Thoughts on the new 2014 YamaCat...

I wonder how the Viper is being received by the NON Mountain riding Yamaha Owners??

I kind of wondered this myself. Mind you I know nothing about the flat land riders, but having owned both an Apex and a Nytro I cant imagine why they would flock to a sled with the nytro motor being its far more under powered than an apex. To me if I was a trail/lake/bar hopper an apex with a few simple mods that has EPS would damn near be the ultimate sled for that style of riding.

I would be willing to bet that if anyone was able to go visit Mountain Performance Inc. down in Utah that they already have a working prototype Turbo or Supercharger for this sled....:face-icon-small-hap

And.

It would come as No Surprise to find out that Evolution Powersports already has their fingers into the Yamaha/Arctic Cat ECU that will be controlling it....:face-icon-small-hap

Why does yamaha always have to look to the aftermarket to get their sleds to perform!!!!!!!!!!! I want to go to the dealership and buy a sled that I can turn the key,and ride, is that so hard. Piggyback ecu this and turbo kit that....its all a fricken joke. Why would I be happy that MPI has a working prototype when it should come that way from the factory.

I think this is a SICK lookin sled!! The width of the windshield is a little wide for me...but I'm anxious to see what 15' brings. I don't see how they wouldn't release a mountain sled, now that they have Yamaha's financial backing...I think it'll be badass!

Progress is 2 people (companies) sharing good ideas and coming up with something great instead of 2 competing and not sharing and using each others failures to judge each other. Good chassis + Good engine = good sled
Sorry to say but our mountain segment is a small piece of the overall snowmobile pie although it is the most competitive. Ideas developed in the trail market are tested there before they hit the mountains. The Polaris was a 2010 Rush before it was a Pro, the M sled was a Firecat first for 2 yrs, the Proclimb was a race chassis for 4 yrs , the first Rev was a short track. No offence but it these guys listened to what we wanted without testing properly they would be out of business. Some ideas that hit the trail market never made the mountain segment. Thanks to real world failures in an easier environment. Would you want a new untested but ultracool sled built how you think it should be only to find yourself 3 ridges back looking for cell service and a helicopter. It happens but it would be worse without proper testing in the real world.

I know that plenty of people are disappointed in this sled, but personally, I am really excited.
I was cringing at the thought of a 16000 dollar sled with a bunch of fancy new technology that would still have to be nodded to work.

This sled will be affordable, easy to mod, and soooo simple to build a turbo kit for.
I have never spent any real time on a Cat chassis, but from what I'm told, they don't show their weight like a Nytro or Apex because of the chassis geometry.

The stock skids and tracks normally don't work for the mod guys anyway, so this sled will be a natural for some great upgrades.

I can't even imagine how busy we will be this fall doing these sleds up.

Put me down for one.:face-icon-small-hap

I have the same opinion. Proven chassis with proven motor!! Definately considering building one.

Yamafest

Anybody have any idea about Yamafest this year. Might be biggest turnout in years because of this sled. Like it or hate it you know you want to try it.

I think the trade off is 1. a quality manufacturing system 2. some engine technology and 3. HDPI direct injection from Yamaha in return for 1.North American manufacturing, 2. a leading edge chassis, and 3. an outlet for significant engine sales from ACat. Neither Cat nor Polaris are world-class engine builders.....Cat had a moment of clarity unlike Polaris when they kiboshed their KTM affiliation.

Because MPI will be manufacturing the OEM Turbos and Superchargers you will see coming from directly from Yamaha as a factory installed option on the 2015 sleds..

Christopher might just be right. I just got off the phone... 2015 is going to be a BIG year for the mountain segment for Yamaha. Sub 500 LB mountain sled with BIG factory HP and an old name making a comeback.

I like that they have to add the bit about Yamahas clutching in the video so people won't assume it's Cat crap. Hopefully they don't use Cats chaincase either.

The Chaincase in the 1100T seems to be more than strong enough.

200hp Mountain Max?

Thats a part of the word. But the word goes a bit deeper. How its making the power, and how the chassis is designed is a bit more intriguing. 12 months from now will be real telling as to how serious Yamaha is going to get going forward.
5 models to release in the next 5 years. 4 more to go.

Just my 2 cents. I love my 08 Nytro, yes it is heavy, yes it may not handle all that well compared to a Pro RMK BUT....I have not had to rebuild the engine, change the plugs, or do anything to this sled. I personally am excited to see the new Yamaha. We need to remember that the sled sales have looked pretty anemic the last few years and I was just hoping and praying that one of the four manufactures would not just pull the plug. There may have been hopes for a 450lb 200 plus horsepower sled but this may be a great start to something really good for the industry, time will tell. Besides that cat plastic looks much better blue!

Every year you wait hoping is a year you can't get back. You guys enjoy your wait. It just adds to the fact that yamaha is in last place.
