The South Half

Go figuire ... with all the people that suck in LA there is a high pressure system here for at least a week !!!

Mammoth Tuesday, December 02, 2008 10:18:15 AM

A STUBBORN POSITIVE PHASE PNA PATTERN APPEARS TO BE LOCKED IN FOR AN EXTENDED TIME AS THE LONG WAVE TROF IN THE EAST CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN AND DEEPEN. LITTLE RELIEF IN SIGHT FOR THE DRY PATTERN IN CALIFORNIA.

WITH THAT SAID, BACK DOOR COLD FRONTS AND CUT-OFF LOWS ARE POSSIBLE BRINGING SHOWERY PRECIPITATION. THESE SMALL STORMS CAN EFFECT THE EASTERN SIERRA AS THEY EITHER BACK IN FROM THE NORTHEAST OR ARE SQUEEZED SOUTH DOWN THE COAST. SOME WILL PICKUP MOISTURE OFF THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST...THEN GET KICKED INLAND VIA SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. WE CAN GET OUR PRECIP FROM THE WRAP AROUND CIRCULATION WITHIN THESE SYSTEMS. SOMETIMES IT IS QUITE SIGNIFICANT. IN THIS PATTERN, IT IS MUCH BETTER TO BE IN THE SOUTHERN SIERRA THAN NORTHERN SIERRA!

Ok boys..... we all got eyes on the upcoming systems.. looks good for some road riding and hopefully more if things really pan out..... we'll see

Starting next week I'm off work till Jan 5 :D Gonna look towards some mid-week riding so if anyone else is around or feeling "sick" let me know. Depends on how the storm shakes out as to what day... this weekend should tell alot

that's ok.... unload where the snow gets decent and not have to worry about them plowing as you're out riding.... can live without grooming, just need snow... more fun anyway, as the off-trail won't be much yet, stay to the trail, less land mines

It is snowing hard and sticking in Kernville. Temps are below freezing in Kernville.

Yeee Hawwww..... finally!!!! 4" here since midnight and snowing hard.. time for a road ride around the block after breakfast :D

Sherman tomorrow or Wednesday???????

I'll give the heads up tomorrow, if I can pull a mental health day :)

Alta Sierra claims 20", should be more up to top of Sherman Peak.
sweet.

Thinking about night boarding also this week, is the back way up there closed from Palmdale/138?

Right now Largo Vista Rd. from the 138 is open... Hwy 2, 138, and I-15 are closed... Plows are busy with heavy snow down at the Cajon Pass... things can change quickly though.. still dumping here at 6100' with 13" on the ground.
Give me a shout anytime, especially if you get up to Mtn High.. I'm just 5 miles down the road.. the beers are cold:beer;

Just talked to NFS Kernville and a couple residents near Sherman Road entrance. Gate to Sherman maybe closed ( as stated by two residents who drove by it yesterday).

NFS Bob and Eric gone to get SNOKAT from State of Calif facility ... wherever that is located.

Local NFS operator office has no info because KERNVILLE HAS AT LEAST 12 INCHES.

Troy meadow had a foot snow on Sturday 13 December from Tulare county sheriff deputy patrol. (That is before this storm)

They got power this morning and Lake Isabella has about 4 inches of snow.

The NFS station said they expect it to be colder tonight with more snow to 800 FEET!!!

The road is open to Johnsondale BUT chains are required and the Sheriff's and Highway Patrol are enforcing chains. They are only plowing twice a day from Kernville to Johnsondale.

Again the gate beginning at Sherman Road maybe closed because there is at least 12 inches of snow at Road Ends with a foot more of snow expected today.

Thanks Don for the update... looks like it won't be a good idea to try to get up there tomorrow, could be a mess. Talking more snow here tonight, so it could be messy trying to get out of town early AM..
Sux I have to do Xmas stuff this weekend, but Monday looks good.... Who's up for some riding??????

Was wondering were you were at James.... few posts back is my cell number, give me a shout. When you coming back up the hill? Snow is great and more coming tonight!!! Take a little ride and tie in together :D
