Went up Tampico today to check out the snow. found a trace of snow on the truck this morning.

There was some good snow up there. it was light, dry fluffy powder, and didn't snowball!

where we turned around and headed back down there was a foot of fresh!

Winter's here!:D

Thanks for sharring, the Rabbit and I went up sunday and put on aboot 29 miles:). The snow was good and dry and cold. Good start for sure.Cheers Red Dog.

i went up sunday and drove my toyota up middle fork all the way to cloverflats in two wheel drive with out locking the rear diff. I had to use four wheel drive to go past cloverflats. i drove past the little bowl on the west ridge and i could go pretty much anywhere i wanted to. There is not enough snow for a good ride yet and no base what so ever. All though there were alot of snowmobiles up there. I watched an 02? polaris rmk get winched up the big bowl by a yellow landcruiser. I guess he wasnt jetted right or somthing. There definatly was not enough snow to be climbing hills. Some people unloaded there sleds at the snowpark and road on the two inches of snow up to treephones.

Welcome back SummitRMK. Haven't seen you on here for a while, was starting to wonder if you were gonna ride this year.
Thanks for the report. Sounds like there is alot more today with more on the way. Might be up for a weekend break-in ride.

yea Snowdawg,it's perfect condition to break a new ride in, you can vary you throttle and still get suffecient cooling. It's defently road ride. More snow on the way.Cheers Red Dog.

Ahtanum Snow depth

The snow park probably had about 8-10" this morning; very light fluffy powder. Probably hard to avoid rocks from the snow park.

I came home last night on Snoqualimie pass. Left Seatac area at 3pm, got home at 11:30pm. Long *** drive, not to bad once I got past the urban stupid people outside of Issaquah. At least 1.5-2' of new snow on top of the pass, and windy as hell.

The snow depth gauge at Green Lake is showing 16", down from 18". This snow will pack down quite a bit. If we would have had a base, today would have been awesome!:face-icon-small-hap

Hoping for more snow this Thursday night over the weekend. Anything big happens I will post it.

Longer term forecasts look good, no major warm-ups or dry spells.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!!!

11/27/10

We received about only about 1.5" of new the last couple of days at the sno-park level. The snow has settled to around 7-8". Forecast still looks good this week for more snow. Lots of rigs today. Only report I had was from Wednesday (11/24); still lots of nuggets out there, most areas even up high aren't real well covered yet for ample boondocking.

Hope to make my first ride next weekend.

Groomer meeting this Wednesday; I will post updates after this meeting. Probably will be a few questions concerning the early snow and grooming and plowing. I am still under the impression that grooming can not start in the Ahtanum earlier than 12/15. Sno-Park plowing may be under that same contract status.

Tampico Snow Update

At 1000 on 11/30/2010; moderate snow, approximately 3-4" of new snow, temp is about 20F. This should put the snowpark total at around 10"+.

The main North Fork road was plowed about 0945. These current conditions are from 2 miles below the snowpark.

The Green Lake snotel is indicating 5" of new snow to a 17" total, with an 0.4" increase in SWC.

I am home sick today (but still working, thank god for thumb drives). I will try to post more tonight as the storm nears its end.

Hoping for first ride this weekend.

Groomer meeting tomorrow night at 1900 at the Naches Ranger station, the main door on the back.

Tampico update; 11/30/10 #2

We currently have a snow depth of just under 10"; not much addition since this morning. The forecast has also backed off a bit on the strength of this Thursdays upcoming storm:face-icon-small-fro.

The good news is that Green Lake sno-tel has gained 3" and is now showing 20". The long term forecast has also backed off from any warmer temps (as it was showing yesterday). It kind of looks like we will be getting a lot of small snowfalls, not the season starting 2-3 footers that we normally get. Temps should get colder into the weekend.

Based on this, it looks like the weekend will be still kind of skimpy for any serious climbing or boondocking, unless you are in the A arm sales business. Beau and I hope to ride some roads this weekend. I don't believe the snopark will be plowed for another week or two, based on my interpretations of the contracts. I will update this after tomorrow nights meeting.

