Valemount Conditions and Updates

Well just got back from 3 days of riding. or should i say Busting our arses. Rode Chapel on thursday was easy to get in there was a couple of bad creeks but nothing major.
Then all day friday and half the day saterday broke trail into Oasis. What a friggin workout that was. But it was worth it when we finally got in. Looked to me like we were the first into the alpine at Chapel as well. There were tracks all the way to the top but then nothing. Lots of rocks sticking out in both areas but no wrecks. There is only about 2 to 21/2 feet of snow. What a gong show it was getting up throught the cut blocks and trees into Oasis talk about hard work.

Currently No Grooming due to low snow levels in the Valley

Caution !

The Allan Creek snowmobile trail is in an early season condition. Intermediate riders should only be accessing the area, due icy trail conditions.

We recommend riders stick to the Clemina or Chappell Creek snowmobile areas, although expect early season conditions in all areas.

If you must ride Allan Creek, please respect the warning and blockage at the new and old trail junction and use the old trail only to access the area. It is to preserve snow on the new trail and provide an accessible trail for all for the rest of the season. Due to the quick altitude gain it is mandatory we preserve the early season snow in order to access the area with a groomer.

This new snow over night will be a considerable help to our overall snow and trail condition and we hope to be providing you with a groomed trail as soon as possible.

Was at Allan Creek today. The trail is a ice cube with guys spinning out every where. One guy broke his wrist when the guy in front of him spun out and slid in to him. Looked more like curling stones then snowmobiles.

It was a very busy weekend this weekend and with minimal snow levels and everyone trying to scratch their first itch all at once.

We thank everyone for cooperating on the way up and using the old trail to Allan or taking newer riders to clemina. I know it was brutal, but what we were doing by saving the new trail will benefit everyone very soon and we thank you again for your cooperation This new falling snow is a blessing.

It is important to check places like this and other forums, your hotel, gas stations, or the VARDA web site to recieve important updates for the area. It is the best form of communication we have. Most businesses in town recieve a fax of important information to display when new info is needed to be passed along to visitors, if you do not see it displayed, ask for it.

5" has fallen in Valemount overnight and today, but I have no first had of what has amounted in the alpine as I was sitting on the trail all weekend. I will be going out in the snow tomorrow and will bring back some measurements and pictures

still not enough snow

I just got home this afternoon from Valemount, the snow is starting to add up slowly but its by no means great. Friday morning set out to ride allen, when we got there a fellow came back down the trail with his friends, he was hurt and bleeding from his head, others said the trail was brutally icy and that the switchbacks were really bad, others also had retuned from the trail and were loading up and heading to Climina, so we did the same. Heard later that some guys had to tie ropes to their machines to let them down through the pollished sections and we wanted to ride there but felt it just was'nt worth it. At climina it was socked in pretty good with fine snow falling pretty much all day just not really accumulating much. Saturday, ran into an old friend that wanted to ride at Blue river so thats where we went, we rode Parberry and there was more snow there than Climina but still lots of willows and open creeks to cross. All in all we had a good ride but also seen a few sleds busted up from rocks, stumps or logs in the creek crossings, everyone is anxious to get out and ride, but I would try and be patient and wait for some major snow fall before heading out again.

Just updating from home, I will be in the office tomorrow and answer all emails then.

Thankfully with the new snow this weekend, our grooming operations can start. The machines will be moved today, and the Clemina trail should be ready by Thursday morning, and Allan for Friday with Keyhole and Chappell soon to follow.

Once in full swing our schedule will be the same a last year

Allan and Clemina will be groomed on Wed, Fri, Sat and Sunday evenings

Chappell Creek will be Thursday nights to get it ready for the weekend

Keyhole should be wednesday nights, but it is still TBA

Keep in mind we still have lower snow levels than usual for this time of year and with heavy winds blowing what we have around, some spots are still very thin and rocks are still to be found (experience:()

It looks like the mountains are being hit again today, but the temperatures are very warm

trails

trails should be groomed for the weekend, varda sent me an email explaining why they were'nt groomed last weekend. By the time they realized there was enough snow to groom, it was to late to get organized. there wasn't enough on thursday then got enough by saturday. im sure trails will be pretty good for the rest of the season.

Its extremely cold here in Valemount. We woke up this morning to -31

Allan creek on Friday had great snow, up to 160cm was measured with a good trail in.

Clemina has an amazing trail in, although the upper bowls were hit heavily by wind and the snow is very thin in many places with rocks everywhere. Use extra caution in this area.

There is not enough lower valley snow at this point for the new keyhole trail, so for the time being the access is still from the old pullout and will be until we receive a good dose of snow

Callin for clear cold weather all week, so start that snow dance ASAP !
