2011 arctic cat m8 LOW miles

Hey guys, going to look at another m8. This one came up for sale local to me and only has 866 miles on it. The guy is a forestry worker and only used it for transportation from site to site. It is in great condition as you would expect with only a few scratches and one small crack in the hood from weaving through trees. I looked over it and did a compression test (135psi on both cylinders cold). I did notice a few tiny drops of water on the ends of each spark plug when i did the test but shrugged it off as condensation. It fired up 3rd pull and seemed to run good however it settled into an idle around 1400rmp. This seemed slightly low to me as shouldn’t they idle closer to 1900? Anything to be concerned about? Also I believe it sat for quite a while , obviously being such low miles so hopefully that doesn’t have any opposite negative effects. The oil light flashes as well so I believe the sensor is sticking from what I have read online. He is firm on $4000cad ($2900usd). Thoughts?

Drain & flush the DD; Might as well change the bearing while your at it, the original ones were prone to failure. Years of condensation in the DD could spell failure.

For 4000 there are quite a few decent newer sleds out there that will handle better and have fewer issues (DD and Secondary). 2500 Cdn is going rate in our area for a perfect M-series and they still aren't selling. Have seen quite a few Proclimbs with updates and good condition for under 4000.

Yes I have looked at a few newer ones but honestly I love the old M chassis. Theres not much I can do on a pro climb chassis that I can’t do on an M (im an average rider at best) and to me the M chassis actually feels lighter. If I was to jump up in chassis’s I have to say I would probably go with a 2016 or 17. That is just not in the budget at the moment as I am actually buying 2 sleds for myself and gf. Also currently looking at a 2011 m8 limited with 2300km for $3500. Both sleds seem to be in great shape but just a few concerns as stated above. DD doesn’t concern me too much as I am very particular with maintenance and the secondaries on both sleds have had rollers upgraded.

This sled is 17 years old and has 5156 miles on it. It will go everywhere a $8500 plus sled will go. If I was to sell it for what fair market price is and then needed it I would have to rent at $500 per day. In one season of our average riding it would cost $6000. to rent verses keeping it.
Pay a fair price for a good used sled and keep it in good mechanical condition and enjoy it.
