what is value of an 04 rev with a blown motor

I have a chance to pick one up and I am completely undecided. I like the chassis but a new motor is going to be close to $3,000 installed. There are very few used 800 motors around and none in Canada. After the new motor is installed, the sled is worth about $4,500

AM I way off on my math or is a rolling chassis only worth $1,500 max? Probably less because most people don't want to go through the hassle of fixing an older sled. Seems low for a decent sled.

Even if it had a new motor in it you will never get 4500 out of it. You can pick up a 08 xp for 5000. If the sled ran then it is still only worth 3000 IMO

agreed, if you would have happen to have a motor lying around then it might be worth it. but probably not.

If case and cylinders are in tact I would buy it and throw RK Tek's drop in kit in.

Those 2 things are EVERYTHING you need to get that motor screaming. Granted that is doing the labor yourself but really with a shop manual which is free and some patience you could do that easily before the snow flies.

Even if you have to add 2 new cylinders you could find both of them for $500.

The veiws expressed on here just blow my mind...

1. Cubbby & Shawn- You need to take into account where this guy lives. Canada... Out west in the mountains, a running 04 may go for 3k+ US. I'm in MN, and these sleds are going for $4-4,800. Easily that plus more in Canada.

2. IMHO buying any crank other than a factory reman from BRP is counter productive. I work for BIG JOHN and he's offering them for $595 trued, packed with isoflex and seals (shipping to canada, add $20).

3. Knee Deep, You gotta tell us more on the motor. Define "blown"
cyinders. One good, one bad, both good, both bad? If they're bad, is it usable as a core? Mainly, the cases cracked at all? Too many factors in play to decide a "fair price" w/o knowing these details...

4. Knee Deep, this sled is more than a roller. Roller would not come with: stator, pickups, flywheel, recoil, primary, carbs and intake, exhaust and such... I would say depending on the condition of the "motor" $1500+/-
but that also depends on the overall condition of everything else...X or adrenaline, track length/condition...

5. If you buy the sled, I have a rebuilt longblock from my 04 summit I parted out this summer for sale. I have no problem shipping to Canada. BJ rebuilt the motor for me last year and it only has one trip out west on it, maybe 300 miles. Nothing was wrong with it to need a rebuild, just preventative maintnence since I PLANNED on keeping the sled for a couple more years.

thanks for the replies guys. I ended up walking away from it. Someone else was willing to pay $1,800. The motor was completely grenaded, crank + cases + cylinders all gone so it was going to need a complete engine.

With all the messing around, I would have had $4,800 into an 04, 144 decent condition sled with 6,000 km on it. IMO, not worth the effort. I could spend the same for a clean 04 with no hassles.

Seems like a shame that a decent sled like that is worth so little when the engine goes. Too many guys looking for the same engine and they are pretty valuable. The guys with 800 Dragons have this gloomy future.
