Third BC slide....

just seen this covered on the cbc national. they said there was a heliski avy and they showed footage of the Turbo avy... go figure

Was that the good old CBC ???, It's sad to see one of canada's largest brodcasting companys spreading propaganda instead of just covering the news.

I had to laugh as I saw a little clip last week of some reporter standing on the top of a mountain somewhere all geared up to desend down the mountain "Reporting" on how safe it was. Like he is going to say any ill words as he is proably enjoying a free half week of heli-sking.

I can't find it either, but I'm 97.35% sure that we lost 19 sledders just last year up there.

It really sucks to keep hearing these stories.

oh, and it REALLLY sucks to see the way that heliskiers break the one rule that intelligent bc travelers live by. I've seen in videos, but just assumed that in real life they didn't actually do that.

Their were 21 Avalanche deaths in BC last year and 2 were skiers.

Their was 54 snowmobile deaths in the rest of Canada last year and 48 were alcohol related. Weird how those never come up.

Maybe I'm missing the point of the post, but do we REALLY want that kind of info coming up???

The fact that sledders are dying due to alcohol related issues really proves the point that the rest of the backcountry community keeps saying about how stupid we are.

So lets all just stick our heads in the sand. How many sports or hobbies dont include alcohol?

Back in 88 when I was working in the mountains got the chance to go heli skiing with Weigle in the Revy area and the avy training consisted of a 10 minute course of the working of the pieps and rescuing a transceiver under a foot of snow. We then got on the chopper and went out into the backcountry. First thing we did was go up on a glacier and skied some windslab. Waited at the bottom for pickup and watched the next group come down, and watched the guide scream into his radio in horror as the group of german tourists damn near skied into a crevasse. This guide said that those people where within feet of certain death and their guide didn't know where he was on the mountain. Scared the chit out of me that somebody that you put so much trust in would have that little knowledge. So for Weigle to sit there an bad mouth us sledders is such a load of crap to come out of his mouth. This is all about the money and nothing else! Sorry if I hijacked the thread just thought my personal experience might bring some of this into perspective.

Sorry too say none for me,I drive for a living, used to drive stock cars & found my divorces stopped when I quit, apparently I turn into instant ahole on alcohol.I have nothing against someone having a beer with lunch though.

Saw a news clip last night that mentioned something about the heli-sledding avy was caused by sledders. Anyone else see that? It was in passing and I didn't catch the whole thing.

The only point i was trying to make is that alcohol is often tied to many sports and hobbies and to try to act like it is not is a joke. I quit about 9 years ago and it seems i became the designated driver. I am all good with some wobbly pops as long as it doesnt put anyone in harms way.
