Agent ORANGE sprayed on our food

The only reason health care costs are up is because we use insurance to pay for our medical care. prices would drop like a ton of bricks if each and everyone of us were responsible for paying our own bills. Life expectancy has increased dramatically in the last 50 years. I believe that is in large part on the development of GMO's. GMO's do way more good than harm. Weeds have developed resistance long before GMO's were introduced truly how species adapt to their surroundings. For people to think that sustainable ag could revert to organic farming without massive famine is irresponsible thinking at best.

"Already GMO-s are cultivated in significant parts of world food producing areas, including USA (especially), Brazil, Argentina, India and China. If the expansion of GMOs continues and this mechanim results in a significant loss of fertility it may lead to world famine in the long run.

You are aware that now days most "Family" farms setup a corporation or LLC simply for financial protection right???? They are still family farms.... Just now the Dad is the CEO...

Skooter,

You keep missing the fact that I don't buy Monsanto. I am not a rep, bitch, or promoter. I can continue to farm without them, and they are not forcing gmos down my throat.

They are not taking over the world, agent orange is Not being sprayed anywhere.

Good to hear. Stay strong. :hippie:

Exactly. Anybody who says it is safe should wash and drink the crap.

Do you know, chlorine is one of the most toxic chemicals to a human? Or life of any kind, period? Guess what? You consume it every day. Your wife uses it when she washes your undies. Its in your clothes, on your floors in your home...everywhere. A chemical that will kill you if you get a single whiff. Everywhere. But guess what, you dont die because its used in concentrations that your body can tolerate. Same as any herbacide or insecticide. Its not that hard to understand.

Bet you don't mix it in your coffee or bathe your kids in it. It can't be that safe. But we swim in chlorine we drink it. All the same stuff you said. But I shouldn't worry about it. If I could spray my bee hives with something that cured them of all ailments but killed crops I would probably say it didn't do any damage

Both sides of this argument are correct, to a certain extent.
It is impossible to say that the use of chemicals in our everyday lives is harmless. In fact I do not think any of us believe that.

However, we as society have chosen to put affordability & convenience over simplicity & purity.

We are willing to smoke/chew because cancer happens to other people.
We are willing to drink because liver failure happens to other people.
We are willing to neglect exercise because heart disease happens to other people.
We are willing to eat whatever is in the grocery store because the chance that it would adversely effect us is miniscule. We are willing to roll the dice.

So what happens if we farm w/o chemicals......
There is no argument that the cost of food goes up and therefore more people around the globe go hungry.
Ask little starvin' Marvin over in Crapholistan if he wants a burger made from beef raised on growth hormones. Of course he'd eat if. Hell, he'd eat it with Malathion Mayonaise without a 2nd thought!

What did we do before herbicides?
We eradicated undesirable vegetation through tillage.
No ill effects from pure simple tillage, right?
Oh wait, that burns twice as much fuel & that's no good.
It leave the soil vulnerable to the elements with no protection from wind & water erosion. Remember the 30's?

A very small number of the worlds population is saddled with the responsibility of feeding the entire world & to do so they must maximize the output potential of the available farmland.

If enough people demand organic food the market will reward those who produce it.
But if you think the general population will trade affordability for the warm fuzzy of organic you are only kidding yourself.

By the way, i have a petition id like you to sign to help ban diHydrogen monoxide. Would you sign that? Its a very abundant chemical compound, found in runnoff from farms and ranches, its found in lakes and streams, and even in the water table...whos gonna sign?

Sigh.

yea we better ban all of that stuff!!! LOL :face-icon-small-coo
