If we are gonna get another 2 feet here in Southern California ...

That should be 3 to 4 feet around Big Bear.

Can we ride the backside of Big Bear ?

Yes, thats the Sequoia Forest map. I have a hard copy in the backpack... *note the trail numbers are summer use, the routes and numbers change for the winter snowmobile program.

Why do they change the numbers for winter?

snowing like crazy out @ my pad in north LA county...ie, Green Valley.
started @ around 5:30 am, and it's actually dumping...ground it covered solid white and sticking good. lot's of socal bozo's off the road :)

I MAY be down for tomorrow...

Don, for the drive for you to Big Bear, I wouldn't even waste gas going over there to sled. That must be a good solid 3-3.5 hours drive for you...north is better. Big Bear is for lame non snow going city folk.

I just talked to Kernville NFS. Bob and Eric are MIA. Still getting the SNOKAT.

Was told by ranger operator Sherman road is open for snowmobiling.

Cherry Hill gate closed with snow on it.

My boss (wife) told me I get to ride SAt Sun Mon or Tuesday.

Which day are you guys going to Sherman?

Another storm may hit Tuesday Wednesday.

Warmest day suppose to be Sunday 56 in Kernville 30-41 at 5000 feet.

With the prolonging of this storm and low snow levels, tomorrow is going to be a mess on the roads..... if they're even open. 14, 15, 395 are closed and it's still snowing.

I've got family, Xmas stuff for this weekend while I have my son, So Monday looks to be a good day. Talked to Don earlier and I think he's in.... Can you get Monday off Tommy?

Still dumping here... 37" on the ground and light powder... It was awesome today just on the roads around town. I put on 18 miles just cruising around and had powder over the hood. Went down Lone Pine Canyon road at 3:30 this afternoon and it's closed and not plowed.... FUN!! Came across a couple of trucks stuck as people try this route when the main road is closed. They were stuck, so I gave them rides back into town. Gonna head back out there tomorrow, I'm sure there might be a few more stranded before the nights done.

James6000... ???? are you back in town??? if youre feeling a sick-day coming on, lets go ride tomorrow....

Thanks for the pictures...I see southern Cali, on the news. Lots of low snow too.
Mike, Is the Raccoon Salon, still open in Wrightwood?

Hey Bart,
Yep it's still open... full of bikers in summer and now come the snowboarders.

Storm has moved out... freeways still closed this morning... 37" from the 2 storms here at 6100'... snowlevel down out towards Barstow and over a foot in some parts of the High desert.... heck it even snowed in Vegas

Love this global warming!!!

I live near Malibu and it snowed last night cause all the mountains here have

a dusting at 1500 to 3500 feet.

checking in...

I was set to roll this morning and couldn't get out of town. All kinds of downed trees and car chaos everywhere. The non-snow goers barely left me a path to fit my truck through to make it my house. Took my phone line out too.

I'm not sure what I can swing but I'll try to make it Monday. I still may go up on Sunday if I can pull it off too.

edited to add snow report duh...14" Green Valley, CA (ne magic mtn)

Gonna leave very early AM tomorrow to go to GREENHORN instead of Sherman. Guess Green horn ride to Ponderosa thru the Giant Sequoia Forest with 3 feet of powder sounds good. Group of several SUGARLOAFERS going.

The riding is around 6000-7000 feet and 8 miles from Kernville verses 45 for Sherman.

Rode from Greenhorn to Johnsondale. At least a foot on the trails (in the sun) after many riders carving thru the turns. In the trees and north face at least 2 feet of loose California powder! Rode a couple meadows and found a few stumps and rocks.

Only one spot (out of 85 miles) ... south exposure open trail .... 30 yards with no snow. Never touched the earth again on the entire route.

Rode 85 miles round trip on trail 51 from Greenhorn to Thompson Camp

Rode from the Yurt to what we thought was some trail but was a group breaking trail and ended up stuck ..... took a while to get back to the trail. About 3 - 4 feet in the trees of soft powder.

Nice to meet many Sugarloafers on the trail.

Thank you Tim for recommending Greenhorn instead of Sherman !!!

Only 12 miles from Lake Isabella verses 50 for Sherman. Nice parking at Rancheria Road

Could see Sherman Pass road from Trail 51 and would say the road to the summit will be spotty since the temps yesterday was 40+ and the road is mostly unsheltered by trees and south facing.
