Tampico/Ahtanum snow report 2011/2012 part:three

Groooming was good up to eaglsnest. Didn't see the trail again till we got back down to tree phones from the back side and it was still good at 6pm it was warm up there today, above freezing. It was colder below the tampico store 30 deg. Vs 36 at the snowpark. The snow got pretty heavy today but still a lot of fun.

You should have been there yesterday. Dry fluffy snow with a thin crust on top and beautiful blue skies. We could see Hood to the south and Baker to the North. 75 miles of pure bliss!

North Fork was rough past Dark Horse Flats; most of the area was fairly torn up. Watch out for trees down on North Fork. Big thanks to Brian S? for helping us get a tree (dangerous one) out of the road; dude pulled a sawzoll? out of his knapsack on his sled, awesome!

If you have complete grooming reports of different routes, please PM them to me.

Parking lots were all FULL; probably the most rigs I have ever seen up there.

Next grooming meeting 02/14 at the WV fire station at Zier Rd (just past WVHS).

Forgot to post this picture. Didn't notice this until I got home and looked at the pictures. Looks like RMK2112 has his "little sledding buddy" with him on his handlebars. (Look Closely)

Anyone been up since the 28th? We were at our cabin, Sunday it turned to rain...heard snow level was a 7000 ft. Now I'm hearing rumor that the snow level is rising even more by the weekend?

Quick update:
02/10/12 2100

Snowing lightly at the sno-park, 33F trace of new.
Green Lake is 33.4F, 58" snow, no new indicated recently, but a small increase in total precip.

Snopark temps have been warmer than normal during the day, some minor low level melting is occurring, but nothing to bad.

Forecast is for a little bit of snow over the weekend. Two week forecast is for near normal temps and precip, possibly cooling off some in a week or so.

I have been out a lot the last couple of weeks, so I have no recent grooming report; please feel free to post recent conditions.

Roads are mostly clear, will probably be icy in the morning.

Ditto what mach1man69 said; very little new snow to be found, was excellent traction. There were tracks everywhere (even my secret spots, secret no more:face-icon-small-sad...).

Grooming was OK around the loop, looks like ice underneath in the lower part of Middle Fork. Snow is thin down low compared to last year; we are running out of time for a season like the last couple. Sno-parks yesterday (Sunday) were barely half full. The upper Sno-Park is down to gravel (at least I didn't fall on my *** this time:face-icon-small-ton).

Had a trace of now last night near the sno-park, the Green Lake snotel has not reported any new snow for quite a while, I am thinking at least a couple of weeks. It is still showing around 59".

Forecast this week is el-same-o:face-icon-small-fro; mild and showery, no big dumps for this week.

Maybe if we all passed a hat we could get up enough money to bribe SnoDawg to head up to the pass and do that dance of his again. Sure worked last time!

Went up today and we were the only one there and the groomer was running.
no new even on top we have freezing rain up high but over all was a good day to go adventuring looking for new spots

Conditions report for today

First and Foremost - Be Careful... The new snow that has fallen (and yes, there's lots of it up high) is resting on a VERY SLICK CRUST LAYER about 14+ inches below the surface and WILL SLIDE!

I SET OFF A SMALL SLIDE TODAY ABOVE EAGLES NEST

This particular sluff wasn't big enough to hurt anyone, but if a SMALL hill such as this can slide, I would be very cautious of anything bigger with any steep angles.

Now to the rest...

There was about 3 inches in the new snow park (which was mostly melted this afternoon) and a little more in the old snow park... The middle fork and North fork are both low on snow and hard, but are for the moment fully covered all the way around. The Middle fork was reasonably smooth all the way up, the North fork was pretty choppy below the Snow Cabins campground. Up top there was about 18 inches of honest new if not a little more in spots. Keep in mind the crust underneath the fresh is SLICK and bumpy in spots... unusual for sure.

The wind was blowing probably 35-40 MPH on top with poor visibility making for near blizzard/white out conditions so we did not drop in the super bowl and after playing at a couple of our favorite climbs, we crossed over the top and down the roller coaster without delay to get out of the wind... it was COLD!!! We ran into Snodawg and Summ8rmk and had a great afternoon riding 'back to the truck':D:D

All in all a fun day, I'd love to go up again tomorrow, but we tore the heck out of it today!:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-hap

That was an awesome ride up there today other than fighting the goggles. Looks like the snow dance paid off but I still haven't seen any money. lol This ones on me. Ha Ha!
But next time I wanna see that hat full>>>>>>>

It was a good day with good friendds. I even got to see a pretty snow flake land on my throttle, it was a hallmark moment lol. It was a lot deeper than I expected and dry too. Beautiful fluff. We made fresh tracks every where today. I couldn't believe nobody rode the lower half of the roller coaster! We fixed that.middle for had good snow at treephones north fork snow was low below the hilton. I did prove to myself that if not careful with the throttle I can wheelie over backwards. Not a good thing! We r supossed to get another foot tonight. If it stays cold it should be extremely deep tomorrow.
