Venting....plows and why we pay taxes

dang I love to hear that, I for one agree, we need to raise our license fee's and charge the out of staters, WSSA is trying to get the fee increase, it's an act of congress to do that. Those dummies down in Olympia want to know why we want to raise our fee's, They dont get it. We might be doing a state snowmobile survey asking the riders of the state if they want a fee increase, Hopefully most of the inteligent sledders with say yes if the understand the system. Just my opinion I might add.

Dan, the WSSA did this survey several years ago at the Puyallup sno-snow....I want to say it was around 1997-98??? I thought the outcome was a voluntary increase in out license fees with the additional funds dedicated to grooming? It was only a few $'s, but I'm almost certain the increase did happen. I would be happy to pay more IF the politicians can keep their greedy mitts off the $$ and not put it in some "general" or "emergency" fund and we get nothing. I think $100/sled/year is reasonable.....heck, I would have paid that to have not had to dig out last weekend! :beer;:)

It's funny (not really) but whether I ride BC, Idaho or MT ... I have to take a trip down to the local store and purchase a $30+ grooming fee. I'd much rather spend my money on other stuff but gladly (hmmm, that's debatable) pay the fee as I'm helping to keep access and help the local economy.

It just nuts to think we pay the about the same and visitors pay nothing. Strange to think politicians would jump at the chance to raise fees.

Just curious. I've read many folks complaining on this site about the "greenies" and "click clacks" parking like idiots at Gold Creek. So, how come more of you don't go to Price Creek where there are virtually no subarus? I know it isn't open yet, but when it is, it's normally pretty empty. It also has equal access to the same terrain IMO. In fact, you're more likely to get untracked roads on the way into the bowls. So, how come?

I always try Price first but it's get full early usually.

actually state parks did the last survey

Years ago state parks did the survey and thats when we got our fee's increased to what they are now. Now we need to do it again as everything has drasticaly gone up. I still cant figure out why people cant understand that OUR SLED REG MONEY DOES NOT GO INTO THE GENERAL FUND. It goes into the state parks winter rec motorized program. It's our money not the govenors, So if we get the lic fee increase it WILL go into our program. And yes the $ 35 we spend on lic fees is a joke, it's way to cheep for what we get. It needs to be a minimum of 50 bucks and thats a deal for what we get. Just my opinion from one who has been to just about every state parks funding meeting for 15 years. I've heard it all. Oh and one more thing, It's true when people get a ticket for no sled reg, snopark permit ect, we get nothing, we are better off having them go license the sled or get the correct permit that way WE get the money. Happy trails

But as soon as you involve the goverment it all goes south.

Relax..... I think UL's idea is this state has earned what it has gotten. I agree...the excuses get kind of tiring. Just 'cause he vented a bit doesn't imply that he hasn't done his part and continues to do so, with efforts to improve this sport.

On the other hand, maybe he's just a political junkie who partakes in couch potato activities...spending time stirring the pot...:p

Stir the pot or whatever. Going to the mountains you should expect the worst and be happy if you don't get it. Ya my Snopark permit is valid from November, but it does not say the roads will be flat, smooth and plowed. It's not even Thanksgiving yet. For gods sake.

OUR SLED REG MONEY DOES NOT GO INTO THE GENERAL FUND. It goes into the state parks winter rec motorized program.

That is true initially, but our complaint is that any unused funds (due to low snow year) do go into the general fund at the end of the winter. Why the funds are not allowed to accumulate for high snow years is beyond me.

Personally, I wish we could leave it as is and have the local clubs collect trail fees similarly to BC. Then you get funding from both the gubment and the users (which may be from out of state). If the gubment collects $100, I'm not entirely confident that $100 goes to grooming. It probably takes a few haircuts along the way. If the club collects $100, the groomer would get an extra $100!

Agreed completely but....

Someone would have to sit in a trailhead booth?

The honor system might work?

Wow...This is like Deja-vu all over again.
Didn't we have this exact same discussion last year?

Are you kidding me???? Yes I belong to wssa and donate. Yes I belong to SAWS and donate and Blue ribbon. I send my letters to my reps. I clean up in the spring, I vote My company Donates also I pay the extra for the parks on my tabs 4 sleds. I have done multiple surveys for the state and its gets worse every year.

The Answer is simple collect what you need to do the job---

A daily trail permit would solve this.
16 weeks of service cost this much==== this is what tabs cost this year
charge for the snow park permits

As far as my comments on Seattle They set the pace and represent the general mindset and the way the state opperates. Do you rember the Snow removal? Or the monorail or the Shut down of Alki and how much that cost the local shops.
The 14th ave Draw bridge
The Viaduct
The port getting jacked and moving to tacoma
Hand gun ban
The Sonics
The King Dome
My favorite----- the water bottle,Plastic bag and styrofoam bans. I
go back to my original comment we get what we deserve because we dont participate.

OH and thanks for the crappy rating;)

Getting involved, going to meetings and writing letters does nothing! Last year Dan posted e-mail addresses and I never even got a response, did anyone?? NO!! SOSDD!!! Yes, we need to give to the clubs, pay our fee's but nobody ripped the groomers themselves so chill Greenskeeper, we all appreciate your efforts and hard work. You do a great job.

The bottom line is the system is broke and we are always going to get F'd. Ultraloard is flat out right about the lack of anything EVER getting done around here. Washington is a joke and so are the sheeple voters.
