Ahtanum Grooming Update
Groomer is back up today cutting out some trees on the trail, specifically around Tree Phones. There are also numerous trees down on the North Fork side going down. Once I get information on how far up the trees are removed I will post it. A big shout out to our new groomer who drove up the road to get some grooming going. I am pretty sure the groomer and its trailer weigh a little more than a couple sleds, I appreciate the effort. The grooming style will be different than last year (err, past years - didn't see much last year
). With a better machine and dependency, we will see a better job on our groomed system.
The berms are UP (on the main loop), so if you see a wheeled vehicle past them, they are illegal. Get a license photo if you can safely. Unlike some USFS roads, on the DNR side the berms can't really go up until the system is groomable (enough snow); thus Red Saddle and Jackass are still open to all traffic. Once we get enough snow to put up a berm at the lower levels (snowpark area), then those roads will close to wheeled traffic. Side-by-Sides with 4 tracks are illegal on groomed trails, they must have a front ski to actually steer with (not just one tied on).
Was finally below freezing last night at my place near the snowpark; but still expected to be in the 40's during the day for at least the next 10 days
.
The groomer was unable to post to the Google Groups, for some reason it temporarily no longer exists. I will talk to the groomer and see what is going on.
AND now, for some really ****ty news
- due to my work schedule I will be very limited in my riding this season
. If you do ride the Ahtanum, feel free to email me at
devin@greenacrefarms.com to keep me apprised of anything I may be missing; I can then post to here, google groups (?) and the groomer. Keep it simple and don't overload my email with other stuff.
AND for even more bad news, as of 12/31/13, snowmobile registrations were down by 9,000 sleds - that is near 30+%! I know the snow is bad and the old "why pay for it if I can't use" speech is somewhat viable -
BUT, this years registrations pay for next years grooming! With the continual decrease in available funds, we must keep our numbers up to ensure our grooming. Especially next year when we will probably have 150+% of a snow year (you just know it has to happen
)!
Have a great day - I hope February is better!,
