The Get your FIX for the RMK 800

Thread Rating
5.00 star(s)
Just got off the the phone with Ted from Terra Racing. Pistons are an OEM cast variety, vs forged. They are not a Polaris piston. Port timing is change by the thickness of the shim. Kit c/w Billet head (compression ratio of your choice), gaskets, pistons, pins, bearings. Because they are using a high quality cast piston, this kit would address the worry that people have about the Wiseco's. $875 complete. Just another choice. Sending products to the states is straight forward using Canada Post. No taxes etc on the Canada side of the border. Just passing on info for everybody.

German, How is it a oem piston if it is not a Polaris piston? I think you are trying to say it is another manufacturers oem piston? If this is the case then which manufacturers? And which make, model, etc. And what needs to be done to the jug/cylinder?

I am also confused and concerned about how the port timing is changed with this kit?It looks like a copy cat of the fix with the shim? Yes I realize they have other "oem" style pistons and a cylinder head option but we have not seen or heard any other detailed information from the manufacturer or one
ride report or Dyno post to date since there have been two posts about the kit. I think having a head option is nice but why not just sell the pistons and shim with the longer head bolts instead of charging another $300 more then the mtntk kit.

Harry, I think I asked you this before but can't remember, is the SLP head worth installing?

I would not install the slp head or port the cylinder again, unless you like tuning.

I would like to just run the stoutner 162 map from dynotech that is proven to be a winner already.

So what I've done with my map for the ported cyl & head Is take the 162 DTR map and add 6 to all non zero values. I think it's way to fat, I've fouled a few plugs. So hopefully with the auto tune I'll get it as Close as possible.

I have had my sled deto 3 times on the trail, when I'm holding the throttle constant letting auto tune do it's thing. It happens right around 6,000-7,000.

PMS, I have an '08 with the update and the stock burndown, do you recommend having the case machined and the 2010 cylinder installed with your kit? I want to keep this sled for at least a couple more years and possibly as a back-up sled so reliability is high on my list of requirements.

Thanks

TTT keep this going with updates on how well this works.

How many of you guys checked your squish after the install? I bolted mine up with a updated head that was shaved by Carl's .020. My squish ended up at .050 :face-icon-small-sho. I pulled that head and put on my standard pre-update head and it still measured .055 the minimum recommended my MTK. What are you guys seeing?

I used .062 solder

Any idea how much tighter the PMS Wisecos are in comparison to the updated Poo pistons?

Again this is a MTNTK "Mountain Tek" "THE FIX" not a pms kit we distribute the kit but we love the praise! Thanks, just trying to keep it clear no harm done!

When installing the MTNTK "Mountain Tek" "THE FIX" the Piston to cylinder clearance should be not less than .004

I was referring to the difference in squish....How much tighter generally?

They said earlier that the kit increases compression "slightly". If you have an aftermarket head you should check squish. I think someone checked on Carl's head and it was fine.

I did not think that passing on some information on a another Kit that came across my desk would be so offensive to a few people. I was not aware that there was a monopoly on trying to fix the D8 engine issues. Anybody interested in products that claim to fix/address D8 engine issues should be, at least, going directly to the seller/manufacturer for more info, which I did for both. I still need to know more about both and will doing that. Good luck to all in their efforts to make their D8's as trouble free running as possible.

Monopoly???

More like entrepreneurship at it's finest....

Rexburg Motorsports is also offering a fix w/ a 500 mile warranty.... it's about 1600 bucks

500 mile warranty, eh?

Harry, have you thought about getting rid of the SLP map in your ECM and going back to a stock map so you can run the PCV? I would think Carls would be able to do this? No?

My sled is to blubbery and doesn't like the stoutner 162 maps. And rinks the fuel as well.

German, Sorry if my post offended you and we are all open to learning more about someone elses kit! We all want options and choices besides being informed since knowledge is power. In this case power and feed back help all of my brothers and sisters herenon this forum!

Have you used this kit? If so I would like to know what kind of results you
have had? I started this thread to share this kind of information by comparing everyones experience with the mtntk kit that I performed my own little research project, purchased & brought my sled to Ashton, ID from Minnesota and paid the experts to have itnproperly installed. I have since been very satisfied and pleased with the finished product and spent some more time and money having the sled tested on the dyno as I have posted and shared in this thread.

So once again please get us some feed back regarding this product if we are going to compare it to the fix? I have also noticed the seller or manufacturer has not offered any additional info? I can't speak for everyone else but I want to see proven results and some ride reports. Please bring something to the table for us to compare! I am pretty sure this post has helped other 800 owners and it sounds like PMS has not been able to keep up with the extra demand since there kit has been tested, proven and reviewed by many forum
members besides myself and now have nothing but good things to report about this product.

R44, I've been in contact with Ted about his kit. He is a small performance shop in Kelowna and doesn't really get on the internet all that often. He has been around for a long time and has built some really quality stuff over the years. I have gotten quite a bit of info from him about his kit and had planned on starting a thread, but have been leary as everything lately on this site has turned into a rediculous bash fest. For whatever reason????

Not to change the subject on you guys but, had my sled out for a couple days of riding. I have a little over 500 miles on it since I put the kit in. It still runs strong, idles good, and it pulls better than it ever has. It will be out for another 3 days next week, I'll update after we get back home.

Good luck with that one!

500 miles is about what you get out of the stock OEM's is it not! $3.20 a mile not bad!
2500 miles is what MTNTK has Tested on the "THE FIX" about .23 cents a mile
not bad!

As for the Monopoly quote above, Its not that people mind different products it that they are saying start your own thread about your own product. This thread is dedicated to the "THE FIX" kit by MTNTK that is all people were saying.
Not a big deal! I don't care that much.

for the quote above that on the squish I will have MTNTK answer that one for you.

R44, I have no problems/issues with any of the SnoWesters. Like you, I was just passing on some info for consideration if interested, nothing more. DiamondDave, I could not agree with you more about the bash stuff. Reminds me of the BetterBoard threads a while back. I use BB's and love them, but there are other options that I am sure work better than OEM stuff. PMSPolaris, talked to your guys personally and would like to thank you for your professionalism and care towards your customers, even for just an info phone call. I like everybody else just want to have a long life, reliable running engine. Not like my 08 D8, POS nightmare. The more options that people have to consider is good, I think? Safe sledding to all.

Anyone on how much tighter the squish is with "the fix" compared to stock? I realize that compression is raised slightly, but I am looking for numbers on the squish area. Thanks.

If your sled had low miles and no sign of piston and cylinder wear would you put the fix kit in or would you update to the 10 cylinders and than install the fix?.I am thinking of moving up to a 800 and found a 09 with low miles.
Has anyone tried the bmp pipe in the mnts?
Or do I just turbo my 700 and install a 163 track and give the pro another yr.
Feel free to comment .

i put the kit on my 09. when i was aking MTNTK about what flash to run on my sled they told me it didnt matter as long as i had the corresponding head that went with it. so with that i didnt change anything on my sled and didnt update the cylinders, though my cylinders did go to the chromers to fix all the scratches. you'll be fine using the 09, just make sure the inside is clean of scratches and gets honed before you put it back together.

on that note, a turbo 7 would be lighter and be a pretty fun ride. i've never touched or seen a sled with a turbo so i'm not sure what additional maintenance that comes with one, but i know if you turbo'd ur 7 you wouldnt ever have to worry about the inherent problems of the 8.
