Actually I would argue that millions of natives weren't killed just generations ago. There weren't that many left to kill. Thousands? Sure. The biggest decline in the population was mostly from disease in the 15, 16 and 17 hundreds. That would easily have done its work if the Europeans had peaceful intentions.
However, we really did kill millions of Africans just a few generations ago. While they may not have all died on "American soil" they were hunted by rival tribes and largely due to the income we offered to take them. It is also documented as product loss in numerous tallies charts and ledgers.
I have Armenian heritage. Millions of that Christian nation were massacred by the Turkish people before my family came here. This was ignored by America until recently (now that Turkey is attempting to join the UN) as part of the contracts to allow us to have airfields within Turkey. Those who mentioned it during the Bush administration were fired. My family were treated as subhuman as they were different and had slightly darker skin. Yet, they became doctors, dentists, etc etc. No handouts. The only help was when they arrived from THEIR OWN PEOPLE AND FAMILY. It was in that they learned the cost of succeeding.
So sorry. The continual handout thing is over. None of what happened is the fault of anyone alive today. It isn't directly the end result of any current individual either as each generation has had choices. Perhaps not easy, but there were choices and opportunities. History has already taken its course, and while it was written by the victors (always is), the only way to move on is to move on.
