weight to hp comparisons 2012 cats vs 2012 RMK

rmk...

141.2 hp @ 7900 RPM
143.2 hp @ 8300 RPM
142.4 hp @ 8400 RPM

With 93 oct ethanol fuel set for non ethanol

142.9 hp @ 7800 RPM
146.7 hp @ 8200 RPM
143.7 hp @ 8400 RPM
I rode with an almost new (516 miles on odometer) 08 xp 146 yesterday..we drag raced on flat ground, uphill,in a foot of powder and on hardpacked...didnt matter from a roll or sitting still, the pro dusted the 08 everytime..bone stock sled to bone stock sled.. and the 08 xp's if I remember right were rated at 151 hp..so once more that 153 hp pro number looks pretty acurate..

if you are going to have a fair comparison you have to use facts, not second hand or persevered information

I dont care what you THINK it weighed or how much HP you THINK it has

just the facts or your just wasting bandwidth

so dynotechs cold air dyno is BS?
poo guys just pick out a number and go with it?
no, I am saying any dyno test out there is easily scewed + or _ as the operator sees fit........but better then any dyno out there is the real world results(the ones you dont see either because you are so close minded or because you never ride)and that has been reiterated time and again since the poo demo rides last year by rider after rider(from all brands) the pro is the best stock mountain sled out there for 2011 models. this poll says volumes of what the general mnt riding public thinks of the current sleds......http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=259470

that poll means nothing unless you verified each persons vote personally

I bet half those that voted never buy new sleds

polls are very easy to skew any way you want them to turn out

and that poll was started before the greatest mountain sled of all time was released:face-icon-small-ton

I voted in that poll and my choice was not even available when I voted

that could well be dave, but I think it is a far more honest way then snowmobilers " the xp dominates everything, nothing can compete" opinion...and based on the number of veiws vrs the actual votes, I would bet it is indicitive of true world results...I will say this with cat not doing demos on their new sled, it is going to be hard to make many real world comparisons till next year when the sleds hit consumers hands and we get good snow....so many get wrapped up in lightest this, most dyno power, coolest looks, and all the specs in the world cant qualify the intagibles, things like felt weight, parasitic power loss, balance, feel, I assume you will be on a new cat next season? would enjoy hearing a good reveiw....they look promising, but with no test ride I wont be on one next year, was interested in trying one, and adding one to the stable, but might just have to order another poo, didnt care for the 11 etec(although its a great sled, i still dont care for the feel of them when compared to the pro and the m-8s)....

an honest fact from me, if Cat had made a XP copy I would have bought a Poo when I was ready to replace my 2011 M8, I think I would have rode the M8 another year but eventually I would have got a Poo, now that the Cat is out of the bag so to speak, I am snow checking a Proclimb M800 gonna give it a try, the M8 engine is so strong and so reliable I have to stick with that

Bret told me I will love it and he knows how I ride, good enough for me, I think the demo ride thing is over rated, only a few get to ride them and usually on spring hero snow, I have bought 10 new sleds, never had a demo ride, go ask a motorcycle shop for a test ride on a new 12'000 motorcycle and see what they say, I have bought many new motorcycles with out a test ride, just how it is

well yes and no on the demo rides, I was headed away from poo just because of the dragons(yes i had one...and all things considered 2 scuffed pistons in 4 seasons isnt bad, but I figured the pro would be the same...dealer got me a ride on a demp pro last season and thats all it took (the feel/runability of the motors gave me the confidence to buy another poo and I am glad I did now...the sled is as good as everyone says it is right out of the crate)...I hope the new cats are just as impressive(the new doos that are coming as well) , since that is what keeps all the manufacturers building us better and better sleds...who knows, in another couple of years we may actually see a sub 400 pd, 175 hp bone stock sled from a manufacturer......we can always hope anyways.....(I am just hoping for one that will get itself unstuck..maybe 1 air-ram mounted right at the frt of the track that when you get stuck just hit the button and ..boom..sled rises 3 ft, straight up and spins 180 and sits back down ready to go back the way you came...oh and only adds 2 pds to the weight of the sled), good luck with the new sled...and looking forward to a good reveiw on it next season....

you will have to admit Poo had to be very aggressive to keep customers, I had lots of die hard Poo guys wanting to try my M8, I know 6 or 8 Poo guys who were really in a bind because they didn't trust there sled and couldn't see them self's buying anything else, so those demo rides were almost mandatory for Poo, Cat is not in that situation, the M8 sells it self

If AC produced a boat anchor with 16 inch spindles and brett told you it was the best sled ever people would buy it because brett is a great rider but he also gets paid to sell sleds. And that is already being made known because people are snow checking without demo rides sounds to me like AC is still not convinced themselves.

What the hell is that huge thing on the side of there "new" chaincase???

"Push Button reverse" solenoid to activate the reverse planetary gear inside the chain-case

The demo rides absolutely worked! The pro was the best selling mountain sled last year. I am willing to bet that it will be again. My dealer has more sleds snow checked right now than they did last year at this time (50+). They knew they had a great sled, and they went out there and proved it. You are simply color blind if you think a demo program with cat isn't needed. If they were so confident in this new sled, they would be out there screaming it from the roof tops. That's just good business, and at the end of the day i'll bet that the big wigs at any of the manufacturers care more about bottom line than the high mark.

Dynoports dyno was in the 150s hp range on a stock pro. I dont care if the Pro has 10hp, as long as it is still smoking the xp's and M8's like it did on our last trip out west it doesnt really matter what the hp # is.

Is it just me...or does the new M8 look weird from the front???

Those A-arms and spindles just jump out and punch you in the eyes. They look incredibly vulnerable to me.

May take some getting used to i guess, but at first glance...i thought YIKES...not good!

Has anyone seen dynotechs sheets on 2011 model 800 Cats? They aren't 163 on the 2011's...155.9hp on a zero mile 2011 800 Crossfire.

I said the same thing. Here's the funny part. Even in the AC brochures, it states that the HP numbers is coming from DynoTech. They probably do that so they are not responsible for the HP number. But it is a cop out, because if DynoTech said it was 140hp, they wouldn't post it. Independent testing...only endorsed if it favors your product.

i could care less about hp, honestly.

if the cat doesn't work/ride/feel better than the pro...its not worth my time.

but, thats whats more important to me than 5 or 10 hp...
alot of people could care less how the sled/chassis/engine/clutching works.
if the manuf. says its 200hp, its clearly the better sled...right...

however, i still want the proride to work.
