The other thing to consider as well .... greenies aren't the only ones who are pusing the wilderness bandwagon, super rich land owners who own land bordering public lands contribute heavily to this too .... so to them its basically like they're buying massive tracts of public land for a discount price the only caveat is they have to allow other humans to hike on certain parts of it.
This is why every time when I drive through Wyoming and see one of those bull**** "If you enjoy wide open spaces thank a rancher!" signs I want to puke. "Ranching" doesn't even exist in Wyoming anymore because all the land has been bought up by foreigners (even public land) and shut off to everyone. Its a crock.
