Thread Drift on Current Conditions threads

Ok, lets pretend my user name is blue, and I'll give MHO. I would like to be able to go to a conditions report, scroll to the last post and see what the current conditions are. Its all good if people want to have another thread to talk about riding at "insert riding area here" and post away. But its a pain to sort though the chatter to see what the conditions are. And You do have to sort cause the last post could be a "LOL" post responding to " i saw so and so getting dragged out". the last informative post could be two pages back. I personally don't see what the problem is having a sub-forum just for conditions. I think it would be nice to have the condition threads easily found and fast to read. But then again I'm just one guy and nobody like's me, I think I'll go eat some worms.

i dont think the thread drift people are referring to has anything to do with pics or stories about their rides.in fact that is why i read them.i actually enjoy reading the friendly banter as well,its entertaining,and you can kinda put a name with a face so to speak.i just think some people myself included dont want to read it everytime they want to skim strait to conditions...either way i know how to use the down arrow!i do however think you guys with all the super cool,top secret,ultra exclusive riding areas should have ur own "special" password protected area to post all ur crazy riding adventures!!!

Its not just the thread drifts, its also the recent threads that dont even come close to being Alaska related, like Anaheim, engine fitting questions, knee braces question, big bore kit question, snow tractor video, and links to idiots on youtube. These are all on my first page, pushing worthwhile threads to back pages. Its not hard to find them, but...... These dont belong in the Alaska section. Snowest has other places for that.

The threads I listed had nothing to do with Alaska so really would be better suited elsewhere. I dont disagree with you, local info, knowledge and interests should be posted in the Alaska section IF its Alaska related. Go back and read these threads then come back and tell me what they have to do with Alaska.

Thats rediculous, I dont want too go to a max thread and talk too who the hell knows from Utah ( we all know majority of em are pricks ) I wanna read about whats going on with the people in AK.

Ofcourse it does suck, in the winter, too have too scroll through lots of unimportant too me posts. But i have this level of maturity that just zips over posts that clearly arent about the conditions.

You obviously dont, so just leave it be. The thread isnt 5inches long down your screen and you cant see or read the oversized Lost LAke thread or pvill thread.

I will like too see less threads askin how riding conditions are when there is already 3 of them though guys. Were not perfect here

I think the forum was fine the way it was, with the exception of a few members that did a majority of the postwhoring.... if the mods could police the few that are constantly clogging up the conditions threads with side conversations or useless posts we could skip the sub forums.

My 2cents

I didn't have a problem with the way it was, but, perhaps the best way to please every one is to stick all the original threads back into general AK and keep those going. Then in the current conditions thread have a thread for each area that is dedicated to current conditions only, also the first post for each area should have a weather link. This way every one can update conditons, chat and post pictures just like normal in the on going thread, and the people that only want to see conditions can keep the Current Conditions threads up to date.

What ever you decide to do, I will be happy! It's been great to be able to visit with people, find new riding partners and friends, learn more about my sled, figure out where to ride next week etc etc... I promise that I will try not to steal any threads....

Honestly, this place has gone down hill in the last two years. Ive been on here since 02 and to be honest i find myself on here less and less. It was a great place to discuss riding and/or rides and conditions but now seems like a boyfriend convention with endless banter. The pm button is your friend people, i get a dozen a day and thats where i discuss the irrelevant stuff, many of you should too.

Shwee, thanks for at least trying to make this place somewhat user friendly again.

I suppose what I might have done first would be to simply make a post in a thread that might be considered "drifting" It could say something to the effect of "hey guys, lets keep this thread on subject." I also think this forum is already so sub-divided its getting retarded trying to find anything anymore. I do appreciate Shwees efforts to help improve the forums though, so thanks Shwee.

My second thought on all of this is that we need an "Upper Huffman" thread where all people do is post pics, discuss rides, etc, from places that you dont want anyone to know about. I would have fun trying to figure out where it was and what part of the area the pics came from. Not the place for the people easily butthurt though, so some bad could come out of it, but would be a fun thread and Ill bet it would get HUGE! Hey, it would also get noobs to see the upper huffman thread, then get all super excited and actually drive to upper huffman.....hahaha

Alaska forum is the place for Alaska people to post to talk to other people from Alaska. I don't care about all the topics that get posted...but then again I don't read them either. Shwee did the right thing by making a sub-forum for conditions. No we have somewhere to go that is uncluttered and has the information we all want and need.

Ladies, gentleman, sledders,
I think we could all agree that there would much much less thread drift, "oddball" posts, and posting in general if there were more snow to ride.

There's not alot to do outside right now, that coupled with the fact that many people here work away (slope etc.) for great periods of time, this forum allows peple to stay connecected with the sport, even if the weather does not cooperate.

And that may take the form of posts with snow related videos, good natured ribbing about the last ride (until the next ride) and posts that are not an exact textual copy of what the National Weather Service releases.

The free advice and/or reports on weather and riding conditions may come with some extra "packing" material (posts you don't want to read),thats the true "price" of free advice, just discard/ignore those and read what you wish.

I appreciate the great advise I'm getting here but I really am not wanting to make a decision for everyone after yesterday. I will start a poll thread and you guys can vote.

I'm not fond of the sub-forum but it seemed the best thing so the threads wouldn't get cluttered. I don't know about any of you, but I don't want to get home from work every day and spend hours deleting and moving posts because they don't belong on the conditions threads. Then after doing that, answering 20 PM's about why I moved or deleted someone's post.

What I would like to do is delete the sub-forum and have the conditions threads as stickies for conditions only. Pictures and discussions can be on another thread as needed in the main section or just put it back the way it was originally and we can all be adults and get over ourselves.

Nah dude, the noobs that dont know about it wouldnt even read this thread IMO. We talk about it in so many other threads it should have been blown out of the water long ago, but somehow, they just keep falling for it.
