Weight as you ride VS Dry weight? Pro compared Proclimb/Summit

Uh, do you really think that test was fair? Just because they show them topping off the tanks do you think that happened before they weighed them? Do you think that they ran this test only once? Or that they didn't bounce that Cat just a bit on the way to the tree? C'mon. :face-icon-small-dis

What this video does point out is that anything you can do to keep snow from sticking is probably a good thing.
 
I don't doubt the Pro holds the most snow, that's what we see....snow loves that bare aluminum and gaps in the front! BUT, that's easy to cure with a wrap or coatings.
I don't doubt the weights, here in Wa I wouldn't be surprised if our "Cascade concrete" weighs more than that in the rear skid alone, it gets packed solid....we go to BC and their snow is MUCH lighter, doesnt cling to everything and easier to get around in....fluffy girly snow :face-icon-small-win.
Maybe the guys on those sleds did what they could to ensure the competition got more snow on their sleds and the Cat a little less??...that's just human nature.
 
Ok, so I probably missed it, but post #50 shows a screen shot from the video showing the dry weight and the field weight with the snow buildup. What are the wet weights before the snow buildup? The weight with gas, oil, coolant etc.? Shouldn’t the weight of these fluids be subtracted from the weight of the snow buildup?

The weights shown in the graph are wet weight no snow buildup,and wet weight with snow build up.

There's no dry weights in that graph.
 
you know what really bummed me out the most is the guy riding the pro couldn't ride at all :face-icon-small-dis

I noticed the same thing, the turd on the Pro could not ride or was just a little bias. Also the first sled they weigh is the Pro :p

It's because it is an Arctic Cat promo! They want the best to look the worst. I ride with a new Cat and new Pro's, I'll try and at least get some good honest pictures or maybe a good video of the sleds playing in powder. Like I said earlier, we check the difference all the time and there is not a whole bunch of difference. We haven't weighed them afterwards, but as mentioned earlier, it takes a bunch of snow and ice to make the difference the video is claiming.
 
I know the Cats are really nice machines, but there marketing people need to get grip.

Thanks for the link (and validating that I wasn't smokin' wacky tobacky). Good to know that the guy I talked to from AC was right after all (at least about results of their test at their western testing facility in Island Park). 417 dry and 516 wet weight for the PRO. WOW!! I am hoping that Snowest picks up on some of this when they do their 800 shootout..

I totally agree with what has been said about the amount of water, using math and a dose of common sense/logic. Sure doesn't seem like that much water weight would really be on any of the 3. Also, if the Doo is all powder coated and that is suppose to help so much out back in the skid, why don't we see much of a result?

I do not see 10 gallons of ice on my 2013 Pro? (ice weights less than water air bubbles trapped inside)
The build up on mine is by the rear suspension brackets and the center of the rear tunnel. This should go away since a tunnel wrap has been installed.
My 08 xp had a lot of ice on the outside/inside of the tunnel and in the running boards until Air Frame install. Cooler ran down the center.

A real gallon (Imperial) does weigh about 10 pounds.
 
cat forgot to throw in the four extra belts cat riders have to carry with them each ride,trust me I know first hand,these guys should be spending their time fixing their clutching problems and not weighing sleds from trees.my 13 pro puts a smile on my face everytime I ride it:face-icon-small-hapawsome sled

Dabull, thanks for the update on the AC clutch belt issue, I am sure as many or more are unhappy with the new 13 pro rmk quick drive belt and drive shaft failures besides cracked or broken carbon fiber upper frame parts or wrinkled tunnels about 50 % of the time when bending or breaking the lower control arms?

I also understand the belt issues with the cats are resolved with resurfacing the secondary clutch or replacing it with the team tied. When Polaris resolves all of the failures of this years sled please keep us posted. I know over a dozen guys with 13 Pro RMK failures which are all defect related.

Oh by the way since you help get me off track what did the AC belt issues have to do with snow weight again? I think that was the sole purpose of this thread!

Or about 2" of ice 17" wide and 50" long, which is roughly like your tunnel Not that hard for me to see that amount of ice clinging to inside the tunnel, on the boards, chunks stuck up up in the front suspension and a block sitting up near the voids in the nose.

Its all weight and cat, doo or poo who likes riding with that cr*p hanging all over anyways. I can pound a few more cheeseburgers down too then and not feel as bad.

Also, ice has a lower density than liquid water because it expands as it solidifies. Bubbles help but ice is less dense even without bubbles.

And just for fun facts, the planet as we know it wouldn't exist if ice was the same or higher density than liquid water. Fresh water lakes, for instance, would freeze solid and might never thaw out.

lol,not commenting on others experiences with both products only mine,250 miles on a proclimb five belts new tcl ,different weights blaa,blaa the list goes on,300 miles on 13 pro zero issues just pull the rope and smile.if you don't like what you read on the Polaris forum stay over on the cat forum.:face-icon-small-hapi

Now I guess when you put it in those terms (2"x17"x50") weighing 63lbs...it makes it seem a tad more logical. Problem I have is that 2" thick. That just doesn't seem possible on a tunnel (any of the 3, or Yamaha for that matter). Scales don't lie though, and as A.C. demonstrated, huge weight gain on them all with Polaris being the highest of the 3. I know I will be testing a few different "remedies" this year to see if I can see less ice/snow build up, which would make a HUGE difference on the PRO (or ProClimb/Summit for that matter).

I thought the test looked pretty legit, now I will spend some time kicking ice off. I have the polaris burandt bag and I originally didn't like how big it was, but I have almost no ice build up on the tunnel!!
