Thoughts on the new 2014 YamaCat...

2 Chains, Oh man that bad boy just screams light weight, Nothing that $20K won't fix.

Holy F@$k screwed over by the flat land market again. Nicely modded Nytro's just went up in value.

What makes you think yami is giving them there engines. Lol your speculating way too much they are probably gonna make them engines not give them all there technology but some. I don't think any good business would do that. It would be tutting here own throat

http://www.arcticinsider.com/Article/FACT-Arctic-Cat--Yamaha-Expand-Snowmobile-Relationship
Because that is what the press release from Cat said this morning. :face-icon-small-hap
Yamaha has also put $2000 rebates on their sleds....mountain sleds. And told their dealers to get rid of them. So if there are no Yamaha mountain sleds, old chassis or in the Cat chassis.....what does that leave the mountain guys except a Cat if they want a Yami engine. ???

What a sellout. This sled is gonna be loaded with cheap chinese parts that AC is using on their sleds. Crooked engine from the factory? Its anyones guess how many nuts and bolts the AC assembly line people drop in the bellypan while assembling the new yamaha. Pray that Yamaha is building the wiring harness too, doubt it though. This thing is gonna fall apart in 2000 miles just like every other AC and polaris. Well, at least we know the engine will still be good when the rest of the sled is garbage!!

As someone else stated, if i wanted an arctic cat i would have bought an arctic cat.

--observations from pics--

--Yamaha gets a triangulated stiffer chassis

--Engine is laid back and mass is more centralized -- maybe even better that the 1100T with the exhaust and turbo up front

--Front end may even feel lighter on snow than 1100T

--Suspension upgrades seem to be obvious

--HP potential of triple 4s turbo

--hopefully mtn sleds will have vertical steering option

--Even if it weighs a bit more than 1100T, I think with the triple 4s configuration, the chassis will be more balanced and maybe even easier to ride

Joke

This is a joke, Yamaha is out of the sled buisness in 2015, why would they stay all they have left now is their engine in a cat chassis. They will just sell the motors to arctic cat and focus elsewhere. I was hoping for a better chassis even if it was in collaberation with arctic cat, other than a diffrent 4 stroke motor it is the same chassis as last year. I guess I will keep my rear mount and see how many miles it can actually last.

Who's Thinking MOD

Heres an expensive but cool thought.
New 2014 Viper
MCX 300 sidemount turbo
CR 174 tunnel extension
174x3 x15 track
38 stance with exit shocks
Vert steering
C3 belt drive
SLP skis
Kmod rear skid
= yamaha that handles well or an Arctic Cat without belt issues

WEIGHT of rolling chassis?

So.
After months and months of intense speculation, today all the rumors were laid bare.

Yamaha and Arctic Cat are in bed with each other, just as suspected.

The "Spy Photos" of what looked like a new Arctic Cat with Yamaha graphics all over it, turned out to be just that. A new Cat with Yamaha Graphics.

While we all get over the shock and let-down of NOT seeing anything new for the mountain segment, no one has asked the most obvious question of all.

Will this new business relationship bring us a BETTER MOUNTAIN SLED in 2015?

I think everyone here pretty much agrees that the Nytro has outlived it's original design longevity and desperately needs to be updated in a MAJOR way.

A few weeks ago I got to participate as one of the test riders in the 2013 SnoWest Deep Powder Challenge, which does NOT include Yamaha 4-stroke Sleds (as the mag doesn't feel they are able to compete against any of the 800cc 2-strokes)

Having been given the opportunity to ride the new Polaris, Ski-Doo and Cat, I cast my vote for the Cat as the best all around sled. This was a REAL SURPRISE for me as I went in fully expecting the new Polaris Pro to win.

With that day's ride in mind, maybe, just maybe, this new union of Arctic Cat and Yamaha will result in a winning combination of ergonomics, dependability and power..:face-icon-small-hap

huge sell out Im sure its a nice sled for the flats yet again the mountain segment is left with a big I dont care. Snowest did not test the Nytro That was a big Mistake they should have so every one could see what a turd it is in stock form. We all know what the sled will do when you through 10 or 20g @ it.

As I looked at that it came to mind I have never seen that type of exhaust connection on a Yamaha sled. UNLESS.....it is a turbo mount. O2 sensor also? Anybody smell a bolt on turrbo kit?????????????

Funny thing I see with this sled. . . It is a cat with a yamaha motor and clutches. The engineering even looks arctic cat with very little yamaha engineering. The exhaust flange is a arctic cat flange that has been used on the 1100's.

I think there could be a possiblity for a midmount turbo. . . But I would bet money that you won't see that on the Yamaha version but in fact on the cat version in maybe a thundercat?

Personally I hope they are exploring the snow bike segment a bit more seriously. I feel sled design is driving all the sleds to a slimmer, more powerful design. I'd love to have a 800 cc super paddle "bike" that feels and rides like a motorcycle. Complete with a twist throttle instead of a thumb flipper. I always think of the Honda three wheelers when flipping the flapper and shifting all my weight when occasionally riding groomed trail.

Its called a snowhawk! And by the time you modded the viper into a mountain sled you are probally close to the price of a hawk :cheer2:

So where does this leave western Yamaha dealers? Short tracks DO NOT sell out here.

If AC has this motor longtracked and turboed for 2014 as they do the Suzuki this year, who is going to walk through the door at a Yamaha dealer-NO ONE!

I feel bad for the dealers who have been toeing the line and ordering Nytro MTX's year after year knowing they are a hard sell, and then Yamaha goes and pulls the rug out from under them and hands this to AC on a silver platter.

Think of all the flooring intrest paid by western dealers on holdover Nytro MTX's over the years!

This cat/Yami alliance reminds me of the 2003-2005 Kawi/ Suziki alliance in the 250f mx bike class from 04-05. Same bike diffeent colors.
That alliance worked out pretty good for suzuki and Kawasaki in the end.
The 04-05 Kawzuki and the SUZ 06 were crap but the money the manufacturers saved in those years allowed them to develope and build bikes supeior to the competition during thier next production runs 06 for kawi and 07 for SUZ. The alliance allowed them to catch up and surpass Yamama and honda as far as having a better out of the box mx bike.
This could play out the same way.
Imagine in three years Yamaha and Cat having the best out of the box mountain sleds available. Besting Polaris and Doo in the deep. Almost unthinkable! Meanwhile we will have to endure some crappy cheap built sleds.
2014 will be a good year to save your pennies for something better.

Anyone know the weight of the sled...dry or wet? How about pony power...any increase or still the same? Yamaha should be billboarding the weight savings if they are decreased!!! This has always been their biggest challenge!?

Yamaha, aka "maybe next year".
Hey just pretend it's 1998 and you have your long track.

This is outstanding - the best engines in the world coupled with the best chassis. We are excited!!

Get working on that turbo kit guys, WTA I/C would be nice. Try and get a proto and have one on the snow by April. I am sure MCExpress is on it as well. Cool factor of 10 in my book. 14 is going to be an interesting year. This might get me back on a 4S.
