Valemount Conditions and Updates

Hello

For anyone in the area this weekend, there is an Avalanche Awareness Night on Friday Dec 19th at the local High School's Community Theatre. They will be showcasing "The Fine Line" a 16mm Avalanche Education Film. Lots of Free Swag and prizes for give aways and entry is free. Come on out !

Allan and Clemina Creek will be groomed throughout the weekend. We have not recieved any fresh snow to speak of minus a few cm's last night, so Chappell is still on hold. We are hoping and praying to have it ready for the Christmas holidays.

Happy Holidays and Pray for Snow !

A cozy -33 here this morning !

If your are in the area, dont forget to hit up the Avalanche Awareness Night at the local High School tonight at 7pm

The cold seems to be very wide spread, sounds like your colder than us in north central AB, was up there the weekend that Allen was stupid icy, the grooming has started since then but is there any new snow with it being this cold. Thinking maybe heading up first week of jan, keep us posted.

Well, its starting to warm up a bit around these parts. The weather man is calling for some snow for Friday, so Im keeping my fingers crossed as we need it badly.

We have not recieved fresh snow worth speaking of in over two weeks, although the cold weather has left us with some great trails.

From VALEMOUNT AND VARDA to all of you

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Play safe this holiday season

Hello Everyone, a busy holiday season, sorry about the slow reports

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, The Clemina and Allan Creek snowmobiling areas will be groomed throughout the Holiday week
( Nights of Dec 28-31), and throughout the following weekend.

Although close, Currently we do not have the lower elevation snow to groom the Chappell Creek or new Keyhole trails.

CAUTION: The Allan Creek snowmobile trail has a very thin base resulting in icy sections around some corners. Due to ice we may only be able to groom 7 out of 9km. Use caution on this trail and beginners are recommended to use the Clemina riding area

We have received some fresh snow and the riding is getting better although, we still have a fairly thin base so watch for open creeks, rocks and other obstacles that can ruin your day.

Allan had some good snow on Saturday with a fresh 6" in the parking lot in the morning. Just over a foot of fresh could be found in the Clemina Alpine yesterday with even better tree riding.

Fresh snow in the Forcast all week, YAHOO !

URGENT: Due to ice, we are unable to get the groomer up the Allan Creek trail this evening.

We are working on something for tomorrow to get it done for Wednesday, but no promisses yet.

See above post for other info

Very sorry for the inconvenience, especially this time of year, I will update tomorrow.

NOTE: if anyone is in the area and has a moment to help out tomorrow moring for about an hour +- at Allan Creek, pm me your #. I may need to remove a few snags on the old trail and need supervision with the saw work.

Valemount Grooming Update

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the ALLAN CREEK
snowmobile area will be groomed this evening. We are doing what we
can with the trail in this strange weather, please watch for ICY sections
around corners. Beginner riders should consider the Clemina Creek
area as an alternative.

over a foot of fresh in the Allan lot this morning.:D

Plows working over time tonight to get the lots cleared

Do you guys ride Valemount often? How is there area when its gets going 100%? I do a lot of snowmobile to snowboard. Like ride up and snowboard down, do you think this area could have some good options? Any photos you guys have?

Thankfully we have recieved good doses of fresh in the last couple of days

Snowing at night with nice clear skies in the day the last two days

Oasis yesterday had excellent snow 180cm, so still needs a base and another snowfall

Chappell today was a killer ride in, snow is good although still thin on the trail compared to other years, grooming soon to come. UNREAL snow in the alpine with very few riders. Only two of us on the lower lake. Ride in is roughly 1-1.5hrs, but worth it. 195cm, so still needs a base and another snowfall

Sorry my little digi camera is down and my wife wont let me use the shiney one

Allan Creek trail is vast improved over previous weeks, thanks to the new snow.

Good conditions, although I will still say that the base is thin.

Here are a few shots from the day

Finally, we are recieving the snow that Valemount is known for. We have had continued snowfall this week and it just keeps coming. Riders should look forward to exceptionally deep powder riding this weekend. Thanks to the new snowfall we are now on our normal grooming schedule and will be working on the Chappell Creek trail this thursday evening.

Currently a complete white out here in town with heavy accumulation ! I hope this keeps up for a week:D

Snow conditions are amazing in the entire area. Please use enjoy this fresh snow safely and stay off the big stuff for a good while

Trail into chappell is in excellent shape with over the hood snow everywhere !

Allan Creek is in great shape with excellent snow and lots of fresh to be had.

Clemina just as good if not better.

The user numbers have been down this weekend, so there is plenty of fresh kicking around.

I only have pictures of Chappell as I ended up with a terrible back injury yesterday that left me bed ridden and is sending me to emergency today(What a B-day) fresh snow and unable to ride:(

Large quarter size flakes have been falling in town all morning and it looks like its not stopping

Excellent deep snow riding, But PLAY SAFE

Another one?

Friday, January 16, 2009 08:32 PM

Valemount, B.C.- Another snowmobiler has been killed in an avalanche.

This afternoon, there was an avalanche in the Monashee Mountains about 25 km south of Valemount near Clemina Creek.RCMP officers and the BC Ambulance Service responded immediately. In addition, Robson Valley Search & Rescue were called to assist.

It is believed two snowmobilers in a group of seven were caught in the slide that occurred at approximately 1:00 PM. Both were dug out, however one was not breathing. Efforts to revive the victim were unsuccessful. Everyone in the group has been accounted for, and no other injuries are known. It is not known at this time whether the victim or other members in the group had proper safety equipment and training.

Name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of Next of Kin. The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate.

This brings to 14 the number of people to die in B.C. avalanches this winter.

Was this^^^ in the Clemina riding area??? Heading that way next weekend; gotta say all these slides are pretty concerning!
