was off and running again me and my 2 other fellow riders had a guide still set up for the next day that they would not let us cancel out of...Reluctantly we went with the guide and paid...bad idea...only place he took us must have been the "secret untracked place" all the other guides had taken riders to earlier in the day to steal our pow..haha. After riding with a guide for that lousy half day made me realize i will never ever pay someone to ride in front of me "supposedly taking us somewhere good". We went out the next 3 days on our own and had some of the most fun ive ever had out at tog..fresh untracked pow..anywhere from about 3.5-4.5'...good early season at least. Long story short.......Tog has a lot of new policies....gotta cancel rentals a week in advance...gotta get out of reservations 30 days in advance...food hasnt changed at all..still really good and really expensive...and the red fox still serves cold budwieser for 3.25. :beer; now im not givin them a bad rep or anything just be aware of some of the changes..

ARAMARK-Good for sledders or not?

I had heard there were some changes, didn't want spread anything not having been out yet this year. Parts have always been a down fall for me out there since I switched to Ski-Doo, guess that applies to all know matter what brand now. It was also a plus being hooked up with Carter, if I had problem & needed parts, he would usually manage to pull a rabbit out of the hat. I can think of probably 3-4 instances :beer;(maybe more):beer; over the years that he would have what I needed the next morning when he arrived at the lodge. I don't know if you're ever going to get that kind of service there now. Got our reservations fro the 27th - 2nd, I'll have more insight after that, going to give them a chance to impress or turn to another location.:eek:

"ARAMARK can't fu@k up the snow conditions", but they certainly affect my decision to use their facilities in the future.:brokenheart:

Exactly..i know tog is out in the middle of nowhere and its never easy gettin parts..and it sucks that the cat dealer in jackson shut down. However i know theres a couple ski doo and a polaris dealership down there possibly even yamaha. Heres my question...what is the lodge on the left side of the road headed up the mountain from dubois? Is it lava mountain? It looked decent and by now im sure they have more snow further down the mtn.

It is lave mountain lodge. Really nice place. Then you have the sawmill up on Union pass. Real classy lodge. I heard something like the lineshack is not answering their phone, but that is also a good spot.

Yea that's lava. I was in there last yr and had lunch and at least the resturant was a nice place. Seems the food was a touch $$, but it was very good so I didnt care. Selections were definitly more in line w/sledder crowd as oppose to Tog's resort like menu..

Yep, Lava Mountain on the way up, Turpin Meadow/Heart Six another 5mi. or so past. Last I knew Hatchet's still closed, Bible camp?
Ski-Doo parts in Jackson/cycle & saw or possibly Crooked Creek.
Polaris in Dubois & Jackson. Heard Racin Station closed.
Don't really know about the Yamahas, and 95% of them Phazers from Togwatee any how.

Which guide did you have? everyone I have delt with has been nothing but a class act.and riding behind them they are pretyy good riders so unless they got new guides then i'm not sure where your coming from. does anyone no if theres new guides?

A friend of mine was four wheeling up at Union Pass this past summer and was saying crooked creek closed down. Is that seasonal or did they shut the doors for good?

I am heading out there on Friday this week. The reservations are handled out of Phoenix AZ now. I called to modify my reservation and attempted to book a guide but they said that none were available. Having been there many times before, including over X-mas, I didn't believe them. So, I called the lodge and spoke to them directly and booked a guide for next week. Carter retired this year due to a bad shoulder. That's too bad, he was fun to ride with.

For the last 7 years I have had very positive experiences with the guides. Even in poor snow years they have taken us to find the best snow available at the time. To me, that is one of the nicest things about Tog and one that keeps me coming back.

Togwatee Guides +++++++

Togwatee guides have never been an issue, some of the others???? (Won't get on that subject) Bad snow conditions are why you want a guide, they'll get you to some sweet hidy holes. If you really want some challenges, get Bob(nicknamed him Barker)in the trees - can't remember his last name?
Carter retiring because of :face-icon-small-winshoulder? Talked to him the other nite (Sat. 21:00) @ home, shoulder was never part of are conversation.

hmmmm

Aramark doesn't really effect the riding.....
Just don't bring your junker sleds out - do a little tune up before you come, parts are limited, nothing for vintage sleds.
Guides know what they are doing, don't be confused....In my experience they can find great snow any day of the year.
If you're on the Package, guides are included - and if you rent, guides are included; BUT personal sleds not on package pay $59 per person to go with guide.

Carter has had a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder for some time now. Last year he could not raise his arm above his shoulder. He was still able to ride, but it was sometime painful and was an issue in some areas where he needed full strength. Last season he said he was up for one more season, but I guess not. Maybe I'll see him next week. I will be riding with Bob next week.

Bob is a great guide and he knows the area the back of his hand .and trust me you will get your moneys worth with him be prepared because he's no candy *** i promise you will be riding fresh powder and you will be beat at the end of the day

Another great guide they "had" went by Pup, can't recall his actual name. Big, blonde cornfed guy. He was great with our group on 2 consecutive rides. Don't know if he's still up there or not.