We area seriously sucking air on the fundraising also. I frankly haven't had the time I anticipated to hit up the people I need to. If you know of anybody who we can call, please give them my information.

A big thanks to those who are already helping.

Thanks,

Tampico

Has anyone been up in the last day or 2? I am trying to figure out if I want to ride Tampico (DNR which legally opened yesterday) or White Pass (Forest Service, not yet legal) after the sledding incident on Chinook pass with the sheriff's son a few days ago.

Is everything tore all to hell or is there some snow to be safely had up there right now?

Tampico snow report 12/2/10

We received no fresh snow since Tuesday. In addition, it is sunny above 2k feet, and slightly warmer than here in the valley. I have noticed melt in the snow near the sno-park area, plus some S facing lower slopes are baring up a little. But, the snow left has also formed a crust of sorts. It was near 30F at the workstation this afternoon. The crust should keep most sleds off of the gravel in the lower elevations.

Green Lake is in the high 20'sF with 18" of snow depth.

A week forward, sno-park highs 28-33, no chance of major snow until Tuesday.

I may wait another week to save on the A-arms, plus I still feel like crap. If you go, post it!

Saturday Afternoon - 26F and light snow, minimal accumulation.

Still feel like crap but am going tomorrow anyway; planning on riding the Jackass Road. Please be aware of the fire rings frozen into the main snopark, couple large rocks also. I will meet with the DNR and groomer/plower this Wednesday.

If you have any complaints as to grooming or plowing conditions, PM me so I can keep a log.

Snow park was pretty full, lots of sledders. Middle fork was fully covered and pretty smooth till treephones, after that it gets BUMPY!!! Not as much snow as we were hoping for, had to be pretty careful if you stepped off the trail.... my buddy hit a log, no damage to speak of though....

Hopefully we get more WET snow soon, what we do have if just flour powder so there is NO base off trail to speak of:(

Only took 3 pics and 1 vid, all in all it was kind-of a disappointing day... at least we got to ride the sleds and get out of town for the day. There were tracks in the Super bowl from some brave souls, we did not drop in.... went over to the little bowl and after I took 2 small pulls we left, still a lot of junk showing there too. WE NEED MORE SNOW!!:face-icon-small-fro

Was nice to meet Cascade snowjunkie in the afternoon when loading up and a couple other guys earlier in the day (don't recall their names):beer;

lol

a bad day sledding is still better than a good day at work...

the only bad ride is the one you missed

:pound:

Hopefully forest service land will be legally open to sledding next weekend as all hunting and Christmas tree gathering ends on Wed. Dec. 8th... I enjoy riding tampico when there is good snow, just seems like there wasn't much or we were looking in the wrong places today:face-icon-small-sad

The extra light sugary snow did really remind me of what it's like riding Revelstoke snow... so dry and fluffy.... if only we had a base now.

hey 94, we saw you guys in the little bowl today, we were the group of three summits sittin in the bottom when you dropped in. We came in from Rimrock side up blue slide....very thin and rocky over there too, need a couple of feet to make it decent, but still nice to get out and run the cobwebs out of the carbs...you ever want to ride up chinook pass area, give me a shout, know every inch of that country.

Oh, right on:beer; I can't believe you made it up Blue Slide this early, I would think it would still be impassible in these conditions:eek:

That second little climb I did in the little bowl I was dodging rocks left and right (probably looked like I was going crazy, lol) so we moved on pretty quick, didn't want to waste any parts this early on if we can help it, haha.

Ya, that would be cool sometime:face-icon-small-hap We usually don't ride chinook cause neither of us really know the area at all... it's been 2 seasons ago that we even went up there. Usually we ride White pass a lot during the core of the season and have a fair bit of fun there.

Ty, I guess I should have called you Friday night. We rode over and took a look down from the top towards the pond, very thin getting on top as you now know. Did you look at the jeep trail? Sometimes it's better when it's thin like that, the wind always blows the snow off those rocks when the snow is dry like this.
Looks like the snow we're expecting this week might have more moisture, ya!
