ok nevermind what i said about the rich paying more is that really is true i'm only 15 and obviously don't know everything i just heard my dad talking to a friend about that and how a lot of them are cheating there taxes (again i don't really know if its true). I aso heard that alot of the offshore drilling people want to do could cost more than it would gain and take around eight years to start seeing the full results and during that whole time we could of gotten a more long term solution. and there is also environmental effects but again i'm 15 and don't know a lot (i would do more research if i could vote)

Well I find you quite impressive at 15. I have 4 step kids 19, 18, 16 and 11 and its always refreshing to hear your thoughts and prospective.

One thing to think about is oil prices have dropped big time just because we are talking about drilling so we are already seeing the effects now. I'm also not aware of any big oil spills due to off shore drilling and 75% of the oil polution in the ocean today is from natural seepage.

Great to caht with you, you have a bright future. Eric

thanks you spelled chat wrong:D

No more bandaids. Solar, wind and fuel cells are the answer. Jimmy Carter was bright and honest enough to see this. One of the first things Ronald Reagan did when he assumed office was remove all the solar panels off the roof of the whitehouse. Now that was noble. General Electric only invests in what will be sucessful. They are now a major provider of wind power. Take that 10 Billion a month we are using to blow holes in the soil of Iraq and give tax credits to Americans for alternate energy purchases.

You planning on putting a solar pannel on your sled? I need race fuel! I agree with all of that but you also have to DRILL, DRILL, DRILL, NOW!!

Eric, drill ,drill, drill is just delay, delay, delay. We need to bite the bullet now. There is absolutely no excuse for needing oil except for aircraft and snowmobiles.

We have to drill, drill, drill right now because all of the advancements you bring into the picture are no where near being ready. I don't know about the rest of you, but I do not want to pay $4/gallong for another 5 years. I've been working directly with companies such as Sea-West(windmills) for 8 years now. Our problem will not be solved over night. We should drill until the advancements show up and are reasonable. Sending $700 billion/year for oil to other nations is quite a bit worse than spending $10 billion/year on the war...don't you think? Invest in GM, the new electric car is coming:)

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

You need to drill now, because we will always need oil, even if it's just to make plastic. If you drill in the deep ocean, and it takes 10 years to see oil, then maybe we'll avoid a crisis 10 years from now, but if you don't I guarantee you we will have a crisis in 10 years. If the idiots had started drilling 10 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess were in now. You realize that a lot of the rise in the cost of oil is due to speculators. Speculators buy and sell based on the future. And, if all they see in the future is short supplies, then they drive the price up. If we get busy developing future supply, well then the speculators see abundant supply in the future and lower prices. Cause and effect, action and reaction. It's the capitalist way. It really is the way the speculation market is suppose to work. It rises prices early to force a earlier reaction to a predictable problem. We just hate paying, to be told we're screwing up.

I see wind, solar, and geothermal in our future. But, they all have drawbacks. Some due to red tape, and or environmentalist meddling, others are technical issues that need to be solved, and some are just the shear amount of material we are talking about. We need 4 terawatts (trillion watts) of energy, that's more than 4 million wind generators, which would cost about $8 trillion dollars. That's why it takes so long to implement, it's huge. The idea should be to invest in homegrown power and fuels, so we stop buying from countries that hate us. Then sell that knowledge to other countries. We don't want to be caught having to buy the know how from someone else.

I say do this, and we won't have to send $700 billion a year out of country, we can keep it here, creating jobs that mostly can't be exported. We could employee a lot of people with $700 billion a year.

I completely agree with this.... seems there is major profit potential here too.

why is this even a debate? (re oil conservation etc.)

it is a mistaken premise...that is the Dims are trying to make t a choice, oil or alternative...

Here is the winning campaign slogan, whomever picks it up will win by a double digit margin...(obviously prediction with no validation)

We are America! We can do it all!!! it is not either/or, "D" ALL of the above!!!!

Different people and different locations for Oil, Nuke, wind, hydro etc. do them all, control our own destiny!!

Am surprised no one has commented on my personal favorite quote from McCains speech...he stated he would veto ear marks and name the politicians who put them in there!!! that is awesome hope he does so!!

Additonal campaign slogan that would work well...

Said by McCain in a speech or something...

"Obama and the Democrats want to make this about Palin and Obama, two thoughts here...That means they agree, they cant compete on experience and plans with me...Second thought...if they want it to be about Palin and Obama, they will get their chance, but not in 2008!!"
