Last year I put the solid motor mounts on my 09 m1000 to help with belt issues and this year I couldn’t handle the vibration and the thought of cracking my bulk head and decided to pull the mounts off and put new factory mounts back on and add a bottom PTO mount and bump stop. After pulling the old motor mount plate off I found a nice surprise on my bulk head. I’ve heard about this issue but thought it can’t happen to me but I’m another sledder that has a cracked bulk head from adding the solid motor mounts!!! The best part is we are planning to leave on a new year’s sledding trip in 5 days. Not easy finding a welder that can weld aluminum in this part of my country over CHRISTMAS!!!! FML some days!!!!! Thanks a lot STM!!!!
Next question if I can find a welder do I need to pull my engine so he can weld on the bulkhead or will I be okay welding the cracked weld and bulkhead with my engine still in the sled? I won’t fry any electrical stuff?

Thanks
Joe
Hope everyone else is having a better Christmas!

Very interesting. We are working on a 2010 M8 completely stock with the bulkhead cracked like that. Prior to this M8 and your picture I have never seen them cracked there before. (without being wrecked)

MBMS- sled has never been jumped or have i hit anything put mounts in about 800kms and everything was fine then. this has been my first new sled so has been looked after.

ALEXHACK- i will do that thanks!

i also noticed the front mount is cracked also right where they welded the bracket on the back side by throtle bodies

My 07 m8 was just like that. To go on ur trip take a small drill bit and drill a hole at the end of the crack. this will stop it from cracking further. I drilled holes and put pop rivets in the bottom edge as well, and welded it up. im sure if you drill the small hole you will be fine for you trip. Just get it welded up when you get home. Good luck

Joe, I was not suggesting you had crashed or abused your sled...I have been around alot of M series and just suprised to see another crack just like the one we are working on after never seeing them crack there before. Our sled starting blowing belts, noticed the motor mounts were damaged and upon changing plate crack was discovered. Sounds like there are a few more out there like that.

What did you mean by changing the plate? you mean the plate that holds the motor mounts? You can buy those round mounts seperate.

i dont know why but my m1000 is very hard on engine mounts also. every year i have to change the pto side plate mounts and the top mag side mount.
last year i put an extra mount on the bottom of the engine on the pto side as well as the linderman mount
so with 6 mounts holding the engine there is increased vibs but i have no belt issues and it runs great. i would just stick with cats mounts. just get the mounts for a 2011 m1000 and they are all stiffer than the 09 and older m1000's. with he extra mounts i have added i dont notice any cracks so far. but anything stiffer than the cat green dotted rubbers are way tooo hard.

yes we change them individually all the time but for warranty work you have to change the whole plate. Another example, factory warranty new cylinders, Cat Care replates.

Thanks,
Woody

all you need to replace the actual rubber mounts from the mounting plates is 2 sockets and a vise. i would use either red or green loctite for installation just to make sure. they do come out stiff but those with no presses a vise is more than sufficient.

STM motor mounts

Hello, i have a 09 M1000 and change my motor mounts this summer to STM. After 50 km i just have a visual check i motor area and there it was, the crack. Just the same as yours.

My 2007 M1000 after 2 years had cracked all the way up to the top of the bulkhead and no warranty. I purchased a 2009 chassis and tunnel combo and fixed the problem?? I should look at the new chassis and see if any new cracks in it. I did land on a HUGE rock and this Im sure is what cracked it on the old chassis or started it cracking, comletely shattered the secondary, But was able to ride it out.KOOL HUH!! NOT!!!:face-icon-small-sho

yeep looks all too familier.... your better off buying a new bulkhead, had mine welded, worked good for about three days when it cracked right beside the weld.....the guy who did he knows his chit thats for sure.....mine was from stress over time. hope it lasts till the end of the season then im gonna buy another bulkhead and start over......on that note, DONT BUY A USED BULKHEAD EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! already made that mistake once!!!!!

I happen to have a brand new in the box M1000 bulkhead for sale if any of you guys are interested. Let me know.

When you have a bad motor mount can you visually see the mount tore or are you looking for lots off motor twist on the stand when hitting the gas.I have 2500 miles on my c/f 1000 wondering if they should be replaced

yes the rubber will be torn or cracked and you can see it. sometimes the rubber is not cracked but pulled away from the metal. just do some prying around and you will find them if they are screwed.

hey guys so i got a local weld to do some work for me and changed ALL the mounts out to new ones, even the linderman mount was torn thats was just on season on that! i did buy a new PTO motor mount plate just bc my old one with the stm mounts was alittle beat up after pushing them out. but we did get the sled back together in time for our trip out west and everything worked good i must say i wish i wouldn't have been so scared to tare my sled apart and do the bottom PTO mount and bumper stop last year bc my motor does not move anymore and me and the brother do not have issues with pulling strings anymore imagine that!!!!
