So i am toying with the idea of Buying a cat and putting a pump gas turbo on it, i currently ride a xp but i think i would like to get my feet wet with the boost thing on a cat, from what i understand they are holding up real well if "set up correct". My question is, is there one year over another to stay away from as far as a stock sled goes. I wont be able to buy a new one and then do the turbo. I was hoping to find a sled that is a couple years old and go from there. Any help would be appreciated very much.

The 09 is the most proven and easiest to tune. I wouldn't go any older than that or you would be just as well off with a new stock sled.

the 09 is 22lbs lighter than the 08-electronic reverse

also the 09 has a power claw track, which is great, 07-08 AC shaved off 8 lbs with the new skid, but the 09 is 30 lbs lighter than the 07. I had a 09 m1000 with full SLP and PC5 it was great , now i'm running a TM8 with a D&D 901 big bore plus boondocker RG/PG turbo and this TM901 rips.

certainly the 2009

The 2009 is simply the best option for boosting, no head changes etc...
get the shock revalved for a better ride and have fun!

If you are set on buying an older sled 2009 is as old as I would go. The 2010's are doing good as well. The tubo builders have them all figured out as well. Some will change the head some won't. the 2010 has the HO engine which gives you the extra HP. Now if you have the bucks you can put the Big bore in and pick up some more HP like mentioned above or you can go Race Gas and know you made the right choice

Thanks for all the input fellas. I had lunch today with a guy who says his 2010 is runnin sweet and also said 09 would be a great choice as well. Where i do most of my riding in my home state of utah i dont know that i could justify the need of a bb and turbo. i really just want the turbo for the short steep climbs ya come across boondockin and the occasional long pulls we come across.... ok...ok i really just want a turbo cause they are a blast period!!!

If money is an issue the 2010 m8's are holding value really well and the 09 is getting cheaper so I would go with the 09, but only if its a money thing. Make sure you get a complete turbo kit with everything and save some money in case you need to go to a dealer for help.

If it's an older sled you want, then the 09 is it. I'm running an 09 on 9 psi boost, love it!!! Don't get a straight pump gasser though. Go with a race gas or a race/pump set up. Better to have and not want, than want and not have.

There are still some places around UT and WY that have holdover 2009 M8's left ..

IMO, if you are buying an M8 and you can find a regular one, buy that instead of the Snopro .... the Snopro package is a gimmicky ripoff. If I had it to do over again I would have bought the regular non-snopro version.

But, when you're buying a holdover, you gotta kinda take what you can get.

I would go with the race-gas kit. You can still run regular pump fuel, but you can turn up the boost when you want it. I think it will hold it's value better on resale, and you will probably get an extra year or two out of it without feeling the need to upgrade for more HP, just turn up your boost and run higher octane :)

I am running Twisted Turbo's race gas kit on an M8 and couldn't be happier... I came off of a stock XP too.

Hey powderpilot, any regrets on switching from the xp to the cat? I like my xp and dont want to sell it if i dont have to, was hoping my wife would let me sell hers and she could ride the xp but she said NO WAY!!!! So i am down to turboing the xp or trying out the cat. im getting ready to pull the trigger soon (i hope) and i appreciate all the opinions and advice so far, thanks. The vib i am getting is 09 or newer so that has already saved me some home work.

Call Josh at Precision Performance In Idaho Falls. They had some standard 09 holdovers for right around 8k. 208-529-0520
