Tampico / Ahtanum Snow Report 2011-2012:Part 1

First. I am riding tomorrow, Monday (snodawg) maybe again next weekend if I get the tunnel/bulkhead fixed on my baby.

I was thinking 'bout going today and I'd be there in a heartbeat if we would have gotten more snow. Looks like we only got a couple of inches up there maybe a little more. I know there is more to come later today. Should be great by the end of the week. Still working on the sleds, I wanna get everything just right so i don't have to worry about it or think about "darn, I need to change the chaincase oil" Ha Ha.
I'll be ready to ride Thursday thru Monday.
Have fun today and don't hurt anything. Post a report.

Updated Darland forecast calls for a possible total of 25" by Wed starting this evening.

Today: A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 32. West wind between 7 and 10 mph.

Tonight: Snow. Low around 26. West wind between 11 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Tuesday: Snow. High near 35. West wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Tuesday Night: Snow. Low around 30. West wind between 13 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Wednesday: Snow. High near 39. Breezy, with a west wind around 24 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Its a start...

Monday 12/26/2011 0900 hrs

Sno-Park 28F , trace-.5" new snow, cloudy now, updated forecast for 3-5" tonight, then up to >1" of rain through Friday morning:face-icon-small-sad.
Green Lake 24.8F, 3" new snow, 24" snow, see snodawgs forecast for upper elevation forecasts, they are :face-icon-small-hap.

Main problem this week will be getting to the good stuff/parking:face-icon-small-con.

Beau and I are hoping for a short ride tomorrow; similar to snodawg I want to check out my mods and OH's. Usually I have more problems after I do my own repairs than before I started:face-icon-small-sho.

The ride was good. We got about 35 miles in. Lost a cylinder on my summit 2 miles up the road, so had to tow it back and my son rode with me on the rmk. Found some hills that haven't been touched and did some donuts on the hill about a foot of powder, hard to do riding double but still fun.

My snowglobe had a bigger storm than last night...

Tuesday 12/27/2011 0800 hrs

Sno-Park 28F , no new snow, cloudy now, new forecast for up to >1.5" of rain through Friday morning, snow levels above the passes.
Green Lake 32.4F, 1" new snow, 24" snow. Forecasts are still good for above 5k feet.

Extended forecasts are fairly moist, but not very cold.

Quick update, Tuesday PM

Sno-Park; moderate rain
Green Lake; 34.0F, is showing 1" new snow, but 0.2" total new precip since late afternoon-probably means wet snow or mixed with rain.
Tree Phones at 1500hrs was mixed snow and rain.

Rode from Tree Phones over the top today down to Snow (or lack of) Cabin. Only about 1-2" of new snow last night. Road from Whites Ridge up is icy (couple of rigs, including mine, ran into traffic and couldn't get going again-backing/sliding down a icy ride is no fun), but plowed wide. Be careful of 2-way traffic going up. Below beaver dam the road is bare.

Normal riding areas in the 4500-6000' elevation levels on the east side of Darland are surprisingly almost bare, especially on the south facing areas.

Forecast is same as posted earlier; problem will be great snow above-only how to get to it since it will be 2-3k above the snowparks.

can you park beyond the snow park to avoid riding in the dirt?

Yup! If u don't u will be riding about 4 miles of dirt! I believe middlefork is now open. So drive up till u can't go anyfurther. If u make it to treephones u should be good for snow.

Aslong as there is NOT a berm. U can legally drive a wheeled vehicle as far as u can make it go. Aslong as u stay on the greendot road.

I rode today, lets start by saying chains required beyond whites ridge or very shortly after. Solid ice on road with rain not a good combo!!!! The snow was so so up high, pretty heavy and wet, snowed all day from about two miles above treephones on up. Rained hard from treephones down. I would not advise riding until we get more snow, it is hard to get to the little bit of new snow we got up high. If the snow level drops and we get some good moisture come in we will be good. Also the avy danger is high, the heavy wet snow thats up there is sitting on ice and we had a couple small slides today.

It snowed at the snopark last night. "Tampico" is riding today. He should have a report this evening.

I bet tampico comes back with a good report, it showed 12" at greenlake last night. Hopefully there is enough snow down low to ride from the parking lot, if so it will be awsome. Like I mentioned above watch for avy's, it is going to be pretty bad. If a guy cannot park at the parking lot it will be a cluster f%@# trying to park tomorrow.

We should be able to park in the winter recreation lots.lol unless u ride a PRO a couple in. Of snow will keep ur sled cool. ;-)

At least my sled doesn't have a big ol crack in the tunnel that needs to be covered up by some aftermarket plate.

Csnowjunky....you gonna be up there tomorrow. We'll keep an eye out for ya. Haven't seen ya since our July ride but you were on 4 wheels. lol

The tunnel itself is not cracked. The 1/16in. Plate from the bulkhead to the tunnel is cracked. Now I'm gonna put octane booster in and woop ya!

Anyone know the conditions on the other side of superbowl, down in Klickatat or Conrad meadows?

Headed to the back side and Spencer point tomorrow.

NOAA said they should have about 18" of new and a partly sunny, cold day tomorrow.

Looking for any firsthand knowledge.

I will be up there snowdog, maybe we will see you there. That was crashcade you seen in july, but he will be there too. We ride together every weekend. Hey 2112 where are you guys unloading to go to spencer point? Rimrock or ahtanum
